I enjoy the information you're giving. I'm still learning how to even get started forging, so all the information helps a ton. It looks like I need more tools and an actual anvil. Beautiful blade BTW love the design and the handle
All you need is a heat source, a hammer, and something to hammer on. You could get away with a chunk of steel as long as you can secure it to something to keep it from moving around. The heavier the better. Many other countries take a solid round and put it in cement and forge on that. People are recourceful.
I am teaching myself as you are and looking for tools for this craft, I've been a mechanic by trade for 33 years. So far, I totally suck at this trade because I don't have a furnace or a steam hammer or whatever those things are.
@JPsBladeworks Ok cool thank you!! I have a chunk of I beam with 2x4s strapped to it I just need a way of securing it. I have slowly gotten my hammer collecting together. I just need plyers I bought my forge two burner propane box. So I'm excited to get started. I've collected a ton of random steel too. Couple broken files, coil springs from vehicles I've worked on, a chain from my trucks transfer case too to try. And many more steel items.
@Viktory2k1 Not gonna lie. My fear of not being good at it is what has kept me from doing it all together. I've been a mechanic for as long as I can remember (19 years old in the Marines 35 now). I've collected steel from all my jobs from mechanic to mining to now wind energy technician. I just need to start. I can't afford a power hammer or anything fancy for heating. I bought a cheap two burner forge off eBay and an "anvil" off Etsy it's an I beam with 2x4s strapped to it. I live in an apartment with no garage so I have to go to a parents' house to do anything. But I've set myself a goal this year at least one blade by the end of the year.

Okay, this is my third time watching this video, so first thank you for the talk during your video explaining what you're doing and why and how, I just wish I could do what you do, I can', but it's fun to watch you.
This is the first video I've seen from your channel. Half way through the video and so far really enjoying watching you create this knife. I do enjoy some knife making videos with no talking, almost like asmr.. but as someone who has never made a knife, the talking and and the information you give is also really enjoyable and appreciated! Will definitely watch more of your videos and looking forward to future builds!

Thanks. Glad you enjoyed
I restored my knife handles and coated them in apoxy resin. It worked for me. Beautiful cleaver.
As long as it can seep in and harden it will work great.
I wish they made a volume control for people that don’t want to hear you “yap”. They could use that feature, instead of complaining.
Keep up the chatting explaining what you are doing with the metal!
The patterns on the blade look awesome!! Nice work!!
I, for one enjoy your "yappin." Love your channel and in my humble opinion you do some very fine work!!!
Thank you i appreciate it
Enjoy every vid, another lovely bit of work.👍👍👍
Thank you i appreciate it
Ditto to all the other comments: your voiceovers are exactly what sets your videos apart from similar bladesmiths. I appreciate you creating the ASMR channel to give a wider range of viewers access to your content, but in my opinion you don't need to tweak anything about your main videos. Keep it up!!
I wont. This is my bread and butter and i enjoy doing them. So my priority will still be to make these videos.
I have not seen many people use the dowel method other than Black Beard Projects. It is something more knife makers should try
It is practical for preping ahead in quantity but for one time uses it seems a bit time consuming to me
