    She spent so long checking to make sure that no babies were left behind, did it worry you that there might have been a 4th one still in the house?

    The proximity of those roofs really makes it easy for them to traverse without being seen. The brick also seems to aid them in getting up and down the gutters.
    There's a good 10 foot gap to our nearest neighbor's roof, so they were using the tree branches to get to our roof, which have since been trimmed back. No sign of racoons returning to our house yet, after the trapping and repair/protection work we had done last year.

    Do you repair the damage you have to do to remove the baby raccoons or do the owners have to make a claim to their insurance company?

    • @gateswildlife
      @gateswildlife  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, in a situation like this the soffit was easily put back in place with no damage caused. For the most part we take care of repairing other damages caused by the raccoon. However, in some cases, particularly with roof-related damages, homeowners may need to consult with a roofer after our work is completed.

    This stinks poor mother has no where to go that is safe for her babies. if it was me I'd build a temporary shelter...I mean they will be gone in 8 to 10 weeks. we've had many animals take shelter under our shed and just give them quiet and space. the shed door is always partially open year round of situations just like this.

    The magic of raccoons,, they tear in to your house,, do significant damage to your home,, you call the pest removal people,, they get them out,, the total cost is under your deductible but not at all cheap,, it's magic,,,, and of course the raccoons move on to another house nearby to start the process over for another lucky homeowner with a $5000 deductible...
    They're wonderful precious darlings !!

    I feel sorry for the mama and her babies.
    They have to keep relocating because of human encroachment

    • @nadiarepich5199
      @nadiarepich5199 ปีที่แล้ว

      Humans won't stop until every last inch of wild land will have been destroyed. As a radical animal rights person (Abolitionist Approach) & also radical environmentalist, it also needs to be said that when such conflicts of interests are involved (human vs animal with regard to property damage) this Gates approach should not be considered an option. The Gates method should be the rule not an option. I always feel sorry for the evicted--some worse than others. Imagine being a Mom & having to protect & provide for your children. They had a class where raccoons were drowned in their cages in front of students who didn't rebel. A class lesson. "When wolves or coyotes (or raccoons) are called “vermin,” however, evil becomes unleashed on the world. In the heyday of wolves being called vermin in North America, people did monstrous things to wolves like setting them on fire or tying their mouths shut and letting them go. The human- supremacist worldview devises such language (like “vermin”), but language itself has the power to maneuver perception into the modality of seeing as. Awful things can be done to beings who are seen as vermin. In recent times, we have also witnessed extreme cruelty, extermination campaigns, and herbicide warfare directed against animals and plants labeled “invasive.” The power of language to cast a dark net over the world, its power to bewitch and lead morally astray, cannot be overestimated." Eileen Crist. If you want things to change, everything needs to be changed from the bottom up. Right now as it stands, Gates appears to be doing a great job. I would personally make a box in the corner of my property for the mother & babies for a few more weeks. The raccoons are still in deadly danger from other humans.

    All that hard and dangerous work this great team does is for nothing because Canadian law doesn't allow to relocate those animals where they belong in the forest. These monsters judtvgo to another house! Ridiculous?

      Mother raccoons exhibit a strong maternal instinct, and it's not uncommon for them to return one final time to ensure all their babies are accounted for before leaving the nesting site!
