Attending all five TCM festivals; a lot of retired elderly crew from early sitcoms attend. I always hear the same stories of Lucy and Viv; they worked long hours and giggled and had great fun in between takes. This genuine interaction between them on this video really proves that.
Thank your for your introspect/experience, as I had heard (via Gossip Tabloids) that Lucy had no respect for Vivian as she was the star. Nice to see the YT upload & your words of proof that that story is wrong, wrong, wrong. Love the old "I love Lucy" it is currently rerunning late night where I live. Some days I catch it and laugh feeling like it was written two days ago... humour is always current. Desi knew how to play second banana with no ego. Brilliant couple can see how his 'playboy' ways broke her heart...don't think she ever stopped loving him.
***** Actually, Lucy had tremendous respect for Vivian, and when she started out on her second series, The Lucy Show, she would not do it without Vivian. Vivian had a lot of demands going into that show and those demands were met. A lot of this gossip comes out of the fact that Vivian had to dress in frumpy clothes on I Love Lucy. But she was playing the part of Fred Mertz's wife. She couldn't look like a glamourpuss and be accepted as his wife. It wouldn't be authentic. Lucy's concern was that the actors look like their characters. And Vivian's character on I Love Lucy was a middle-aged woman who was not glamorous. When there were characters on the show who WERE supposed to be glamorous, Lucy made sure that they did exude every bit of the glamour the part required. For example, go listen to one of Barbara Eden's interviews about being on the show and how Lucy went out of her way to glam up Barbara's wardrobe. Gossip magazines and TV shows will say whatever they can to make for an interesting story. But the facts aren't always there. Even the contract Vivian reads in this segment, which was a gag contract Lucy gave Vivian at a surprise birthday party she gave her, urban legend has turned this gag into a real contract when it never was. Vivian was NOT required to be overweight on the show; it was a joke.
Thanks for your reply...I did not know a lot of these facts. The Lucy Show is on reruns and I really like it...yet I think it failed. Perhaps ahead of it's time regarding single moms.
***** I Love Lucy 1951-57. The Lucy Show 1962-68. The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour 1957-60.Here's Lucy 1968-74.Life with Lucy 1986. All in all hardly a fail..:)
I have to do more research but I did think it had low rating...maybe ...because my mom hated it and I loved it. LOL. Great writers and a lot of funny situations... shower filled with water; the roof top with her and Viv trying to install a antenna;, and the chocolate cake I could list more but go watch and enjoy.
The queens of comedy. I have all the seasons of I Love Lucy on DVD, and have practically burned them up from watching them so much - and I’ll buy them again. They are timeless classics that will never die.
When my youngest son was about 10, I had a bunch of I Love Lucy and the Lucy Show DVD's. He absolutely loved watching them. One day, he asked me why we couldn't get the stations to watch them on regular TV. I told him those shows were over 50 years old- and reruns. He was crushed, then he said, Wow Mom! But they are just the greatest! Yes, true acting in those days. Just doesn't get any better than that.
These two are friendship goals. You can tell they Genuinely loved each other. They are up there sitting in their jammies on a fluffy cloud gabbing it out.
When I was 13 I couldn't get enough of I Love Lucy Reruns. I still watch it today. I used to think or Vivian as the motherly type. I have never run across a sitcom as timeless in over 40 years.
Made me cry thinking about that last get-together before Vivian passed away. So glad they got to visit. They gave us so much laughter. Hope you girls are yucking it up, up there!
I Love Lucy is one of my favorite shows of all times. No matter what any network tries to do, there will never be a show like I Love Lucy. I'm very thankful that this sitcom exists and they will forever live in me.
Honey, don't be sad for them, they had a wonderfull life doing what they loved most: Making us laugh and had a beautiful friendship, and know they are together in heaving laughing with each other.
I guess you're 12 now? I just want to congratulate you on being so intelligent and watching old shows. It makes me happy to see young people appreciating old talent! (I'm 15 btw) :)
When history mentions the great comic duos...these two are always forgotten. They both were at their best when they were together! Thank you, Lucy and Ethel for so many times helping me mend a broken heart...grieve the loss of a loved one...or giving me some of the greatest laughter any man could wish for. You both are angels in the truest sense. God Bless and keep you both
Viv was the master of the snarky comeback. “If I’d known this is what friends are for, I’d have signed up as an enemy.” “I have sufficient.” “Well perhaps I’ll develop other talents like folding up road maps and keeping an eye open for clean restrooms.” “I wouldn’t do it if you took that pretty please, put sugar on it, poured brandy over it, and LIT it!”
You can credit Desi Arnaz for casting Ethel. A friend of Arnaz who had seen a play Vance was performing in recommended her. Desi went to see her stage performance and was convinced Vance was right for the part of Ethel. They could not get Bea Benaderet, everyone’s first choice. She was committed to the Burns & Allen show, which _I Love Lucy_ borrowed a good bit. Unable to get Benaderet, Lucille Ball suggested Barbara Pepper, a dear friend a talented actor, who also could have been great in the role, but she was an alcoholic. Since William Frawley, who was already cast, was a drinker, and CBS was unwilling to take a risk on a second problem drinker. Desi’s judgement made history and made the show the one we love to this day.
Vivian is sooooo funny, their true friendship and love and magic together comes out of the screen in this video like no other place on line. And that mock contract is priceless. Thanks you soooo much for uploading.
Actually ups and downs in their marriages - Vivian was married 4x and at the time of the I Love Lucy show her husband was physically abusive - she divorced him and married her last husband and that marriage lasted.

Our souls are. If they accepted Jesus, they are in Heaven right now. And if we do, then we will see them and can be eternal friends. We are all one heartbeat away from eternity. We all better make the right choice.
@doso don I didn't say anything about Hell and didn't go into any graphic details. If christians really believe what they do, which I am a Christian (following Jesus, not religion), it would be criminal to not warm people of the truth, reality. So be mad at me here on Earth. I
@doso don yes you could make that inference based on the knowledge of God's word and what he says. It is very exclusive there can only be one truth. Truth by definition is very narrow. Everyone has free will we can believe what we want to believe. Jesus says He is the Way the Truth and the Life. No one can come to the Father except by Me, John 14:6. So therefore if you don't love Jesus and don't accept him into your heart you don't get to go to heaven. Why would anyone want to go to heaven if they don't love Jesus and God. God is a loving God and doesn't make us do anything against our will. It is solely our choice.

Thank you for posting this!
My 18 year old nephew loves watching I love Lucy reruns!
Made me cry thinking about that last get-together before Vivian passed away. So glad they got to visit.
They gave us so much laughter.
Hope you girls are yucking it up, up there!
There will Never 👎🏼 be another Lucille Ball & Vivian Vance! They were closer than sisters
I love this. Knowing they were truly good friends is very special. I love Lucy and Ethel. They joy they left behind for all of us is a blessing!
The best sitcom of all time. Love these 2. You could tell by that hug how real their friendship was.
It is very rare that two such talented people who become friends get to work together and create something really special.
I Love Lucy is one of my favorite shows of all times. No matter what any network tries to do, there will never be a show like I Love Lucy. I'm very thankful that this sitcom exists and they will forever live in me.
I'm in tears right now and I'm only 11 I just love the show so much and I could tell they were very great friends
Amari Watson Amari your comment 3 years ago,is so sweet. Hope you are doing well. 💕✝️🎶✝️
Aww yes they were
Lucy made Vivian look frumpy and old. She was not so nice to Vivian.
God Bless and keep you both
Those glasses are fabulous!! They were amazing ladies ❤️
Elton John wants his glasses back...
That is such a joy to see them together again!
Thanks for posting this. ❤.

I actually cried during this, So sad.
Vivian's glasses are everything
Right?
I'm 45 and loved watching this show with my parents. These two were just the sweetest people on tv in those days.
These videos are beyond priceless..Thank you for posting.
Lucy and Viv had great chemistry always didn't they?
yes; classic comedic combination: like female versions of Laurel and Hardy
Lovely ladies!!
I've never seen Vivian and Lucy together before. A real treat. How nice to see they were friends in real life.
.
You've never seen them together before??? That's a little hard to believe...
@@jimm7098 I'm sure she means together in an interview.
My sister and I... My sister would be Lucille and I of course Vivian. The love both these ladies had for one another is rare and just so genuine💛🌹💛
There together now forever. We miss you both, and love you dearly. RIP you 2 crazy girls, GOD SPEED !!!!
Funny, Beautiful, Classy, and A Heart of Gold. There will never be another Lucy.
Vance was a huge talent. Next time notice how she listens and reacts in a scene. It makes the scene special.
@@inkyguy The "friend" was Jess Oppenheimer, head writer of I Love Lucy, who created the Ethel character!
Beautiful segment reuniting a wonderful comedy team. Thankyou
so nice to see this interview, They both made television history, Such great talent
I loved both them both. They were wonderful, beautiful, talented ladies.
Love them so much it feels like I'm home seeing them together.
Vivian is sooooo funny, their true friendship and love and magic together comes out of the screen in this video like no other place on line. And that mock contract is priceless. Thanks you soooo much for uploading.
The bond and connection is real and warmed my heart. Thanks for this upload
You could feel how much they loved each other. They were lucky to have each other through all of the ups and downs of their careers.
Actually ups and downs in their marriages - Vivian was married 4x and at the time of the I Love Lucy show her husband was physically abusive - she divorced him and married her last husband and that marriage lasted.
Good to see them (Lucy and Vivian) together again after a long time ( we all still love you because you two take us to our childhood days) ! Thanks a lot !
Never will be another two quite like them. They changed the world. I’m beyond grateful to have grown up watching their antics. Rest in Heavenly Peace Dear Ladies.

Hi Mercedes
How can this video be of such poor quality?
Glad to see Viv and Lucy catching up!
I like Lucy, but I love Vivian.
***** :)
I couldn't agree more! Vivian was the true comic genius of the 2.
They sure were.
Well said. They each had something special to offer us, but we all play favorites. Viv was precious, and Lucy was hilarious.
Vivian was criminally underrated as a comic actress.
Beautiful they were the best and in a key of their own rest in peace always remember you both with love
You can only wish that there could be a bond of friendship that lasted that long and endured what they did. The show was awesome! The Lucy shows were awesome and Here's Lucy where she guest starred where so much memorable. I loved them both!
Loved these ladies! I still watch the Lucy show daily!!!!
This makes me cry, so sad. Why aren't we immortal?
A person would have never known what was going on in reality because they took us away from reality and they knew what we needed and they gave it to us. Thank you so much for all you did to make us laugh, cry, and feel better., even when you were in excruciating pain, you went on. Thank You!
We are immortal. Life goes on after death!
Oh my gosh what can I say....I loved lucy and the whole gang. She was so funny. There will never be another lucy ever.
I own the entire collection of I love Lucy and I watch it everyday they were meant for each other and both of them were so funny I can't imagine a day without watching these two amazing actresses ... God Bless both Lucy and Vivian...

A real tribute to how a life long friend can be the best to get through tuff times.
This is wonderful!! So glad they had this last public reunion. They were quite a pair!!
Growing up, Lucy kept me rolling on the floor in laughter. Some people possess the gift to make you laugh, Lucy had this gift...
