You'll need to create a batch render (Set the Render Settings to anything that is not "Single Frame" and then use Render > Batch Render to create an image sequence) from each camera angle and then composite the footage using a dedicated film editor.

Hey! Really appreciate the video and the response. I actually just figured it out, if you use Viewport 2.0 and playblast from the Camera Sequencer it preserves the resolution gate mask :) cheers!

This is normal. The resolution gate is meant to give you an idea of exactly what part of your scene will be playblasted. It has no use in the render/playblast itself.

Thank you for a practical tutorial and also for providing the scene files.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Film Gate could be tweaked to mimic the settings of a real world camera right? I guess the assumption here is that if you intermingled this footage with real world footage (thought obviously this would need some real work to be of that fidelity) at some point, then the film gate would be useful.

I'm using Maya 2013. At 1:43 this video shows the attribute editor with the imagePlane1 tab selected; below that is an imagePlane label with imagePlane1 in the textbox. However, on my screen if I choose the imagePlane1 tab, the label says transform, not imagePlane. In order to display the labels and options shown in the video, I must choose the imagePlaneShape1 tab.

You only need the Film Gate if you're matching a background plate. Then you need to massage the Film Back attributes. That doesn't apply to this situation.

is there an already prepared source so we can follow your steps or we have to create those buildings as well.

    cool tutorial!!
    I have a question.
Is there a way to play multiple view at once only using maya???
For example, show three views(perspective, right, and left side view) at the same time.

    • @Autodesk_Maya
      @Autodesk_Maya  5 ปีที่แล้ว

WONDER TV you can hit the 4 View button in the left Toolbox.

      @@Autodesk_Maya Thanks for answer.
But I don't think I've been able to communicate properly.
Is there a way to render multiple views at once using Maya???
I'm currently using a method to render one view separately in Maya, and then use Aftereffect or Premiere to make multiple views visible at once. (example: front, right, left view, each view is one-third of the screen.)
I wonder if I can set up multiple views on a shot only using maya.

@@wondertv1356 Unfortunately no. Work like that is typically done in post, so you'd need to render out the seperate views and composite them as you've been doing.

once again maya creates something great that is not complete !!
you should be able to bring in trax clips and poses directly into the Camera sequencer....Basically what I"m saying is the Camera sequencer and Trax should be one complete system so you can truly work in a non linear way !! C'mon Autodesk stop teasing me and fix trax and integrate it with the camera sequencer

when I playblast out of the camera sequencer I lose the resolution/film gate, is this normal or can I turn it back on?

  • @DigitalArtsGuild

Should you really be using the Film Gate? I think the Resolution Gate would be appropriate here. Film Gate does not show the cropping of the shot in the final rendering. It shows the film aperture, and it's defaulted to a different aspect ratio than the Render Settings. 99% of users don't know what the film back is, or how to use it -- nor do they need to. If they follow this tutorial they will not get a WYSIWYG picture of the framing and composition of the renderer.

It is very unfortunate that it appears the Camera Sequencer and Maya's Trax editor are not integrated. ....Maybe I'm wrong about this.
It seems to me the camera sequencer is a great feature but you should be able to put your character clips and poses on the same timeline and work together.
Please Autodesk make this possible your so close but still to far with this.
