    1.avoid plain carbs
    So combine it with something
    Ex rice w veggies
    2.Avoid plain sugar
    Aka Combine w something else
    3.no carbs +caffeine
Avoid plain carbs in the morning
    Eating late at night

I would also include the important factor of movement/exercise. I did self test, and it made a world of difference for my glucose levels and overall energy when I did just 20 min of aerobic exercise after a meal. Just a bike ride or a faster pace walk prevents these big insulin spikes because your stimulated muscles demand the glucose right away.
I get moving(20min) right after my lunch and dinner and again about 2h later. Gives me about 4 h more to do productive work and also I just feel much better.
Keep track of when you feel great and when you have low energy. 95% are activity, food, sleep. People somehow still underestimate these basic things and focusing on fixing symptoms.

@@KoiAcademy As a doctor you must be aware of the problems sugar can cause with or without other foods included in diet, maybe even half of your patients in the hospital are there because of it. Yet you only mention it in the context of caffeine and when it's eaten by itself in the morning. Even if its a stretch to assume all the viewers could not take the advice into account, why did you just brush over it like its insignificant that people are eating any sugar at all?

@@kebob3370 No im not a doctor, but he is, which is why i asked him the question. I can try to answer your question best I can; it may be that in fruit there are compounds that mitigate sugar absorption which may make them better than candy, just like how l-theanine in tea regulated the jitteriness you'd find in coffee, but I dont know, i would imagine eating a lot of high sugar fruit would spike your glucose. There's also the matter of fructose and lectins in fruit. Try to eat fruits that are low in those, i think plums and canteloupes fit that category, but low amounts, and you'll have to look up the fructose and lectin data on fruit

I have diabetes type 1 and my glucose levels are crazy, even though I work hard to balance it. I've always felt like I had less energy then most people and this video explains exactly why. My parents always judged me for "sleeping too much" and treated me like a lazy person cause I couldn't stay up and study or work sometimes in the afternoon. This pressure made me depressed and no doctor could explain the reason why I felt so sleepy or unenergized. If I had watched this video 20 years from now I feel like my life would have been so much better. Thank you for this content and for teaching people what nutrition and the variation to glucose levels do to your metabolism and energy levels during the day. It's not an obvious thing and as you said, each body has its own individual way of reacting to sugar, caffeine, stress, etc. Hope you can spread the word specially to people with diabetes that have glucose level variations much bigger than most people. Keep it up!

Is eating 3-5 eggs in the morning a good way to go? I mean, there are proteins,/fats in it.

    • @rachl8400

@@kakoto696 I cant really provide advice but if it works for you, thats pretty good. For some people 3-5 eggs is a lot, plus its not a very balanced meal. You could have for example 2 eggs, toast, avocado and fruit and that would be a really balanced meal. You want carbs, protein and fat at all meals ideally. I wouldnt stress to much about it though, if you find something that makes you feel good, thats most important.

@@kakoto696 Your egg intake might need variation. I have a very physically demanding job so I consume quite a lot. My breakfast is carbs, fibers and fat (porridge, 75% whole milk and 25% water, a lot of butter and something sweet on top so basically it's a fat soup). My first lunch is mostly protein (4 L eggs, meaty and spicy sausages) and carbs (yogurt, chocolate, apple, banana among the main choices). Second and third lunch are balanced. In the evening whatever goes, goes. By that time I'm so dead anyway so I'm often in survival mode with decent moderation though. This is my workday diet. Beverage? Water, water and more water throughout the day based on thirst levels of course. Supplements were omitted from my comment but I do take them more than dietary recommendation based on doctor's and personal feedback and knowledge.

I realized exactly this when I was a senior in highschool. Since I grew up in asia I had to study a shit ton to try to get into a good college and I realized the only way I could stay focused for a long time was to control what I eat.
I literally stopped eating simple carb (replaced with complex carb) stopped eating sugar (at all!) stopped eating at night and cut down on caffeine.
Funny thing is after senior year in highschool my body looked real good as well as my skin cuz I was not eating crappy food also I got into my dream college ☺️

I think that's the first time someone actually explains causes for fatigue and loss of focus without basing it on just motivation and discipline. Also, I'm wondering, what effect do the "healthy" sweets (with natural sweetners like erithritol) have on the body and brain when studying?

    • @ginnyl7208
      @ginnyl7208 ปีที่แล้ว +13

I'm not a doctor, but I am currently following biology classes at uni. Basically, artificial sweetners are "empty calories" and aren't carbohydrates (glucose) like actual sugar. So the body can't transform artificial sweetners into energy. So generally artificial sweetners don't elevate bloodsugar like actual sugar. BUT, the digestive system starts in the mouth and the body has a sort of "pre-reaction" to the taste and smell of sweet foods. So just the sweet taste can have an effect on blood sugar (although not as much as actual sugar). AND consuming sweetners for a long time can cause microbial changes that can lead to higher blood sugar levels. So short term, it won't be bad for you and its why many people with diabetes often choose artificial sweetners when they do want a cookie etc. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong please!

I tried wearing a monitor for a month after seeing this video. It was really interesting because all of my lack of focus and laziness was from my blood sugar levels. Does intermittent fasting cause ketosis? From what I understand, proper keto diet (very low carbs) causes it. Intermittent fasting causes your body to use up glucagon or something like that, basically a 24h emergency glucose storage.

    Simple tips that work
    1. Eat your veggies before your carbs. This works by not giving a glucose spike.
    2. Take a 10-15 min walk after your meal. It stabilises your blood glucose level.
    3. Avoid plain carbs. If you cannot avoid them just eat your veggies before you eat carbs.

3:21 as a type 1 diabetic who has poor control, I cannot tell you how badly unstable sugars effect energy. If I wake up too high or too low, my ENTIRE DAY is ruined.
Another note: when my blood sugar gets too low, I always eat pure sugar but then follow it with protein. One time my family was having donuts and my aunt who’s an ER doctor told me to put peanut butter on it (was pretty good acrually). Didn’t have issues after.

I'm going to recommend something that has helped me for food and energy.
I use something called the Glycemic Index chart. Foods rated low on the scale (55 or lower) will NOT spike blood sugar at all, they will burn steadily for hours. This includes foods like Brown Rice (or Basmati), Vegetables, Most Fruits, Al Dente pasta (durum wheat semolina pasta), sourdough bread, even some healthier brands of chips are rated low (but not all, be careful)
Rather than avoiding carbs on its own. I try my best to avoid 'simple carbs'. This eliminates HIGH glycemic foods (rated 70 and higher). Foods such as WHITE Rice, WHITE pasta, WHITE bread, rice crackers, biscuits, muffins, croissants, Mashed potatoes...etc are HIGH glycemic and spike blood sugar.
Just something to keep in mind. It is best to eat low glycemic carbs, or if you MUST, combine high glycemic carbs with fat/protein to balance things out like CKA mentioned.

@@TB1M1 This is a bit of a misnomer. Nathan Pritikin's diet was, first of all, concocted in the mid-20th century, during which time the American diet as we now know it became cemented. Its level of research and study for its time needs to be kept in question. Second, it's very specific that he was talking about *unrefined* carbs. Fresh veggies, whole grains, that sort of thing. In fact, his website (and whichever body continues his work) states in red and orange that processed carbs like white bread and refined sugar should be heavily limited or avoided altogether. So to say that he advocated for sugar in the diet is a tad disingenuous.
