Who’s up for a Toyota showdown?! We’ve got the Toyota Supra going up against the Toyota GR Yaris!
Now on the face of it, you may think this drag race is a little unfair. After all, Mat’s sat in the Toyota Supra, which has a 3-litre straight-six to deliver 340hp & 500Nm of torque.
However, the GR Yaris lining up alongside him is no ordinary GR Yaris! It’s been tuned by Litchfield, and despite the tune only costing £640, it can now deliver 300hp and 385Nm from its 1.6-litre 3 cylinder turbo!
However, the tune isn’t the only thing that’s giving the GR Yaris an advantage! First up, it’s AWD compared to the Supra being RWD! What’s more, given the Mk5 Supra is powered by a BMW engine, we know its launch mode can be fairly temperamental at the best of times!
So what do you think - will the drag race be an easy win for the lighter, cheaper GR Yaris? Or will the Supra have what it takes to bring it back? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

His launch was good but watch his ger changes, the car loses speed like he dropped the revs before pushing the clutch in. you can see him do it on both goes, the car dips and comes back to Mat.
@@will4may175 yes, I spotted that too. Seems to be the 2nd to 3rd gear change. Perhaps also a ratio setting. Seems unlikely to be driver error both times

Edit: Upon rewatching I noticed it simply is the supra's red paint reflecting in the brake disc.

Because has almost twice the grip because of awd. With brake coefficient of 1 tires (premium performance not slicks) you can get 1g of acceleration while with a rwd 50:50 weight distribution you get like 0.6-0.65g max acceleration

I get asked that question every time i visit the car wash because apparently they had the mirror caps of other Yaris fall off in there before and the people working there can't tell the difference between a Yaris, a Corolla and an Auris.

it Does launch Really hard! the ultimate stoplight sleeper mobile.... up to any sane speed around city streets, that yaris would stomp most anything..pulled well on the supra till right near the end of the 1/4..you'll never get that fast on local streets... probably got passed at around 100mph

Once you go above ~250bhp most of the performance improvement is above 70mph. Not much use on the road and the extra power adds weight which reduces both agility and affordability.

Yes more cylinders improve power delivery and power smoothness. However peak power isn't relative to the number of given cylinders and overall performance.

BMW Launch control:
1. Put the car into Sport + mode & transmission into Sport mode (2 button presses and one one small movement of the gear lever)
2. Stomp on and hold down the brake pedal
3. Floor the gas pedal
4. Lift off the brake pedal and let the car do its thing.
This process is better than some other launch control systems out there, and arguably hard to mess up.

as with the brake test Vs the civic type r it looks like the abs on the yaris isn't quite as good as the others. the wheels are locking up too much. if might be better if the driver turns out of and modulates themselves.
