The worst part about being a raging alcoholic, is that you can actually FEEL alot of these things happening in your body...It's an indiscribable misery, of constant hangover/drunkedness, not being able to eat, constantly vomiting...Just trying to keep down a few drinks long enough to metabolize to kill the shakes/body pain...As an alcoholic it's VERY clear that alcohol IS poison. You feel yourself slowly dying..

@MyLazySundae It's not so much scary as it is just living in sickness...Not to minimize your 2-4 drinks, but that's not THAT uncommon, and it will probably take many many years to do serious damage, so I wouldn't worry too much about it...But, I'm not a Dr.

    • @Tata-bd9nx

@MyLazySundae I started with 2-4 drinks every night and not getting hungover ,before i knew it i was taking one,two shots of vodka/gin with the beer to get the same effect, before i knew it i was mixing equal measures of vodka to beer. All i'm trying to say as someone whose been there, the earlier you stop the habit/trend the better. It creeps up on you,one year you are doing okay and dont drink much then before you know it you are drowning alcohol at an alarming rate, then you ask yourself how you got there🤷‍♀🤷‍♀

Alcohol and cigarettes addiction actually destroyed my life. I could remember several years ago after divorce with my wife which brought me into my disastrous journey on Alcohol and cigarettes. I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Got diagnosed with cptsd. Not until a friend recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. Much respect to mother nature the great magic shrooms.

Antidepressants at 18-29. 31 now. I took way to much, but took about 20g of Gold caps (Psilocybin containing mushroom) I analyzed my entire life. I am an alcoholic. My illness started later in life, neither mom nor dad ever drank so I wasn’t exposed to it. In college I didn’t really drink, while most my of my friends did. I started in Grad School, gained a lot of weight, depressed, and anxious, turned to alcohol. I have been suffering from this for about 7 years now, sometimes I drink every day, sometimes every 2 days, but it is a constant struggle. I have no memory of many things that have happened to me in the last two years. The longest I have gone sober is 35 days, but I keep relapsing. 😔😭

I’m 27 years old and I have been drinking since I was about 12 and heavily since 14. About 7 months ago I went on a 3 day bender and barely ate or slept. I ended up having a grand mal seizure in front of my house, thankfully while one of my drinking buddies was there to call the paramedics. I have been sober for 6 months now but I’ve already caused damage to my cerebellum in my brain, damage to one of my kidneys, and neuropathy affecting my ability to feel where my limbs are in space which makes it difficult to walk on uneven surfaces without tripping or falling. Doctors are hopeful that since I’m so young that I’ll be able to recover with extensive physical therapy and sobriety but it’s crazy to have problems like this at such a young age. Let my mistakes be a lesson to any of you younger guys here that think your partying will have no consequences.

My father has suffered from wet brain for a long time. He was told 3 years ago he had 2 years to live. He's still here, but his body can't digest food correctly. He's thin and pale, he's wasting away. He has sores from malnutrition because even if he eats, even if he takes medications, his body just can't absorb it properly anymore. He's been a heavy drinker his whole life. He began drinking when he was 12, he never learned to read or write because his parents were also drunks. He has spent all his life in a bottle and unfortunately his family has always enabled him. I called him this New Years to ask if he was alright. His health is always bad, there's always more bad news, but hey at least he's able to talk. I'm glad he's still here. But he could be gone tomorrow, and the elephant in the room is we all know why.
Edit for context, as I'm sure it sounds insane, and it is insane, but he's from/grew up in, and lived his whole life in the Appalachia impoverished region of the southern US. Unfortunately being unable to read and write, and childhood alcoholism aren't that rare out there. It's very sad. Sad doesn't even cover it.

Grew up around alcohol 24/7 with the inevitable abusive short and long term results emotionally and the physical. As young adults we drank beer 5 days a week after softball, MN and Sunday football and chasing girls at the clubs. As we got older the drinking was always there all the time. I quit on and off for 30 days, 90 days, 6 months and the longest 2 years to train get back in shape focus on my business or just accepting it was getting out of control. When I went back to drinking I gave all my gains back eventually. Weight gain was the most noticeable. I could would go from Fit and a proper weight to fat then obese within the year. I accepted that the liver attacks poison first before anything else and if overworked will store everything else as fat. This is why in your youth you bounce back from nights out drinking and can keep the weight off more or less. As you age you wear out the liver and store fat instead of eliminating. This is why when you quit drinking you lose weight. Along with the caloric reduction your liver is free to process everything you put in your body sans alcohol. I no longer drink because it’s boring, people who drink are boring it packs on the weight and interferes with my work outs, relationships and business results. It is quite the change when you factor in how alcohol is woven into all aspects of our society and culture. I prefer being FIT and all my lab tests in the normal range. Just had to eliminate the booze. Simple really but admittedly difficult but not impossible. Focus on how good you feel to help stay the course. Good luck.

This video makes me feel great for not drinking alcohol necessarily whenever I party with my friends.
I had "friends" that whenever they were drunk told me that I'm a nerd that doesn't know how to have fun. Now I notice that I was in the right place, just finished a computer sciencie degree and I'm some months about to make a startup with my hard work.
I feel bad to watch them 10 years later having real problems with alcohol (and so weed).

So far alcohol in moderation seems like a really effective tool to socialize but should never be the base although I’d be better off 100% abstinent. One beer an hour never seems to hurt if it’s occasionally like during a social event

78 days sober today. Not that I'm counting haha I drank 12 pints of lager a day and smoked weed along with that. Started drinking in the morning until I fell asleep, then wake up feeling miserable and continued drinking, feeling 'better' again after the first 2 pints.
I can't explain how my life changed for the better these last 2, 5 months. Still, I'm craving very heavily at the moment. I know why, it's always the emotions, and I know what I should do and I will and am, but still. It's kind of sick.
Edit: Not to long after that comment, I relapsed. Fuck it, I convinced myself, just one evening. This turned in a 6 day bender. Very scary. Everything good just faded away and was replaced with fear and depression again. It was a big wake up call, and I quit again and been sober since, feeling strong and peaceful again.
Ever since I quit a couple of months ago (I quit for 3 months minus 6 days now 😉) I get reality checks, some are more confrontational than others. The one that made me drink again was a big one, but the reality check I got when under the influence was even bigger. Big enough that I wanted to quit ASAP again.
It's all part of it, I guess.
Thought I'd write this up too, for people who are in the same boat as me. Much love everybody, you can do it. 💙

I’m not an alcoholic, but I’ve never understood this idea of counting the consecutive days of zero alcohol consumption. To me, it’s more logical to look at a trend. For example, In this past four months did I drink less or more. If the trend keeps getting better then your life will keep getting better. Fell down? So what. Get back up. This all or nothing mentality seems futile. For alcohol or most anything in life.

@@JK-vc7ieThis is very true and the course of action most addiction counselors and therapists will take for majority of addictions. Be it gambling, sex, or indeed, alcohol. Progress isn’t always as straightforward and linear as a lot of people not suffering from addiction might think. I can say this as I’m 19 with a (somewhat) problematic drinking habit. A year ago (it’s now march of 2024) I was drinking a handle of vodka or rum in 2-3 days, couple or few times a week. Now I’m down to a 2 6 once or twice a week, often less though. I no longer feel the need to drink like I once did, and to me that is progress. I still get cravings and I don’t think I have the strength yet to cut it out completely, but I have been noticing a downward trend with alcohol consumption as the months pass by, and hopefully it will continue on this trend further. I’m too young to notice any health problems from drinking yet but alcohol is a slow poison that will eventually creep up on me with time, so it’s better I deal with this now than 25 years from now.
(Edit: I live in Canada and in a province where the drinking age is 18, so I’m legally buying alcohol, just not without the disapproval of family, friends, and my current romantic partner)

I don't think I've drank in over a year, nothing to worry about and I'm not an alcoholic, as I'd like to have the odd drink but there comes a time when you think even 2 shots of spicy rum with a mixer is just too much and you put the kettle on 😂. I did drink excessively for a few years, thru not working and depression, and ended up with a fatty liver that I could feel in my chest and it hurt too when my doc gently pressed on it. He said not to immediately stop drinking just cut back to moderate levels and in a few months, with more exercise, my fatty liver was looking way better and cleared up. So if you drink loads and you get a pain in the chest, that's your liver crying and being angry at you for the abuse! Drink cool and not like a fool! 👍

The stomach pains were the worst! It always felt like it was about to explode! It was something I'd never wish even on my worst enemy. I've had the worst nightmares too! Just thinking of all those things I went through still makes me cry because I almost died. So after all those years of binge drinking, partying, coping up with depression and whatever reason it was for drinking, it finally caught up with me. I even thought I was invincible to adverse effects of alcohol when I drank too much, lol. Stay sober, friends.

In the fall/winter of 2020 I was in the hospital with bad pain in my sides and I had my spleen removed. While I was in the hospital I realised I had to quit alcohol for good and I'm glad I did. I'm now 2 years and 6 months sober from alcohol and I never felt better. Now all I do is drink coffee, some caffeinated beverages and smoke cannabis and that's it. I'm all for moderation but it does depend on the person.

I used to say that too. It’s a worn out trope, able to drink in moderation. Thing is that life is amazing without alcohol, absolutely amazing, free and has purpose. I am an artist and I never painted when I was drinking. Talent lies dormant under the weight of booze. My father, a doctor died from alcoholism. Highly intelligent, highly qualified man. He never could beat booze, sadly.
I wish you happiness. Hope you stop drinking.

I used to drink here and there but in a short amount of time, the smell and taste really started to make me ill. Maybe a gin and tonic, but I can't even remember the last time I had one of those 🤷🏻‍♀️

I gave up alcohol a couple of years ago but did have an occasional glass of wine with friends about every 2 or 3 weeks. After watching the Huberman podcast on alcohol and the brain, I gave up completely. I really now believe that there is no safe dose. I say this, having consumed in my life, the equivalent of around 12000 litres of wine.

You gotta practice being You without alcohol at first and it will be tough in the beginning but then youll realize your real personality was held hostage for years and you were fooling yourself that you needed a drink to feel confident and comfortable. I felt weird at first but now feels great. i still go to events and bars but order juice... and save a ton of money!

The problem is most people interpret "moderately" as 1-2 drinks everyday or binge drinking once a week. Just don't drink. This video vastly understates the problems alcohol. A drink once a month or every couple months is enough.

The beginning phase is super fun & amazing, middle phase is fine, neither good nor bad, and then the ending phase is the longest and it's all bad times and embarrassment, trying to relive the excitement of the beginning phase

I know it was about what alcohol does to the body, but I expected a segment on cognitive functions like aggression typical addiction signs and speech impairment even in sobriety.
I was stunned a few weeks ago, when I noticed a pattern of impaired and/or sluggish speech in people I knew are acute or former alcoholics.
funnily enough I heard some guy yelling to another something along the lines "drinking till forgetting your mother tongue, amirite" a few months ago - that's when it started to click.
    food for thought I guess

A few good tips i’ve heard around the place when drinking alcohol (I don't drink it myself, this is just what i’ve heard):
-Every two shots, have a cup/shot of water. (Helps with the morning after)
-Always, have a sober friend with you when going to places like a bar.
-Keep in mind that (biologically) males (2-3 drinks? I think) can metabolise more alcohol can females (1-2 drinks i think) on average. So keep that in mind.
-When drinking in public places (E.g. Bar), always be sure to have a cup cover on you (for both sexes) to protect yourself from drink spiking.
-Eat SOMETHING before you drink (this slows down the alcohol and allows it to come in slower and more passively)
-If you’re having stronger alcohol, decrease the amount you take based on that.
-Don’t drink with the sole intention of getting extremely drunk and keep drinking to an occasion similar to that of a small sugary guilty pleasure.
Feel free to correct me on any of these, I am not an expert, i am just regurgitating what i’ve heard from other sources. Thank you and i hope you’re doing well. Whatever it is you’re doing, i wish you luck and hope you’re staying hydrated.

Hate when I go to a really nice restaurant and the waiter ask, " would you guys like to order drinks?" The minute I say nope, water is fine. The waiters cheerfulness drops. You can tell they are upset bc he will not get a HUGE tip. This is why I dine out less and less.

3:30 and the reason why it matters that you dont absorb vit D, is that calcium isnt broken down in the body, and calcium buildup leads to a large part of our problems, in the brain, kidneys, liver…
