    I was about to start an oil and filter change on my S Max and found your video. So glad that I did, because I would have struggled with the oil filter without the tool you have kindly linked in the description. Thank you! 😊

    Thanks for the video. Just gave up trying to make things work when I discovered your video. Doing this on the equivalent 2013 Mondeo. Have just ordered the tool and oil change postponed till it arrives.

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It all becomes easy, when you get on it, get the confidence and start doing it. Please mind, that if your Mondeo has automatic gearbox - oil in that also needs to be changed every 35.000 miles.

    Thanks, just done my first oil & filter change. Filter was actually much easier to get to on my 2012 Galaxy, higher up and on right side of engine.
    , just needed to remove an air hose to get to it.

      "...higher up and on right side of engine" That sounds like the 1.6 TDCI, not the 2.0 liter! ;-)

    Just had a look at this as recently acquired an Smax, the service oil light has just come on. Doesn't look too bad a job to do apart from the ridiculous oil filter location. I've got a socket attachment with a nylon strap loop attached, used on a car I had a few years ago, just wondering if that might work...

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Not sure what fuel filter has to do with oil filter, but I can say for sure that maybe it's possible to replace oil filter without special too with a BIG strugglel... actually no - you still need something special, because access is very limited.

      Managedthe removal of the oil filter with a normal 27mm spanner with the front steel plate off the fuel filter for a few more millimeters. Slow process of turning the spanner over every turn but manageable.

    Is it not necessary to leave the car horizontal to get all the oil out?

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends where the plug is. On VW's it's even better, because plug is at the back of sump. When we did that Ford - it didn't feel that sump tilted that much. I think unless you lift the front ridiculously high - plug still should be at lowest point.

  • @daginge29
    @daginge29 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Doing this tomorrow, do I have to let the car off axle stands and back down level to drain all oil?

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think so, if it's lifted only this much, drain plug must be still lowest point.

    • @daginge29
      @daginge29 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wawayltd yeah, just finished the job, I think it drained fully up in the stands. I think I may have slightly overfilled the oil, maybe a couple of mm above the max, so now I'm worried! Should I jack it up and drain a small amount out?

    • @deano386
      @deano386 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@daginge29 to much oil is as bad as not enough. done mine today and have always empted the oil then rolled it back off the ramps and started to top up keeping a check on it dont just put the lot it as there is always some left in the engine. put and a 3rd in and keep a check with ths dip stick letting it settle before you rip the dipstick in and out. easy stuff. just keep an eye on the sump plug and filter housing to make sure no leaks.

    • @daginge29
      @daginge29 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@deano386 yeah I was reading that! Car was on drive on a slight slope, when I parked it on the flat and left it to settle, its absolutely spot on the max!

    Does it work the same on an Automatic? Thanks

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. The car in the video is actually automatic (PowerShift). However, you need to remember that automatic gearbox also needs oil change and it also has filter. Once in about 35.000 miles. There are videos here on TH-cam how to service PowerShift gearbox, so I didn't make one... Might do in the future.

      If it has 2.0 TDCi engine, then probably yes. Please mind - if you gearbox is automatic, you need to change oil and filter for that one too - about every 35.000 miles. I don't have video for it yet.

      @@wawayltd Hey, great. Thanks for your reply. It is indeed the 2.0 Automatic Diesel. Oil has been changed yesterday but the filter hasn't been changed yet as I'll need a new housing cap(for the oil filter). Can it cause a serious issue if the filter isn't changed at the same time?
      I never had any issue with the transmission but after the full service(including timing belt), I noticed that the car was revving up every time it changed gear(some call it to gear slipping). Do you reckon it has anything to do with not changing the filter?
