Sad to learn of death of this legend today April 25, 2023..who is here to celebrate his consistency in giving good music. RIP Belafonte...your music lives forever
In 1962 at the age of 14 I had saved up enough money to buy my first ever LP and it was called Harry Belafonte - Excerpts From The Belafonte Carnegie Hall Concert. I still got this LP today , what a treasure and what beautiful music !!!!!!!!!!!!
Got first introduced to this amazing voice when I was 15/16 year old. It was my English/Choir teacher who introduced me to this song and eventually Harry Belafonte. I love her for introducing me to Harry. It’s a sad day. Sure sad to say, he’s on his way but he will be always there in Kingston town❤
All of Mr. Belafonte songs are so beautiful and have endured the test of time. There is no modern singer who can match ; their songs are quickly dispatched to the dust bin of time despite the amount of money they make
He is awesome. Wil be ninety- four on March 1st , 2021. Two weeks from now. G- d bless him. There’s Belafonte and then everyone else. A league of his own.
My grandson plays this mesmerising flute with his mouth without the flute. And I sing along with him.The three generations having singing Bela Fonte. He is eternally fascinating.
DAY O or the Banana boat Song is more a Calipso song of Harry than ALL other Calipso song of Harry but Im Sad to say I love more the músic of Harry is Islands in the Sun and the Cu Cu Ru Cu Cu Paloma. When I hears these músic, my Sad just fadê away
I remember my mom listening to this on our computer when I was a little kid; I walked in her office and we ended up dancing! Not sure how but it reminded me of “white” music and really made me think hard about what divides us and what brings us together ❤️ You’re a real one, old timer! I’ll always be a fan!
Forty one years later ,Belafonte still sings it as beautifully as he did back then.Making it into an audience participation song was a wonderful idea. Now,eighty nine ,G-d bless him. The song is a true classic.
Oh dear - it's making me cry! I remember being a little girl who had to leave Kingston Town - to go back Home to school in England. I returned to Jamaica a few times - and it's beauty never fades! Thanks to Belafonte for bolstering the memories for me!
Harry Belafonte altijd al een fan van geweest, alle liedjes van hem vind ik heerlijk om naar te luisteren. Zo,n lieve man, en een prachtige stem, love HIM! Liefs marian.
Harry your voice, art of expression which comes in from your soul proves .................you are our Ambassador and the best!! I unite with you from a far away land named India, Calcutta now Kolkata, the place from where late Tagore, poet, lyricist did lighten the world as you go on doing. It,s so hard to hold back the tears while listening to this song because it brings back memories of happy childhood days gone forever! Harry Belafonte................THANK YOU FOR FOR SHARING YOUR GIFT WITH US! God bless you for sharing.
Time tested performance ... Audience of world was spell bound ... till present day ... performance would be remembered with respect for many many years to come .... I am just "FIDA" whenever I am hearing him ... simply mesmerized with his tonal quality of his voice as well as the style ....
This is how to control the stage & audience together. Came to listen this evergreen song, but going back with respect with his eccentric control ability. Take love from India. ♥️
this is one of the songs our family sang - a regular in our folk song nights and hootenannies! I still remember at 5 this song made me cry, because I thought a little girl like me was being left behind on the shore.

Indescribable indeed. God bless you Papa Belafonte.
Oh, the memories.
As an eight year old boy infatuated with my best friend and first love (we sat together in infants' school), in a land foreign to me and from which I was shortly to depart. I was not relishing the leaving.
In the back garden, I was singing this favourite song and about to utter, (I had to leave a little girl in) 'Kingston town', when my mother from an upstairs window at prcisely the right time, intervened, interposed and shouted down with 'London town'.
Oh! The indignity of it! My indignation was palpable.
Sixty five years later, I still feel it. I wonder, to this day, how that 'little girl' is faring in life.
