I was sold on this book after listening to the podcast. Can't wait to read it. Also - in the podcast Will mentions Toby Ord, author of The Precipice and someone who helped him found all the altruistic stuff he's a part of by the sounds of it. That book I have read, about a year ago, and similarly it remains one of the most impactful books I've ever read myself. i encourage people to check that out too!

living caring about the future is so fulfilling but at same time stressful cause at a certain point you have to sacrifice willingly pleasure for now trying to create a better future either for yourself or for others,especially when you live around people who have no clue that future can be made better by us.

When you switched out of the healthcare profession I felt slightly conflicted as to how subject you were to the desire of wealth and TH-cam fame, even when you still continue to make content that benefit other people's lives for free. That word "unhinged" stuck with me after watching the movie with the same title (starring Russell Crowe). Well, the movie is particularly not that great, but I can get how/why people become deranged and do all sorts of stuff to harm others. Having said that, a virologist can release pandemic-causing virus, an engineer can build rogue AI, or a mad dictator can launch nukes. This may not happen because there are safety mechanisms, and also, there are more good people than bad ones to be honest.
Coincidence- Am here after watching the video 'Is civilization in the brink of collapse?' by Kurzgesagt and here Ali describing about the same book as does by the channel.
This comes off as a rich/healthy persons hobby. There are people that are really bad off and hopeless right now. Shouldn't we sort out our selves and current citizenry? Hopefully these people that don't yet exist can learn from us and prove they deserve to even carry on the torch.

That word "unhinged" stuck with me after watching the movie with the same title (starring Russell Crowe). Well, the movie is particularly not that great, but I can get how/why people become deranged and do all sorts of stuff to harm others. Having said that, a virologist can release pandemic-causing virus, an engineer can build rogue AI, or a mad dictator can launch nukes. This may not happen because there are safety mechanisms, and also, there are more good people than bad ones to be honest.

The most impactful book that I've ever read could be a full length series
This comes off as a rich/healthy persons hobby. There are people that are really bad off and hopeless right now. Shouldn't we sort out our selves and current citizenry? Hopefully these people that don't yet exist can learn from us and prove they deserve to even carry on the torch.
