The hardest thing for me is to start. That’s why i don’t like/ can’t take breaks, because it is to hard to start again. Even if the break is only 5 minute break it is still to hard to continue (((
You should do mini habit method on study/work/exercise /learning instead of pomodoro method. ( I found this suits my lifestyle very much as My work time are not consistent and there are many things suddenly pop out for me to do and handle, thus To-do-list is not appropriate as well) Try thinking to study for 5 min only. Maybe 4 times a day? When you studied for 5 minutes, usually you will get into the mode of study and wanting to study a longer time. In the process when u feel like slacking off, think again of studying for 5 more min. Other than this, you can add on the Energy method into the mini habit method. ( Morning - Easy energy work; Afternoon - High energy work; Evening - Medium energy work. )
honestly i have the same problem but what works for me is library i go to library after classes every day and it helps alot for example i study for an hour and then i go outside for 15 minutes and after i come back to learning that way you can literally study for 6 hours or longer with better focus, that's what works the best for me but it might not be the best for you it depends, if you can try it out maybe it will help
I agree wholeheartedly with timing yourself until fatigue as opposed to doing set intervals (e.g 25 or 45 minutes) something about it just allows you to find your groove better! Happy studying everyone!
I think a good way to start off reducing that break time is playing a 2h pomodoro video on TH-cam(random example play as many hours as u want). This has honestly helped me and my two sisters ,one being in 6th grade and the other being in 7th it’s hard for them to not get distracted even in focus time. They’d work for 10 min straight and start randomly singing or playing with whatever they see on their desks lol. But honestly when I showed the pomodoro technique they were amazed by how much time they’ve waisted before into a simple memorising homework…
I was also like this. The problem was what I did during breaks. I would do activities like social media scrolling that would be hard to stop + kills my flow. Now I plan breaks in advance. I prepare podcasts to listen to, or a 5 minute stretching routine.
I realized resently that I can focus for 5 hours straight with only minimal breaks inbetween and that has really helped me. That 25-5 or 45-15 session schedule always hindered me more than it helped so I'm glad to know I'm not alone. Another thing I realized as a somewhat introverted person is the importense of taking breaks in socializing. It's okay to tell your friends "hey I'm a bit tired rn so I'm gonna take a break and come back." That also uptimises your social interactions a great deal! (sorry for spelling mistakes, English is not my first language)
The quality and content just keeps getting better 🥲 great insight fellas. What was most notable for me from the video was the graph showing the optimal times to take a break and the worst times. Love the decorations and overall aesthetic of the crib too. 🙏
The pomodoro technique helped me very much back in the university days, but I absolutely love this new point of view and the explanation about burnouts!
Great tips! Loved the idea of when to take a break . I am the type of person who takes breaks when burned out, so this is so helpful for me. Also I want to add on an idea of how to take a break: Take a screen free break, this way your small break will not turn into an hour(s) break.
The first advice about pomodoro is so good. When I first learned about pomodoro my biggest preoccupation was that I;m the type of guy that takes 20 minutes to get in my flow but once I get out it takes even more time to get back

Breaks are pretty good. I used to think that they were a show of weakness, but boy was I wrong. I now take constant breaks and get more done than before
So guys i want y’all advice: how can i stay focused on a 6 hours long 300 MCQ exam. The thing is the reason i get less marks not because i studied less, it is because my focus was depleted during the MCQ test and the tricks in the questions get over my head… please i need help regarding this matter cuz my test is coming in a week.
I have two hours exams but for me that I get distracted easly is really difficult. my strategy is to take 5 minutes breaks during the exam. I litteraly relax for 5 minuts during the exam. at the end you will not lose time and you can re focus on the tricky questions refreshed and find errors in previus questions easly. for me that I struggle a lot is very useful. I prioritize to be stress free among everything. at the end those five minutes are not wasted and are better than 10 more minutes of trying to resolve the same quesition.
no breaks in the six hour long exam? try taking breaks while sitting at the exam site, breathe deep, sit quiet, then try answering the mcqs again. You need to replenish at breaks with some water and glucose, electrolytes like sweet chocolate, dry fruits like dates, walnuts, for fueling the brain. Do some research on what will energize you best.
I actually think that the biggest issue is the world around us- Unlike say, Edison who lived in a time where foods weren’t over saturated with sugars and they didn’t have access to dopamine-secreting computers in their pockets, we have all of the above and environments that are hard to resist. I don’t know about you guys but I have significantly more success practicing music (focusing) away from home. I wonder what the remedy for this is? I’d rather not get rid of my tv but am willing to take more drastic measures.
Because of two car accidents and 14 screws in my neck, I've been on longterm pain maintenance with tramadol and occasional hydromorphone when it really hurts. I've become a bit ADHD in the last couple years. When you mentioned in the video that you release more dopamine and serotonin in flow, it dawned on me that the ADHD could stem from the opiates. I also take ibuprofen like skittles for the pain. How do I fix this?
Wait, so how long do you take a break? Until you feel recovered and ready to get back into it? So let's say you worked 31 minutes straight and noticed your lack of focus beginning to creep up. I stop and do whatever that is moderately active to keep my mind off what I was doing but not become dull. Do I do this moderate activity or state of relaxation for however long until I feel in the mood to get back into my work?
You can check your stopwatch and see how long you lasted. Take that number and divide by 4 and that can be your break duration. Or you can resume work again if you feel it come back earlier!
Yes Jose! I think getting outside during the day is so important (especially in winter). There is nothing more frustrating than working all day, getting outside and realizing the sun has already set and you didn't get any fresh air!
But even in my breaks my brain starts talking or just revising what I studied rn ,what am I supposed to do then? And what I should actually do to give my BRAIN some break?
