A mate of mine was a pro fisherman and he said John Dory were his favourite eating fish down here in South Australia. Also that flatty out that far and deep is an eye opener for me, I had no idea they went out that far and deep. leather jackets are what I survived on living at Bondi Beach in the early 80s, unemployed and broke trying to get work in a city that I knew no one in. The local fish and chip shop filleted fish and then cooked them for you and LJ's were dirt cheap, I swear I ate only them for 2 months while sharing a 1 bed room (dero lodgings) with 2 others that was the size of a prison cell. Hard time when I look back
Your story resonates with me albeit not as tough. Early 80's, I spent some time living in a Bondi hostel and eating take away food. Eventually, I got a job and moved on. With rents as they are now, even this would be difficult. I can understand how people end up sleeping rough.
Hey Gido...!! Right on, changing it up...!! That fish on your thumbnail looks like something I'd see after eating some mushrooms...!! Crazy beautiful...!! Keep up the great work... from Alberta 🇨🇦 where it is currently -20°C...!! Ciao, brother... ✌🇨🇦🙂
I'm in Southern California and the deep dropping season is ending in December. I'm heading out tomorrow morning to do exactly what you are doing in another part of the world. I do have an electric reel when my arm gives out from slo-pitching. When you go below 200 meters it makes a "reel" difference.
I just commented something similar. I did some deep dropping Mid-November off of San Diego at the 9-mile bank. Slow pitching is the best, but it’s tedious to reel in 5lb+ vermillion and Boccaccio in 600-800 feet of water while you already have a jig/ weight tied on that weighs almost a pound itself. It’s just dead weight, no fight… That being said, I still haven’t given in to the electric reel temptations yet… mostly because of the price and I don’t deep-drop nearly enough for one to be worth the cost 😂
Was a great episode, Dory is a big eating fish back in the UK, we have a lot of John Dory, great eating fish. Great episode excited for the next hit of Gido thanks
Gido nice John Dory great eating fish you and the boys did well a good day at the office mate might need to start pumping iron 😂😂😂 👍 Cheers Wombat🐾🐾🎣🤗the family looked like they were enjoying that Dory 😋
9:45 is that strange curved line the lateral line of that fish, or just some debris? if that's it's lateral line i'm genuinely bamboozled 😂. one of the craziest looking fish you'll ever see.
We went out sane day off 2pb canyon got a hapuka a few snapper and stuff but many’s good spots we struggled hard. Great nanny’ spots full of leathers etc also got a John Dory
We did keep a few and they are pretty good eating but certainly not the species we were after. They also damage your assist hook cord and sometimes bite the FG knot
@gidosfishingadventures yeah they sound like triggers lol. I thought I heard that well known teeth crunching haha yeah they can be a pain with those.crazy teeth. I had a trigger bite clean through a 3/0 circle hook.
Great content, as always! A bit off-topic, but I wanted to ask: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). What's the best way to send them to Binance?
Never mind everyone I see in the comments that it is a great eating fish. I just have a phobia about eating anything that appears strange to me. Prolly never going to Japan because of that! lol
Your action on your rod is way too light for deep drops over 50 fathoms! That’s why you don’t know if you’re bit on the way down, and the stretch of that much line out!!🤙 It’s crazy to me that you are using a bass fishing rod, ( a cranking stick nonetheless, medium light action 8’ I’m guessing.) for deep drops.
Bro be quiet it's a slow pitch jigging rod built specifically for slow pitch jigging by oceans legacy. I fish 600m of water with the same outfit with 25lb braid and catch 25kg+ bass grouper regularly it isn't a fresh water bass outfit.
Here's today's Million Dollar Idea! What you need is a reel with a digital readout to tell you exactly how deer your lure is. Just zero the system out every time you have to retie. Gimme a call in a few years once you've made the millions. I'm not a fisherman, so perhaps it already exists?
Dude they have these crazy reels that reel fish in for you! and they have big “screens” with a line counter on them I know there are ones that just have a line counter on them too
Watching you jokers playing with panfish rods in the ocean makes me laugh. I use nothing smaller than a Penn 4-0 for bait here in Jupiter Florida. Get them in now, we're not playng here.

We did keep a few LJ’s. And we caught 4 flathead that day! I was disappointed not to get one.
I’ve always enjoyed the coat. But yep not everyday could be worse

cheers for adding the cooking touch at the end. Solid video mate
Yeah proper calm conditions in the SW for sure
Good to see you boat 🛥️ fishing 🎣 buddy

Great episode excited for the next hit of Gido thanks
Great to see the family enjoying the fruits of your travails!
Looked like a great day of fishing. Loved to see the different species available. Quite a bit different from the cliff fishing.
Nice to see some deep dropping boat action, looked like a good ocean-going tinny, heaps of room for 4.
Gido nice John Dory great eating fish you and the boys did well a good day at the office mate might need to start pumping iron 😂😂😂 👍
Cheers Wombat🐾🐾🎣🤗the family looked like they were enjoying that Dory 😋
I get excited when I see a new video post… but NOTHING beats you fishing from the cliffs!!! Period.✌🏼🇺🇸♥️
Looked like a fun day - thanks, Gido! ✌️😎✌️
Gido....saya selalu mengikuti video mu di TH-cam
Keren dan selalu bahagia dalam melakukannya ....

Simple.
Love your work, bud
Quality vid as usual Gido ure a legend 👍🏽
Awesome fellas 🎣 such a sick boat! 🔥
Good work Gido. Don't forget to angle instead of winch. 😊
I felt that dropped nani, another great video mate!
Hey gido love your videos. By the way leather jackets are amazing eating you should give them a try
That was cool, almost makes me want to go on trip.
I wonder if you could use a cordless drill with an attachment on the reel to wind the fish in
Im sure it’s possible
Back to the cliffs Gido! This is too easy for ya haha
Epic as always and thanks for sharing
Liked that a lot boating with the boys!
Always a great video
🤙😎👍
1:52 the Bronx cheer 😂
We used to get them in the fisheries where I worked at when I was a young fella in NZ. They were called Silver dory
Probably have a few common names. Delicious!
Has a large spot in centre for Aisian version and is called Moon fish. Very popular and was served to US president when visited S.Korea at dinner.
I think we call that one a John Dory here
@@gidosfishingadventures gido love the video I think it’s called mirror dory
Good to see you don’t always go solo fishing.
You can come and cook fish at my place any day Gido.
You get John Dory in UK waters as well. Beautiful eating fish 🐟
Something a bit different, good times. Think you forgot you had a fighting belt on. Used once. Great footage, thanks.
I did ! I’m so use to fishing with the rod under my arm I forgot it was there most the time
What a bronzer life you live.. rock on Gido..
noice fun boyz, Gido's nannygai for sure the last one, lol
Hey mate where do you get that cap with the mud flaps on the back. I’d love one of those
How’s the water, frothing 😁 great video mate 😁
Was a beautiful day for it! Got a bit rough on the way back in but a tail wind at least
9:45 is that strange curved line the lateral line of that fish, or just some debris? if that's it's lateral line i'm genuinely bamboozled 😂. one of the craziest looking fish you'll ever see.
I think thats just its lateral line. I never tried to fillet it though and didn’t pay much attention while eating it
Wow beautiful fishing
Some of the boys need to come for a paddle and climb gids. 🤣😂😝
Why do you guys fish with the reel handle on the wrong side?
😂
@@andrewparry6106 😇
How good is reel winding exercise.
looks like a good time!
Leatherjacket are generally great eating

Yeh I think most boats had a similar day
Love deep drops. Just never know whats going to eat your jig.
Silver dory or mirror dory. Beautiful fish
Isnt that a mirror dory different type of john dory pretty sure
Are the leather jacket not good eating they kinda remind me of trigger fish here in the states
We did keep a few and they are pretty good eating but certainly not the species we were after. They also damage your assist hook cord and sometimes bite the FG knot

Nice eats Gido..
You think you have it bad with the leather jackets wait til you come bait fish in Hawaii 😂
Personally I prefer the solo adventure episodes but, that looked like a lot of fun and was entertaining. 😊
Who wants the same video every episode.
Always nice to mix things up and have company on occasion
I caught a couple of them dorys locally in 10m 50km west of your location on live whiting
great video
What weight was that jig Gido ?.
I changed weights depending on depth. Think it was 300-400g most the time
@ Yeah one of those Diana Seaborg G300j ‘S would have been handy. the number of leather jackets on my last trip out were insane. They wreak some gear.
I'm surprised you use the NZ/Maori name for hapuka, but that's cool.
Don’t tink I ve ever fished in water that calm out there
good eating John Dory
John dory or silver dory I thought John dory had a black spot
@@kevingleed2928 I make you right
The only downside about fishing with mates is the ribbing you get when you drop one at the boat.
All part of the fun 😆
@@gidosfishingadventures Fore shore.
1:56 walk the plank
If mirror dory is anything like the John Dory we get in NZ they are delicious
I imagine they are, just found deeper and different colours. Certainly was delicious too
Bro why does the music feel like minecraft, wtf. sounds so good haha. I used to play it but now I just fish and listen to the music
Marvelous
Fishing 300+ meters without an Electric reel is unheard of in American waters lol😂.
Those leather jacket are really good eating
We did keep a few. Just wasn’t what we were after
😂We have a lot of that fish in Morocco 😊
Dory is one of the top eating fish you can get.
Damn you got massive forearms do you deep-sea fish a lot of workout?
Rock climber
@gidosfishingadventures you should get into arm wrestling you have arms like Devon larrat
I don't know what that fish is but you didn't eat it did ya?
Never mind everyone I see in the comments that it is a great eating fish. I just have a phobia about eating anything that appears strange to me. Prolly never going to Japan because of that! lol
Learherjackets are beautiful eating btw.. easily skinned
We did keep a few. But they were a pest. Biting off lures and hooks
It bouced here!
👍👍🔥🔥🔥🔥
LJs are ok to eat - epec if thats all you've got.
We did keep a few. But certainly not what we wanted. Some more and bigger harpuka was the target

If I went out that far and didn't catch a gag or king or sword or dolphin I would find a new spot. No way I'm fishing the ocean for crappie.
Trigger fish are delicious to eat
🤙🔥
Yeah you got to eat them fresh
I think you need a bigger boat...
Blue sky in albany . 1 of 100 per year lol
Would like to see a vlog with ur family in it brother after ur fishing, tour of ur home or neighbourhood, god bless 😊
