EMERGENCY PODCAST: Lakers Hire JJ Redick to be Their Next Head Coach

- In the end, we finished where we started. JJ Redick-who began the process as the frontrunner, then went back to the front of the line after a brief flirtation with UConn head coach Dan Hurley-agreed to a four-year deal with the Lakers, worth about $8 million a year. So the Lakers got their man to succeed Darvin Ham.
There's plenty of intrigue built into this move, whether you're talking about the risk of Redick's total lack of coaching experience or the high end potential many around the NBA, and obviously the Lakers as well, believe Redick possesses.
What comes next will be critical. The Lakers are reportedly looking to surround Redick with experience (not surprising) but are operating late in the game to get that done. At least they're ahead of Cleveland and Detroit, teams looking for their own coaches. And, of course, personnel on the floor will be the most consequential factor in all of this. For the Lakers to succeed fast, they need to very carefully align skill sets with Redick's vision... one reason it was so absurd to believe the Lakers were comfortable waiting until post-Draft and even into free agency to get this done.
But now it is. Plenty of questions left to answer, but the big one is off the table. More to come!

If im AD, I'm on the phone with my agent requesting a trade right now. Redick said AD is NOT a top 10 defender in the NBA. That shows how much Redick has to learn before he's ready to be a credible, competent head coach. AD is already over 30, and if I were AD, I wouldn't want to waste my prime under another of Jeanie's soon-to-be failed projects because my legacy, not Jeanie's or LeBron's, will be most impacted by this decision.

Yup. NO ONE wants to coach a Lebron-led Lakers team because they know they'll just be a talking head with no power or decision-making ability. Plus the Lakers have ZERO young players to build around. @@olegman This IS a rebuild....but Lakers have been mortgaging their future and trading away young guys and draft picks for every past-their-prime rent a vet just because that's what Lebron wants. And for what? 1 Ring? in 6 years, Lebron has missed the playoffs twice, lost in round 1 twice, gotten to the WCF 1 and won the Finals once. And two of those years, they BARELY make the playoffs by squeaking into the Play-In, That's not a guy you build your franchise around.
The Lebron Era is over. He's done. There's absolutely no way he can win another ring in LA (Thanks to his and AD's massive salaries).
This is worse than a rebuild; it's neither a rebuild or a contender. They are just treading water until Lebron retires. When they can ACTUALLY start a REAL rebuild.

If they trade their 3 available first round draft picks (as many are speculating) to bring in veteran guys, then this rebuild is going to take 2 decades and will make the Ball, Kuzma, Hart, Randle, Ingram, Nance, Caruso years look like the golden age.

Can ANYONE imagine Lebron, AD, D'Lo taking or any other vet taking coaching from a guy who was NEVER as good as them?? This was a bad decision. Thanks to Lebron and Pelinka, the Lakers have OFFICIALLY jumped the Shark. This franchise has become a joke. No one wants to play for the Lakers anymore and the Lakers keep getting spurned by coaches with ACTUAL, legit Championship coaching experience (either in college or the NBA).because they are too cheap. Don't Worry Brian, JJ was hired over a month ago. He's had more than a week before the draft. Hurley was just to fill time and make Lakers fans okay with JJ.
