    for those of you saying "too complicated, or would be easier in an RV." Think of it this way, many times in nomad life, part of the fun is bucking the system, not buying an RV but building one. As for complicated, sometimes using your ingenuity makes you feel like you defeated something or a system. Also the fun in being a nomad is passing time by doing these things. It may take time to set up a shower or a solar system to both vehicles, but passing time doing something vs watching TV or just withering away in a chair.

      Dave & Muppy RV & Vlog Channel, besides- everyone is different! What is overly complicated to one is actually simplified for other reasons to another. Randy’s problem-solving and ingenuity is inspiring! People are just so stuck in themselves :)

      A cargo trailer gives more efficient use of space & available weight value.

      The problem with Cargo Trailers is that they are so expensive compared to an older camper that might need a a little maintanance. 5 years ago I bought a 16' 1973 Shasta Camper for $40 at an Estate Auction. We live in Jacksonville beach and both have Show cars and travel 2-3 weekends to shows to Savanah, Pensacola, Daytona and Tampa, we even go to Miami a couple times a year, and we've been to Montgomery and New Orleans when were on vacation, go to a show and we'll just spend the week. The other reason people say "It's too complicated" is because they just go off the deep end and go all at once, We started slow, I took us 2 weeks to gut and rebuild, including tearing out and rebuilding the rear wall which is where we moved our door too btw and completely flipped the floor plan. We started out with just the bare minimum,, basically a bed a kitchette, including one of those small college dorm style refridgerator and a microwave and spending weekends at state parks while we were attending car shows and we have added on to what we need to live in it at longer periods of time. We now have one of those 9 function Air Fryers that does Air Frying, Convection oven, Broil, Bake, Toast, Dehydrate, Keep Warm, Rotisserie, One-Touch Fries, microwave and 3/4 refrigerator that I bought from an appliance wholesale warehouse for $100 because it had a scratch on the side because that small fridge just wasn't cutting it, on our week long trips we have to go to the store atleast 4 times in that 9 days. At the end of this years car show season were going to buy one of those solar set-ups at Harbor Freight with the money that we save from not going to hotels. We don't need nor want a bathroom because we stay at state parks and they always have bathroom and shower facilities. We are planning on living the Nomad life when we both retire in 3 and half years floating from state park to state park between Missouri where I'm from and New Mexico where my Gf is from. My point to this long winded comment is take it a step at a time and figure out what works best for you and your situation and don't just jump in with both feet.

    I really like the video with Randy and how he has made for himself two options for living. I am still stuck in a house trying to decide how I want to live once I sell it. I still have to work because I am only 62 and have some bills to pay off before I can move forward with the rest of my life.
    I appreciate your videos showing so many options to choose from. Thanks so much.

      @karend.cureton-gordon6731 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm new to the ideas but I see great possibilities and it is a comforting to see what can be done. My question is this what seizes do the cargo trailers come in thus far I seen, though video, I believe it was a 10'x6' cargo trailer, and believe this one is 17'x6'???.... so what are the different lengths and widths? Also what size vehicle will it take to haul the different sizes of trailers. Thank you in advance!

    • @jonsmith2217
      @jonsmith2217 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@karend.cureton-gordon6731 the nice thing about a trailer you don't have to have insurance on it, in Most states a one-time license plate fee and in a few states no tax. And these pull-behind basic trailers hold their value far better. speaking of interior inside dimensions for instance mine is 8 foot wide inside by 32 foot long mostly stripped down enclosed race car trailer. It's 8.5 wide outside And it's about 76 or 77 in tall with a unfinished ceiling right now. And my payload is 10,800 pounds. Payload is what you can haul inside the trailer. I think the one in this video was 7 ft wide by 16 ft long with about 76 or 77 Inch Tall and a gross weight of 7,000 pounds and pay load im guessing is around 4,000 pounds or a little more. Payload is everything you haul - add in the trailer cabinets bed water Etc and you subtract from the payload weight. Or if you don't want to do that weigh it at one of the scales I mentioned for free so you're not overloaded and possibly tearing up things. I think they make a 6-foot wide x 10 foot long inside dimensions enclosed single axle cargo trailer. They generally make trailers in equal lengths for instance 8 foot long, 10 foot long, 12 foot long 14 foot and 16 foot single and double axles. And these single and double axle up to 16 ft links are generally 3000 lb gross single axle and the double axle is generally 7000 pounds gross weight. Then there all usually 8 foot wide inside x 18 foot long - 36 foot long bumper pull trailers and past that all the way through 52 ft long gooseneck and fifth wheel trailers. And these trailers a 4-cylinder all the way through a dually diesel and more can pull these trailers. Also depending on the gross weight, what you plan to tow with and how often you plan to pull it is what I would keep in mind too. Most landfills and rock quarries don't charge anything to weigh your truck and then weigh the truck and trailer together to get your figures and subtract to get your trailer weight. Just tell the scale you don't need a ticket and generally they don't charge anything. But don't go to the Department of Transportation scales that can be sheer Terror fines and harassment. Because you don't want to be overloaded it can lead to hard to steer - control, flat tires, not stopping, wheel bearings going out, more problems and even possibly Wrecking.

      I have a 31ft dutchman in rough condition. I bought it a a doner trailer to build mine. I want to use the frame, shorten it to about 20ft and build my own trailer. Already got everything in the trailer, stove/oven, sinks and fixtures, refrig, even a big shower. The 31ft weighs over 9000lbs so it got heavy frame and axles. Even got new edpm roof ready to install. I just need to get to it, its slow recovering from BEATING stage 3 lung cancer Nd my house will be paid for in 4yrs. Good time to go see what all this country can show me, lol.....I had thought of a bus conversion but with a trailer I can pull it with my pick up and have the truck for day trips out sightseeing....yappers, that's the plan......

    My Gf and I rebuilt a 16' 1973 Shasta Camper I bought at an Estate Auction for $40 in 2019 during the covid lock-down. We both have Car Show Vehicles, I have a 66 International pickup hot rod and Gf has a 65 Plymouth Belvedere, We live in Jacksonville Beach but were traveling to Savanah Georgia, over to Pensacola and down to Daytona or Tampa 2 or 3 weekends a month plus we go down to Miami a couple times a year and it's a while lot cheaper to pull the trailer with a truck I'm already driving to the show and spend 420-$30 a night at a state park then it is to spend $150 a night on a hotel room. took us 2 weeks from start to finish, including having to rebuild the rear wall. We have talked about selling off the house and the vehicles and buying a new truck to pull the camper and living the Nomad life when we retire because she's orignally from New Mexico and I'm originally from Missouri and have kids and family in each state.

    Great video. He’s taken a small utility trailer to a whole new level. 👍.

    I love how he separated his areas... not many people do that.

    I love it! simple but very functional! Yet there are a lot of technical hook ups that I would not have any idea how to do... I'm still not understanding the whole solar thing. I plan to replay your how to video on it! Thanks Bob!
