      About 7 minutes for me. It really is super basic info that anybody flying a drone should already know.

    I've been flying RC sailplanes for 43 years and you're right, I'm not too happy about this. As much as I dislike geo-sat-push-a-button flying I don't entirely blame quad-copter guys. The open skies we use to share and enjoy are being commercialized and each cubic mile put up for sale.

    • @ellzgoespro6568
      @ellzgoespro6568 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem is they should have been requiring it before now. You can kill someone if you crash a large fixed wing into them. Just like a little drone.

    • @sleepingbearffg5008
      @sleepingbearffg5008 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@ellzgoespro6568 you do know not one person has been seriously hurt or killed . Ever in out Hobby. Not One. Maybe.. possibly.. could.. are not logical. Fact's. Not One. So why do feel the need for rules? No could possibly.. a golf ball could kill someone? Any stupid person can by golf clubs.. hit randomly into a Park.. housing.. concert.. I'm Shure has happened? Now you suggest all golfer's get a license? GPS tracked balls? I don't think you deserve freedom. You so easily give away.. or take from others? Hoping your not American? If are you definitely want my gun's.. lol I seriously doubt could kill anyone.. hurt heck ya. But kill? I've hit myself lol hurts! But mostly pride.. but is your opion. And we still can have those.. Right??

      @amen_ra6926 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@ellzgoespro6568 I have to disagree. I started flying R/C fixed wing when I was 12 back in the 70s long long before any of this mess. No one ever got hurt. No cars were ever crashed into.
      .
      I don't have an issue when it comes to regulation. Like in finance or health. But regulating air under 450' is just ridiculous on the face of it. Why now? Because businesses want to use it. And they have deep pockets. Hobbyists have never posed a threat to the air space because we're small in number and there is a lot of space. It's corporations that want to use UAVs as a delivery system that started all this. It's not a very efficient system and there are bound to be losses from theft and vandalism. Let's see how long they're willing to go when they start losing tens of thousands of dollars in drone gear.

      20 years ago a guy I know did a maiden flight with a 60 size at park. On his first round he lost orientation and dropped out of the sky into baseball backstop fence just before the parking lot. The same guy was recharging his alkaline batteries in his transmitter over and over again and lost a 30 size biplane at a couple hundred feet up and it barreled in full speed into a different parking lot barely missing cars. He had equipment with no failsafes. I have flown since the late 90's and I've seen dummies fly all models (planes, heli's, multirotors, pizza boxes). Back then when you invested in a radio, receiver, and other equipment you had a substantial about of money to get into it. Today its like a kids week allowance and that is why we are seeing so many new dummies.

I learned so much, and still learning, as it opened up so many more opportunities for flying. I’ll be getting Part 108 when it’s in play.

Not one person in the history of our hobby has ever been killed or seriously hurt. So not about safety.. that should be very obvious. What is your conclusions based off that fact alone. In typical government fashion, having a part 107 pilot take this new test is senseless, since whenever we fly, anything we shoot could be of value and I would never fly and say I'm just doing it recreationally !

    You are the first person to call a quad copter - a quad copter. Every RC aircraft is in fact a drone. No human is onboard to fly it. Including our military drones. I have encountered some intense conversations with a few people because they think airplanes and helicopters are not Drones. They say the Drone law is for Drones only. Lol. And I say “Yes. True. “. They don’t understand the terminology. You are the only person I have heard address this. Thank you.

    I took it today on Pilot Institute and the process took about 10 minutes. I do have years of experience and a Part 107, but I did miss one question. Once you miss you immediately get to try another answer so no big deal. It’s easy and free. The certificate is printed out like about a work badge size. We have a laminator so I just laminated it and hung it on my badge thing I wear when I fly with my part 107 and my drone registration card. No big deal.

      Flying a drone is like riding a bike or motorcycle. The fear of crashing can make you nervous. Whenever I take my drone out for the first time I can feel the nerves start tingling. I know it's going to be fun, but at the same time scary too. I imagine it's worse for people who fly RC planes. Drones pretty much fly themselves. Unless it malfunctions if it crashes it's because of something you did. Hitting a tree limb you didn't see, flying sideways into a bush when trying to land, stuff like that. But practice makes you feel more comfortable flying. I've been flying for about 4 years now.

  • @scottfhscottfh

    Russ, I just wrote the FAA test. I'm from Canada. The FAA knowledge test is a joke. In Canada, the exam is 35 questions, with a 90 minute time limit to complete the exam. It costs $10.00 for the basic exam. You must pass with a min of 75%. If you fail you must pay and redo. It is renewable every 2 years. Also it covers subjects such as aerodynamics of flight, such as lift, weather, radio communications, etc. Not to mention, in Canada you must register each drone individually at a cost of $5.00 per drone. So ya, you guys got it easy!! If you get caught in Canada without a license or drone cert, the fines start at $1000 to $5000 cdn. So again, you guys got it made.

    Thank you. First to bring it up and totally correct on the ease of the test. I also agree that the information is relevant and well presented (on the pilot institute site where I took it). It is important in my mind that people entering this arena be educated and I think this does the trick.

    Comment#2: Well I decided to go to Pilot Institute and take the "safety test." It took me about 10 minutes to complete. I chalk up my success to the local drone club I joined 10 months ago.

      @@sleepingbearffg5008 - I'm not sure what your comment means. I guess I took the test just to see how easy it was and how stupid it was. And it was stupid

    Thank you Russ! New sub here. I just took the test which took about 20 minutes and I got them all correct the first time. I have been flying my drone for about three years now. Again, thanks

    I am a newb to the drone community and do appreciate this 3 year old video. One humorous observation is, you refer "Drone Institute" as a good source for taking the TRUST test, yet they are not included in your suggested TRUST test list in the video description. :) Nevertheless, all is well. Thanks again. Stay safe!

    This is not even a test anymore, but rather a TRAINING of basic basic knowledge that every drone pilot should know. Good information)
    I have already passed it and received a certificate.

    I just took the safety test and passed using your recommendation. It was easy and good information plus I did learn a few things about flying a drone I didn't think I needed to know so I like it

    Thanks for posting this, I had not heard of the requirement. As far as no one is keeping a record of our information, well...

      Right....My certificate has my name, a Authentication Token number and the issuer/date of issue. I beg to differ on "no FAA record of issuance" b.s... I believe this is going to eventually dramatically decrease the number of 1st offense "free passes"

    • @geezerpleasers_OG
      @geezerpleasers_OG 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The information is deleted by the provider as soon as you're done and have downloaded your certificate. That's exactly why you can't go back and re-download the certificate later. The FAA only records the certificate numbers. They do not store any of your personal information in connection with that certificate number. All of the comments here about your name going on a list are wrong, because there is no such list.

    I don't know if you or one of the subscribers mentioned this but this training is also being offered by the AMA. I used Dart Drones for my Part 107, and asked them. They directed me to the AMA.

    Did mine on University of Arizona site. I am a part 61 certificate holder as well as A&P, IA. This was easy being a pilot. But, then again for non pilots it will be good information.
