    This actually helps. My parents ask me to design their dream house (since I'm a second year archi student) to be built in our province in Mindoro, but as a student I recommend them to hire an architect that can help them with the proper designs. The only thing I can do is recommend materials and other positioning of the house in regards of the nat'l bldg code, and your videos actually help me by adding more knowledge about building materials. Thank you Engineer!

    The best countertop materials supplier in Cebu City that I've known so far is STONE DEPOT. They have wide variety of selections between Granite, Quartz, Marbles etc. They installed my quartz kitchen countertop, and they really did a great job! Anyway, thank you for this video Slater!

    There’s also quartzite as an option for countertop. It’s a natural stone that has the delicate veining of a marble. It looks like the one you use in your kitchen is Calacatta.

    • @philindeblanc
      @philindeblanc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, quartzite is a natural stone and has some beautiful options. I would use either granite or quartzite...not a man made product with resins and recycled materials. Also the natural stones can be polished or resurfaced or honed. Quartz comes in honed finish, but it is much harder to maintain. Leathered finish of natural stones are also a great option. Eveyone has their reasoning for the choices they make. As long as the buyer is happy, then its all that matters. But know the facts.

    What about stainless steel?
    As a chef, I love the word “abuse” when discussing kitchen options. If the thing can stand up long-term to the abuse of a busy hectic service or incompetent management of hiring unqualified cooking staff (I’ve caught people opening a ring-pull can with a 22cm chef knife on several occasions!), then the thing is essential! FYI Quartz will chip if you accidentally miscalculate a swinging meat tenderiser. ;-)
    Great vid! Thanks!

      This is a super late reply to your post and you’ve probably already built your home, lol. But if you haven’t, one of my good friends (whose kitchen has been featured in a home magazine, to give you an idea of her design skills), always told me to choose hardware that feels good to the touch. She said “don’t skimp on anything you touch often. Countertops, hardware, doorknobs, etc”. As far as faucets, we chose a waterfall style for our bathrooms, I think it’s Moen or something like that. Gorgeous and modern.

    I bake a lot. I like solid surface counters. (Formica. Melamine.) They are warm. Great for rolling dough. Easy to clean with cleanser. I use heat pads, so the problem you mention isn't a problem. These are also cheap. Not like stone, concrete, marble, granite. Those are cold. Expensive. (Even here in the tropics.) All down to personal preference.

    Quartz is always the best because it is somewhere in between marble and granite. Granite is a cheaper option if you can’t afford marble and it also has the same downsides like it can stain and you have to maintain it more. Quartz is a better option because although it is not 100% stone, it is granite that is slightly engineered, so you wouldn’t have to worry about staining, there are no pores so you dont have to worry about maintaining it that much, however, it is not heat resistant. Im also glad I chose quartz because nobody got time to maintain granite and marble.

    • @shubhamjohri9231
      @shubhamjohri9231 ปีที่แล้ว

      No it isn't. Stain resistance of Quartz and Granite is comparable and Quartz isn't very heat friendly. Good old granite is the best bet.

    • @King-2077
      @King-2077 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shubhamjohri9231 nope, i had granite on my old home and i had to get that sealed everytime. There was one year I neglected it amd ignores minor spills like soy sauce and other stuff, and when i sold the house and looked at granite there were so many stains. Bought a new home and replaced the laminated wooden countertop on the new house to quartz, 3 years until now it is stain free and it is a pure white color with just some white streak design. Quartz isnt heat friendly but why would you put a burning cast iron on it anyway, that’s stupid. There are also tests showing that high quality quartz can withstand high heat even that of a burning cast iron. Cheap ones can also withstand it but will leave some marks but again who is stupid enough to put burn quartz anyway, you gotta try real hard to put burn marks on quartz and that’s a fact. Good old granite is good im not saying it isnt but you gotta maintain, if you’re a busy person like me, and dont have time to do it, quartz is always the best especially if you have friends and family visiting most of the time. Quartz is always the to go to countertop because it is engineered and doesn’t require much maintenance like natural stones such as granite and marble, that’s a fact.

    What are your thoughts about the Kompacplus as your kitchen countertop? Would you rather have quartz or kompacplus?

    There are lots of quartz countertop in the market, which one is good...the one which has veining through the back or is it ok if just on the top...they say sintered stone is the best but the one i saw has veining and coloring is on the top only. Any advise?

    Sir Slater, just ask if your quartz countertop is from stone depot? Is stone depot engineered quartz different from a solid surface? Thank you sir.
