    I cant see me ever developing anything with CANBUS protocols, but I found it very interesting to get an insight into how OEM use the CANBUS and how to reverse engineer how it works. I loved the vid!

    I eventually want to get around to a comparable build for my XJR, these videos are extremely helpful just for me to get an idea of how deep this rabbit hole goes!

    Definetly not boring! I would love to see more videos on putting an aftermarket ECU into these Jags! In the future when I want to push more boost than the factory ecu can compensate for I want to put in an aftermarket ECU. The trick is here in California we have emissions testing every other year so I need to be able to mimic the OEM ECU and how it communicates in terms of emissions info. not sure if that's even possible or practical but that's for later lol. alternatively I wonder if I could set it up so I can swap back to the OEM ECU for emissions tests as all they do Is plug a computer into the OBD2 port and as long as the computer says everything is working as intended then you pass. As far as i know they dont even put it on a rolling road so it would never get into boost so i can "safely" run the factory tune even with more boost.
    sorry long comment I'm just thinking aloud haha!

    Very interesting! Wish oems had to share their canbus protocols , atleast for discontinued models

    just came across your channel and was just curious if you still have the dsg mini r53? seems like a very cool build was just curious if you ever got it out on track?

    • @TuningShed
      @TuningShed  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, we've still got it, we pulled it out last week actually. It's a winter project to get it track worthy again. I left it in the hedge, and it's very green! 🤣🤦

    Fascinating work, how long before you produce a plug and play for general xkr owners

      The issue really is the Gearbox. It's probably at minimum, two weeks of solid work to even consider reverse engineering the CAN stream. It's hard to warrant it being perfectly honest. Most people that need these sorts of modification levels, have often changed the gearbox anyway. It might happen, but I have no plans set in concrete being brutally honest at this point. We've just not really had enough interest.

      @@TuningShed From what I've gathered with these videos is if someone is keen on keeping an auto then it's almost easier to just swap in the ZF 8HP as that has native support by MaxxECU meanwhile the stock 5 speed is proprietary and will require development.

    • @TuningShed
      @TuningShed  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@phantomflame0658 Pretty much that. I certainly don't plan on supporting the 5 or the 6 speed at this point. Currently working on an 8HP in an x150 4.2 as a road conversion. I'll do a video at some point. It looks promising.

      @@TuningShed Hey just curious are you still thinking of making that video? I've seen people in the comments or on other Jag content or on the forums mention that they'd love to somehow upgrade their auto gearboxes in their XKR's or XJR's or STR's etc. One guy with a X350 twin-screw got his 6HP26 internals upgraded in Australia with ones from 6R80, but 3 years later is still trying to get the software to work. Other people are interested in the topic and especially the 8HP.
      I feel like the cars used to be too nice and new for people to want to mod them, and the 6hp was deemed "good enough" for most people. But now since they're more of an enthusiast car, not just a flashy car for yuppies and old men, I think you'll be seeing way more interest in these 8HP swaps. Not everyone is ready to go full race car with the manual conversions, it is a Jag afterall!

    I’d like an ecu for my 1999 Mercedes c43… could you help Steve ? Don’t think it has canbus but is auto as standard

    Hello. You seem very knowledgeable on the subject. I have a question. I have a 2006 Jaguar xj that I want to do a General Motors LS engine swap on, but I read (a comment made several years back) that because of the CAN bus system codes found on the x350 models, the car might not play well with engine swaps. What do you recommend on the ECU/CAN side be done to have everything work properly and make the swap successful? Thanks in advance.

    what do you think a general cost/(possibility even) would be to purchase a plug and play Maxxecu for a 1999 n/a xk8 with the 5 speed manual s-type box? keeping the rest of the car standard for the most part? the days are numbered on my zf5hp24 and someone in my group has been trying to sell the manual box/flywheel. thank you for reading!

    • @phantomflame0658
      @phantomflame0658 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Be careful because the 5 speed Getrag unit in the manual 2.5/3.0 Duratec S-Type has a different bolt pattern to the V8. You'd need a gearbox from the 2.7 diesel S-Type like the Drivetribe Jag project. Swallows Racing have done a couple of those and have a kit.Or if you're loaded then get a T56 Magnum as it's objectively better however way more expensive.

    Thank you very interesting video! I am planning on fitting all the running gear of an XJR into a Ford Transit but having the engine mid-engine. Not using the pop shaft and bolting the gearbox to the diff just using the rubber doughnut. I was going to use the jag loom but this could be a better option! I also plan to compound turbo the engine. Do you now the limits of stock engine/ auto box, diff? th-cam.com/video/gNXerv4kbpA/w-d-xo.html
