    Catching a 1 eye fish speed cranking is a testament to how well these fish feed with their lateral lines. Insane.

    great to see someone else on youtube sharing speed cranking and changing up cadence! Tactical Bassin channel has been sharing this technique for years. As well as changing cadence on spinnerbaits too! nice going

    This is WHY I Smallmouth fish, (besides living on Dale Hollow), to get that excitement that we can clearly hear and see you are getting when they hit that bait. What an awesome resource we have.

    Glad to hear a professional say you don’t need to hit something for a crankbait to be effective. Just changing speed and pauses are all that’s needed. I believe most people who don’t catch much on a crankbait just cast and wind. Nothing in nature moves in a static motion on land or water. There’s always pauses, twists, jumps and speeding up or slowing down. I like to visualize what my bait is doing all the time.

    I totally agree with stopping you're retrieve at the boat. Another thing I like to do in shallow waters, usually after seeing a lot of big followers and especially if i'm in the back, I'll drop a jig at my feet and just suspend it for a few minutes. I actually works!

    Nothing better than a bone jarring strike speed cranking! Right up there with topwater strikes. What Dime color would you suggest to imitate Ciscos/Tullibees? I have a trip planned to Cedar Lake in Ontario (near Perrault Falls) next Spring. We had great success cranking a now discontinued bait, Strike King Lucky Shad in bone for smallies, & walleye. It had a similar slender profile to a Rapala Shad Rap. I'm hoping the Dime will be my new favorite!

    • @MattStefanFishing
      @MattStefanFishing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Any of the Shad colors or translucent colors should work. I really like blue Shad, ghost hill, ghost morning dawn, blueback, herring, pixie dust and vanilla chartreuse

    That was the coolest freaking opener I've ever seen. I've seen a lot. Fished a lot and i have never seen anything like that. If I have a 4+lbs on i don't take the time to think of doing anything like that.😅

    I just got back from a 3 day bender at the camp bass fishing on Toledo Bend and I caught so many fish doing this... I had on a DT20, 5XD, and DT10 and the only way I could get them to trigger was burning that bait as fast as I could crashing it into the bottom or bouncing off brush piles. It's something I just started doing a couple years ago and It's without a doubt one of the funnest bites to get on. We dont have smallmouth anywhere around here but I could only imagine how hard they crush a crankbait moving at warp speed... LOL

  • @NeilGraham.I.M.F
    @NeilGraham.I.M.F ปีที่แล้ว +1

    We have been absolutely catching Smallmouth this exact way down the river. They love to spank it on the pause. And yes if you don't pause it at the boat, or in my case kayak. just as you start to pull it out of the water they'll come up and whack at it. Man it's fun!

    I was burning a square bill Saturday like this and killing it. Like you said I stopped it by the boat and a 3ft long musky took a swipe at it lol

    Great instructional video, your definitely burning it, so much your out of breath! But if I was catching mondos like those it would be awesome, you just gave me a use for my falcon rod, had it few yrs now, its basically the same rod, but never knew what you use it for, I bought it not knowing about rods like I do now somewhat 😂

    What an awesome video to watch, big smallies speed cranking, have you tried this with the Money Badger, wondering if this would work with that bait?

    • @MattStefanFishing
      @MattStefanFishing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i love the money badge but it pulls harder and IMO doesnt work nearly as good as the Dime for speed cranking. its just to wide wobbling

  • @richardmajewski3815
    @richardmajewski3815 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I find the opposite is true. I have been slowly retrieving crank baits across the bottom and catching them. Out of curiosity, what type of wabble does the Dime have? (tight or wide?)

    • @MattStefanFishing
      @MattStefanFishing  ปีที่แล้ว

      tight to medium...generally your wide wobble baits are not as good for speed cranking as they will roll over

    Matt do you think the hair jig is a good option this time of year due to how most people fish it? Speed reel stop speed reel stop etc. I know there isn’t a lot of fish still out deep but I tend to find bigger fish out deep if they’re there this time of year.
