yer my dad was a joiner all his life and can do almost any thing so iv learnt so much off him , but there are loads of people out there that just aint got a clue with things like this and really struggle with simple things , mainly cos they dont know , so this one was for the didnt know peeps , thanks mate

Just got to make sure the surface you are striving onto has an even and flat level is all! Might be getting one of these, seems easier than the contour gauge we attempted to use for our headliner shelf for sure!
there not cheap for what they are but honestly this little bugger is spot on , iv had a few cheap one and they just fell appart , , omg that dam headliner shelf i still have nightmares about it

Brilliant. I came on here specifically to look at scribing tips as I need to do the bathroom wall as well. found your vid, first one i've watched and bingo. cutting cardboard with a jigsaw, now that's a genius move. every time i've tried it with a stanley kife it's come out rubbish. gonna give it a go. thanks Neil! there a great little tool , and yer you can make a scribe out of a bit of wood for free , but i just think cos its got the wheel on its just better and man its came in handy so so many times

This will work, but it looks like your wife/friend is scribing the cardboard that's already been curved. One frame it's square and the next it's rounded. But I get the point. Notes taken, thanks.
It has to be roughly cut in to the shape before you scribe it

yes yes yes horizontal lol i couldn't even think of the name of it , so just went with it , ans oh man iv made so many scribes and kept losing them and binning them not thinking , but yer i agree making one would be a cool video to be honest , and yer that was DAVE the cat making an appearance shes the fighter and hunter of our pack , and yes DAVE is a girl , we didnt know this until she had kittens lol but kept the name so it just stuck , and i think you need to make a posh wooden carved scribe ,

There are loads out there but this is the 3rd one we tried and it worked for us really well to be honest . And I know loads of ppl make there own but it works and you’ll use it for loads of projects . Thanks for watching mate

As a carpenter and joiner of 25 years all you need to do is put a point @2x45 degrees on a piece of wood and drill a hole for your pencil, does the same job 👍
And as a joiner you would know this but not every ones a 25 year joiner mate . Plus I know plenty of joiners that have one cos they are allways at hand and they don’t need to make one over and over again . Plus they make joiners pencils when a pencil will do . It’s a case of each to there own and every thing has a purpose . Plus my dad is a life long carpenter and man how many hammers and saws do you guys need lol
@@UrbanVanlife I have several of them if I’m honest 😂 I have tools for tools, almost half a ton of tools that my van doesn’t like the weight of them one bit, my tools tools and van really don’t get on so I have put my tools in storage when they are not on site

I’m gonna do a video on scribing, daunting if you have never done it before but if you’ve done it thousands of times you get quite good at it, no templates, no arsing around with fancy tools, just perfect scribes everytime 👍
I’ll look out for that one mate . And I can pass your expertise on to ppl. But I would imagine doing something for 25 years your going to get good at it . Some are good and humble towards the people that literally have never done it before . I’ll look out for the video I’d be interested to see how a pro dose it 👊🏽
@@UrbanVanlife I’m humble, I said daunting if you never done it before, if I’m honest I’ll never get round to putting a video up, however I have an interesting video on my WhatsApp on how to scribe an ellipse in a floor using a router, where can I send it, you’ll love this, some pro thinking all in a days work.
I made the jig for the floor layers because they didn’t know how to do it.
There are better tools with double wheels spread apart at 90° to the pen that enable a perfect scribe, it takes away the need to make sure you are holding it at the same angle all the way down.
Nothing is fool proof . And this works perfect

thanks mate that is going to be a great site for us , and the above cab is a night mare mate , but stick in there and youll get there , it drove me mad , but good stiff cardbord is the key to getting the shape spot on , and take your time and unlike me dont destroy things when you get angry every 4 min

You got to be carefull. log onto the venue or shows website and look at the list of companies selling Many VW show hosts have 3-4 companies selling same thing that's crap because it dilutes sale.

Very good video, but wouldn't be easier ( and cheaper) just to get a soda pop cap, drlll a hole into it center then use a pencil or marker to scribe?
it would be but then some people just dont know how to do it , i mean there are so so many little things you dont need to buy , but we do , and to be honest i was so annoyed with making one and losing it , i just bought one
