I do love that Mechanism just made the largest criticism of the Jsaux modcase a non-issue. I tried the Deckmate when it first came out and loved it but really wanted a case and cover so I got the Jsaux modcase and am very happy with it. now I can use the adapter and use the better kickstand lol.
The Jsaux one was okay but for me it ended up warping and not really fitting the steam deck after 2 months 😔 I ended up getting the skull and co case and it’s so nice. I also like that the bumpers are more accessible
I’ve had the JSAUX Mod Case for about a year - everything you said is true, and I love it. My only criticism is that the stand is a *little bit* floppy, but it works great setting it on a table to use with mouse and keyboard - mostly for those times when I’m in desktop mode setting up stuff for emulation. I also have the tomtoc case, and it still fits inside, even with the cover, but it felt like overkill, so just put it in my backpack with the JSAUX cover and it’s well protected.
I own the Jsaux case and I can completely recommend it. Absolutely worth it and if you’ve never had a killswitch case (like me), you will not notice any cheap feeling materials. It’s awesome!
I LOVE the Skull & Co Switch cases on both my OG and Lite Switches. They make the Switch vastly more comfortable to use, so I was so excited when they announced their Steam Deck case. And I like everything about it, except the particular shape makes my hand cramp up. That's a very personal thing, though, since hands differ. Their Switch cases are still amazing, and absolutely worth getting (especially because they include multiple handle types so you can find the one that fits best for you)
I own both of these! I have the skull and co on my OLED and the modcase on my LCD. The skull and co is my favorite case by far. It fits snugly inside both of the stock steamdeck cases. I'm not certain if it fits inside the 1tb OLED case, but it fits the same in the 512gb OLED case as it does in the LED case. If my partner used the LCD deck more I'd probably pick up another skull and co to replace the mod case. The mod case is great, but on the LCD deck it has one rub for me; and that's that if you have stick caps on the steam deck there isn't enough space for them to sit with out touching the top case. I found the original steamdeck sticks very slipper and slick so I've been using lower profile stick caps on it and of the 4 different types I have none of them will fit inside the mod case with out it touching the insides. It makes me worry about wear against the stick. So if we're traveling I pop the cap covers off before putting the top on it. Otherwise the LCD deck just sits out on its kickstand with the mod case top packed away somewhere that I'll inevitably forget the next time I need it. The kickstand also has gotten a bit looser over the time I've owned it, but it's not flappy yet. I actually put the modcase on my OLED when I got it since I don't feel the need to have stick caps on the newer sticks. However, as I had been using the skull and co for so long, I kept setting my steamdeck down like I would in the skull and co and it would inevitably fall over. After the 3rd time I decided I couldn't be trusted and my partner had to live with the stick cap issues.
Not the grip case but I really like the back button attachments skull and go offers. They really help protrude the back buttons enough to where my fingers can comfortably rest on them and push them in without clawing my fingers onto the button. They distribute the force of your fingers across the whole button so it doesn’t matter if you press towards the inside, outside, top or bottom of the attachment. They work really great imo
Brother, this is the first time I am going through your channel and I just wanna say that your contents are amazing and exceptionally thorough. Loved it. Gos bless and lots of love.
After 2 years of pre-ordering, cancelling, and watching Deck content, just went "all in" on the OLED Deck yesterday. This JSAUX case was among my numerous other preparatory buys: Official dock, screen protector, bigger storage, Gulikit Halls, a monitor for docked play at my desk - been on a laptop for years, so didn't have one - auto charger, assorting cabling (at least I already had kb+mouse and controller). Everything else is likely to arrive before the Deck+dock themselves. Good to know the case I picked is okay!
Filthy Ally user here, the Skull & Co grip for the Ally improves the ergonomics so much! Brings it much closer to the feel of the Deck. That they make a case to fit it with the grip just seals the deal!
One more case that I believe deserves a chance is the Unicorn Beetle case it may just be my favorite case. Out of all the cases I have, I go back to it the most. It does add some weight, but it feels great in the hands, and it fits in the official carrying case, albeit a little snug.
Really appreciate your videos man, been subbed a long time now. Just bought the JSAUX case for 50NZD (30USD) after watching this 🙂 The deckmate adapter is very expensive due to shipping to New Zealand unfortunately though, cost more than the products themselves at about 30USD.
I might consider the jsaux one, I bought one of their carrying cases that has more room (so I can store a foldable keyboard and the Deck's charger internally) and have been very pleased with it
I've got the Skull & Co., with the Adhesive Mount from Mechanism gives a great combo with kickstand or battery. And with two mounts, both at the same time.
A pro of the Skull & Co I don’t think you mentioned is the weight. It barely adds any. Also the convenience of putting down your Deck standing up is underrated.
I’d love to see more of the Legion Go accessories, your video I think was the only one that mentioned the uncomfortable sides, it’d be cool to see if there are new options that fix that
I have the JSaux Mod Case and Skull and Co one. I really liked the JSaux Mod Case initially, but over time the kickstand got loose and no longer functioned as one. I ended up switching to the Skull and Co one and I've been using it ever since. It's easy to take off and on, it feels nice and comes in different colors, and being able to prop it on a table since the case is a kickstand is nice without having to do anything. I also bought the official Skull and Co carrying case to go with it for travel and it's been what I've been using.
The easy take on/off is such a selling point to me. I don't usually use cases on my devices to protect them (only carrying cases when traveling) but otherwise I'm careful with them and like enjoying it directly. The Steam Deck hurts my hands with its buttons so close to edge so I decided to order the Skull and Co (don't have it yet). Being able to remove it and put it back on easily is a strangely big selling point to me. I hope it provides enough extra handle to help the grip be more comfortable! That's my only concern
I'm convinced Russ just watches us and finds what we're thinking about then makes a vid about it. I was just looking for a case like the Killswitch but cheaper and in comes this video.
I bought the cheapest case I could find about a year ago and never took it off; it works perfectly. It fits the dock plus the official case, feels great, and protects it while not looking fugly.
The cover of the jsaux made me choose it. I can just plop it into my backpack without the bulky bags specifically used for steamdeck, plus the added bonus of connecting a hub on the back
One thing worth mentioning here, is that the mod case has significantly more mods than the Dbrand one such as their own power bank, cooler (useful for overclocking), and m.2. Personally, I found the cooler very useful in overclocking the TDP of the Steam Deck (at my own risk of course) whilst keeping the deck at reasonable temperatures.
Favorite combo at home : jsaux case (without the cover) + skullandco carry case. When travelling : jsaux case and cover + bigger carry case (spigen or cheap amazon brand)
I have a full skin so the coving co looks beautiful on my steam tank and also it’s not a heavy case so the console still feels nice and light. It also fits perfectly inside the Tomtoc carry case. Oh, and I love the grips. It really is perfect. Purple is the best.
i use the skull and co one ,it's so convenient to not have to move a kickstand to prop the deck, and it just looks way better in my opinion, it's much cleaner than the jsaux or killswith grips. And the raised volume buttons are a nice addition too. I like that the case doesnt get in the way of R1 and L1 too.
The other reason for the kickstand on the Jsaux one is the fact that some people with their steam decks would be using the other type of dock so instead of laying the system flat down you could just have it stand up with just the kickstand.
I have the killswitch for my SD and Ally, i do love them both but cheaper alternatives are a great thing. Tbh the kickstands for both are the worst parts.
Oh nice. I was looking into a Dock for steam deck with a cooling fan option.. still on the fence about picking one. But it's getting very hot if I have it on higher CPU speeds and attempt games with Frame Generation on JSAUX had a cooling fan in one of their previous Mod Case pack 🤔 Spiderman Remastered etc recently updated with newer FSR options. And of course many of Russ' viewers have the CryoUtilities adjustments.
I've got the JSAUX case with their case fan (uses the strap slot to hug the case and fan vent nicely). I think they've also got a stand alone cooler but not sure how well it will work with some cases. It's nice for that extra bit of cooling when docked or playing a more intensive game without it being super hot when you're done. I do find myself missing the feel of the Dbrand one when I use the JSAUX one but haven't ever used it long enough to get used to it and forget.
I've got the Skull & Co Grip Case and I think it's excellent. I've used one for the Steam Deck and the ROG Ally. I debated the Killswitch, but I don't like the idea of having to basically force it onto the SD. The Grip Case is great cuz it pops right on and doesn't move.
I have a different JSAUX case that I really like. It's similar to the mod case, but the kickstand is more adjustable and non-removable, and the texture on the grip area is different. It's really cheap. They call it Protective Standing Case for Steam Deck.
I've had several cases for mine but settled in the skull & co one. It's cheap, the fit is good and it still fits inside my slim case with the grip on. The angle it sits at isn't great but I feel it isn't really for gaming but I use it a lot with keyboard & mouse. Another product Skull & Co makes for the deck (and Switch) is their dock with removable core drive. Essentially the ports detach as a mini dock / hub for travel... Really nice bit of kit. The new Jsaux dock kind of riffs on the same idea but in a bulkier form factor.
I have both, I got the Jsaux originally but with the floppy kickstand and the extra weight I found it to be not great. If you want it for the front cover it's great value tho. I'm using the Skull&Co one now and while it's not perfect, I find it to be the best compromise between weight, comfort and protections.
I still love my JSAUX mod case for my Steam Deck. Fits in my Steam Deck TomToc bag with the travel cover on it. Yeah, the stand doesn't go very far but I only use the stand if I put it into desktop mode and use a controller or if I plug-in a mouse and keyboard. I bought the mod case when it first launched (I got the option that came with an external fan that is now useless because Valve updated the fan controls months ago *sigh* but that's ok), and it replaced my dBrand Killswitch. I don't dislike the Killswitch but I just like the JSAUX case better for the cheaper price and I do use the travel cover that came with it often and it's such a pain to remove the travel cover from the Killswitch
Tight budget is true but I got a lot of value out of my Skull & Co grip case. I got mine with the EDC Case all for around $25 and for the price I got myself: A skull and Co gripcase A skull and Co EDC Case (an alternative slimmer steam deck carrying case) A Jsaux set of tempered glass screen protectors.
Skull and co grip case is great. Very comfy, built in stand. I use this with either skull and co thin carry case or the spigen armored case, depending on if I want to take a few items with me. I’ve personally never liked the stock case that comes with the deck. Also the skull and co grip case fits well on the Jsaux 6 in 1 dock.
A little disappointed that you didn't bring out the dbrand travel cover to compare it with the Jsaux one. I've heard the Jsaux cover feels a lot cheaper and a lot more loose than the dbrand cover but supposedly dbrand cover does fit over the Jsaux case (or so I've heard anyways) and offers more protection over the Jsaux cover. Great video as usual though and thanks for doing the comparison!
To me, comfort is the primary concern, and regarding that, neither the Killswitch or Mod Case can compare to the Skull & Co case. The guys who were in charge of the ergonomics must be wizards because holy shit, it fits so nicely in my hands on the spot, whereas with the other two I always had to adjust for ten seconds before doing anything. Not to mention the weight, I don't think the Skull & Co is lighter that the other two cases, but somehow they feel much more unwieldy. The Skull & Co adds some weight, sure, but at least I don't feel like I could bludgeon someone to death with my Deck. Also, the soft rubber and looseness are much better than the hard rubber and tight fit on the Mod Case. When I took off the Mod Case I thought I would scratch my Deck because it was so tight. If I had to rate the three of them, the Skull & Co would be first place, the Mod Case would be a not too close but not too far second, and the KIllswitch a distant third. I geniunely don't get the hype about this one.
i got the JSAUX case for the Ally and i'll never buy again for the next one, the top of the case is very flappy and the case itself is heavy. ended buying the Skull & Co case and it's fits perfectly!
Ive had the killswitch on my deck since day one of getting the LCD version. Still use it to this day on my OLED. I tried using the steam deck for a while with no grip on it. I found out that I much prefer the deck with the killswitch grip. I think the JSAUX one does look like a really good option though with some good QOL options. I do think the texture of the killswitch goes a long way though. For me, I would probably get the mechanism accessories to go with the killswitch. Hard to beat the price of JSAUX though.
I started with a Killswitch, but I sold it when I tried the JSAUX. I thought the price was much better, it is lighter, and it has a richer accessory systems.
I'm really happy with the Skull case cos it's so simple. I am not looking to accessorize my SD. I agree that the way it props itself up is not optimal for gaming, I like keeping my SD upright while I'm not using it so thats how it's a perfect case for me.
i like Jsaux but i bought the back cover plate for my lcd, it came with these REALLY awesome replacement buttons to make the back buttons pop out, i staggered them so the bottom one was popped out with the short ones and the top buttons where staggered and used the larger ones. i loved hold the deck, it changed the feel for me drastically. to the point i ACTUALLY used the back buttons, but here is the kicker. i go to put it into my steam deck case. and low and behold the back buttons made it no longer fit into steam deck case. i asked customer service if their jsaux case would fit the buttons. they said yes, so i bought one. and it didn't fit the keys at all. they all pressed the big button, i was so mad and had to take off the larger buttons. i kept the case for one reason only. it fit my USB -c hub and my mouse/keyboard combo and a few SD cards... im still honestly sad i can't use the larger button because my god it made the deck feel so much better in my hands that have issues going numb after like 5 minutes of holding the deck. i was able to use my 2 middle fingers to help hold up the weight off my hand and it worked so well. so i am very sad
I have the Ally version of both of these. I bought the Jsaux first, attracted by the front cover and the straps that can click-in to hold a battery. Absolutely hated it. The lip on the top-right interfered with the B button as it was way too tall. Then bought the Skull & Co and it hasn't come off my Ally since. I also bought their thumbcaps and they are also excellent.
I got the JSAUX for my Deck because, it's cheaper, and include the front cover as I don't want to have an extra case. I personally cut craft wood peices to fill the "dock case" to use it as a stand because I haven't bought a dock since I have a USB-C hub that do the job. (I don't use the metal kickstand because the deck is already so heavy)
I've had the jsaux as well since Dec last year, used it for OLED and yeah its been a nice experience. Used it with a generic third party skin with it too. One thing to note tho, thru time, eventually the metal kickstand would eventually flake off the black paint and would reveal the silver metal on it altho the stand is still durable and not loose on mine. Everything else was solid. One time I forgot to move my deck away from my dog, from coming back I saw him clawing on the front plate. Apart from the minimal claw marks on the front plate, its pretty good for protection for sure. Dog claw guarantee lol
I have the skull&co, lightweight, you can stand still the steam deck on a table, it fits in the case. Plus ! There is no protection on triggers, which is nice. I had a case before like the killswitch, it was a nightmare to use L1/R1 I glued in the back a 3d print of a microSD holder, so I can carry 8. My only huge drawback, I can take out the microSD with the skull&co on, I have to take it out. Or I have to file the bottom slightly maybe..
I've had the JSAUX for months with no loosening of the stand. Sounds like I lucked out. Good review, I've been wondering what your take would be on these cases.
Funnily enough, "the cheap one" he has on his old LCD beats the JSAUX mod case. Having owned both, I daily drive the Mepatem. The JSAUX stand looks and feels nice since it's made out of metal but it gets in the way more than it serves as a good stand. The stand hinge broke within a week. The padding over the deck's front plate is also a downside for both the killswitch and the mod case. The sticky universal adapters are next to useless for anything that generates heat. Mechanism's 3M adhesive is far stronger. The mod case is a good idea in concept but fails in execution. Mepatem with Mechanism universal adapters is my suggested way to go for both price, comfort, and functionality.
The killswitch is too expensive to be honest, I instantly searched for the ones made by jsaux and skull and co. As they were the best alternatives, the skull and Co. Does not protect too much due to how is designed, but is great because it functions as its own stand for the console. In the end I bought the jsaux case, it came with the front cover and with the stand. The stand looses its sturdiness over time, but in the end I have no regrets, only that the Steam Deck gets too heavy
quite a damning review for Dbrand lets be honest, they are extremely expensive for what you get... the problem is it seems Dbrand has the jump on the others and that gets initial sales... like for example i dont see a jsaux case for the Ally X yet however Dbrand has one prepped and ready to go in a matter of days from now so by default i ordered one, im by no means pleased with the cost though but see it as an investment to protect my device (for the next owner ironically).
I have the skull and co and there are three things that I like that you didn't mention. (I appreciate you mentioning the price, fit, and comfort) 1. It's nice to instantly put it down so it's standing upright, as it looks great in a room standing upright. 2. It fits nicely in the steam deck case. 3. This one is probably just me, but the angle is great for playing it lying on the couch with it resting on you with the case or a larger book beneath it. This is how I usually play my deck when unwind before bed. I appreciate the video Russ!
My big concern/issue with the modcase is really just with the cover. Maybe I'm just paranoid but I don't like that you could accidentally hit the button while its in a bag or something and just run in the cover. The killswitch cover doesn't let buttons accidentally press and was the main reason I ended up opting for it vs the jsaux
Hey Russ (and Co.). Do you have any recommendations for tablets to watch things on in bed? Doesn't need crazy specs, just a nice screen and great ergonomics (not as heavy as a Steam Deck etc.).
I always wonder with cases if it doesn't damage the thing it's protecting more than if you wouldn't use one. So for instance with phone cases, they always seem to collect dirt between the phone and the case. If has been on there for a long time I always see markings around the openings of the case that can't be removed. So at the volume knob or the lenses, and the sides al around it will form tiny scratches.
Steamdeck is already big and heavy enough, I'll pass on putting a case on it. A carrying bag that actually has room for the charger, now that would be useful.
Ever since you made that video comparing steam deck shell cases with kickstands and highlighted the Mepatem for $13 they instantly sold out and then when they came back in stock the price is doubled, even on Aliexpress. I've been trying to get one ever since but not for $30
I've been using a cheap no-name case (back only, just for grip and kickstand) for my steam deck since I got it. It would be cool to have a front cover, but I don't take the SD with me. But if/when I get a retroid pocket (4? 5?!), I'm getting a front cover. Just waiting for your video on the reteoid mini & 5!
I got the skullnco grip case on all my Steam Deck and Ally and waiting for the Ally X version. Cheap, light, no need for a kickstand, and fits on a slim case. I find the killswitch excessively bulky and expensive.
I've had the Killswitch on my SD for over a year and I will say that nothing beats the grip texture. It's super satisfying. That said, I'm super glad there are good options for folks not wanting to/who can't shell out.
My favorite gaming channels since I bought my OG Ally! Question, I have an Ally X and I'm in love, but I've always been a console guy. Thinking about making my Ally X my main (and only) system. I have been researching eGPU's so I can buy all of my games from steam and still be able to play them on my TV (docked mode). These eGPU's are expensive to say the least. Ideally, like you said in your review about the OneX GPU, I'd be buying one that will last longer than just for the Ally X something compatible with whatever is next, OCulink, USB 5, etc., I was going to go with the OneXGPU but I just found out about the new SGWzone eGPU.. have you seen this thing?? Its got a full RTX 4060 inside, and easy upgradable to OCulink, and they're working on USB 5 upgrade for when its here (aka this gives you options for lets say next gen steam deck, ally 2, etc). This could be a one stop shop for making your handheld replace a full PC. Maybe I'm mistaken, I've only been in handheld PC world for about 12 months. Love to hear your thoughts, or a review on SGWzone!!! I just want to buy my games in one place, and play AAA titles and more on TV and docked with PS5 like performance.. too much to ask?
OK, you've convinced me to dress up my OLED Steamdeck. Thinking of going with a skin and the JSAUX. DBrand has a lovely vegan leather design that just looks so cool. But I'm having no luck finding a front-only $15 skin option like your OLED sports (it makes no sense to me to skin the back if I'm putting a case over it.) Did DBrand do away with that option?
I reeeally like that JSAUX case and have been eyeing it for a while, but that kickstand always looked so flimsy. Thats mostly what's held me back so far
I've tried both of these and wasn't impressed by either. Both had a way looser fit than the Killswitch, which was a dealbreaker for me. I can't stand feeling the case wiggle/move around as I'm playing. The Modcase actually audibly squeaked on the right side when pressing the face buttons. It drove me nuts! I tried for a replacement and it wasn't any better. I ended up biting the bullet and buying the Killswitch and haven't looked back.
One thing worth mentioning is that the skull and co grip actually fits inside the carry case that comes with the steam deck. So if you want a grip but don’t wanna buy a bigger travel case, for less than £20/$20 it’s a pretty solid deal
It barley fits inside my OLED factory case. I heard it fits non OLED just fine.
Strange, it fits in my OLED case without any issues, do you have the one with the removable liner?

Is it lighter than the jsaux (w/o the cover?)
@@markmanalang4991 yes. it’s probably the lightest quality case.
Love my Skull and Co. and really feel no need to try any other case. Bonus that it fits in the Steam Deck carrying case with no issue for me.
Bob sent me over. Subbed and liked some videos. Best of luck buddy :)
Bob sent me here too. Nintendo are pricks
I have the JSAUX and it's amazing for the price. My stand though is still pretty solid after 1 year it hasn't loosened on me.
I ended up buying the Mepatem with the magnetic stand because the JSaux did not fully cover the trigger buttons.
When travelling : jsaux case and cover + bigger carry case (spigen or cheap amazon brand)
got to rewatch these vids for the second screen factor. dope as the sd needs protection!
I have a full skin so the coving co looks beautiful on my steam tank and also it’s not a heavy case so the console still feels nice and light. It also fits perfectly inside the Tomtoc carry case. Oh, and I love the grips. It really is perfect. Purple is the best.
Love the KS on my SD, I see dBrand released one for the Rog Ally, I hope the Legion GO is next!
They probably wont make one for the Legion GO because of the detachable sticks
i use the skull and co one ,it's so convenient to not have to move a kickstand to prop the deck, and it just looks way better in my opinion, it's much cleaner than the jsaux or killswith grips.
I don't have a Steam Deck yet, but I definitely think the JSAUX is the way I'll go once I bite that bullet.
I have the killswitch for my SD and Ally, i do love them both but cheaper alternatives are a great thing. Tbh the kickstands for both are the worst parts.
Oh nice. I was looking into a Dock for steam deck with a cooling fan option.. still on the fence about picking one. But it's getting very hot if I have it on higher CPU speeds and attempt games with Frame Generation on
JSAUX had a cooling fan in one of their previous Mod Case pack 🤔
Spiderman Remastered etc recently updated with newer FSR options.
The JSAUX grip fits in the original carrying case too! (without the top cover)
I have a different JSAUX case that I really like. It's similar to the mod case, but the kickstand is more adjustable and non-removable, and the texture on the grip area is different.
It's really cheap. They call it Protective Standing Case for Steam Deck.
I got the mepatem one fron your last video and its really great
I've had several cases for mine but settled in the skull & co one.
I found that my favorite case for the Steam Deck so far is the Satisfy Grip case
I got mine with the EDC Case all for around $25 and for the price I got myself:
A skull and Co gripcase
A skull and Co EDC Case (an alternative slimmer steam deck carrying case)
A Jsaux set of tempered glass screen protectors.
I've used both and I prefer the jsaux. It fits in the included steam case but I use the cover way more because it takes up less room in my bag.
I have had the Jsaux for close to a year. No issues from me. The hard cover has protected my Deck from my newborn many times 😅.
I’ve had my jsaux kickstand on for more than a year and the hinge is still tight, no issues
i like Jsaux but i bought the back cover plate for my lcd, it came with these REALLY awesome replacement buttons to make the back buttons pop out, i staggered them so the bottom one was popped out with the short ones and the top buttons where staggered and used the larger ones. i loved hold the deck, it changed the feel for me drastically. to the point i ACTUALLY used the back buttons, but here is the kicker. i go to put it into my steam deck case. and low and behold the back buttons made it no longer fit into steam deck case. i asked customer service if their jsaux case would fit the buttons. they said yes, so i bought one. and it didn't fit the keys at all. they all pressed the big button, i was so mad and had to take off the larger buttons. i kept the case for one reason only. it fit my USB -c hub and my mouse/keyboard combo and a few SD cards... im still honestly sad i can't use the larger button because my god it made the deck feel so much better in my hands that have issues going numb after like 5 minutes of holding the deck. i was able to use my 2 middle fingers to help hold up the weight off my hand and it worked so well. so i am very sad
JSAUX as Jay-so? That's a new one is that how you're actually supposed to pronounce it?
Yeah, I always figured the X was meant to be silent. Like in faux
I have both but Skull and Co is waaay more comfortable, also fits in the oled case.
I have the skull&co, lightweight, you can stand still the steam deck on a table, it fits in the case.
Plus ! There is no protection on triggers, which is nice. I had a case before like the killswitch, it was a nightmare to use L1/R1
I glued in the back a 3d print of a microSD holder, so I can carry 8.
My only huge drawback, I can take out the microSD with the skull&co on, I have to take it out.
Or I have to file the bottom slightly maybe..
Skull and Co is always good quality. Although I like the teal silicone case I got on the cheap.
I've had the JSaux since they released that cover - took it off last week to do a bit of cleaning and the bare steam deck felt weird 😂
I love my Jsaux stuff I have bought for my steam deck
The killswitch is too expensive to be honest, I instantly searched for the ones made by jsaux and skull and co. As they were the best alternatives, the skull and Co. Does not protect too much due to how is designed, but is great because it functions as its own stand for the console. In the end I bought the jsaux case, it came with the front cover and with the stand. The stand looses its sturdiness over time, but in the end I have no regrets, only that the Steam Deck gets too heavy
Another great video! Wanted to ask though. What are your thoughts on the new retroid pocket 5? The price and amoled look pretty good.
quite a damning review for Dbrand lets be honest, they are extremely expensive for what you get... the problem is it seems Dbrand has the jump on the others and that gets initial sales... like for example i dont see a jsaux case for the Ally X yet however Dbrand has one prepped and ready to go in a matter of days from now so by default i ordered one, im by no means pleased with the cost though but see it as an investment to protect my device (for the next owner ironically).
I have the jsaux case, but I have the killswitch that I got almost immediately after, I personally love the killswitch much better
No sd card holder no deal... that's personally why I bought the killswitch as a power user.
I have the skull and co and there are three things that I like that you didn't mention. (I appreciate you mentioning the price, fit, and comfort)
I'm rocking the Jsaux set and love using the front protector. Now, where can we get a front protector for the Odin 2??
Hey Russ (and Co.). Do you have any recommendations for tablets to watch things on in bed? Doesn't need crazy specs, just a nice screen and great ergonomics (not as heavy as a Steam Deck etc.).
would love a video on cases for the rog ally x :)
I always wonder with cases if it doesn't damage the thing it's protecting more than if you wouldn't use one. So for instance with phone cases, they always seem to collect dirt between the phone and the case. If has been on there for a long time I always see markings around the openings of the case that can't be removed. So at the volume knob or the lenses, and the sides al around it will form tiny scratches.
will any of the screen/travel covers fit the skull grip?
Russ do you know when you are going to get a rp5 for review. Just ordered mine gc purple can't wait to see your review before release
I have the Satisfye Stylth Bundle and I love it! Kinda of $$$.
I got the skullnco grip case on all my Steam Deck and Ally and waiting for the Ally X version. Cheap, light, no need for a kickstand, and fits on a slim case. I find the killswitch excessively bulky and expensive.
Hi Russ I just wanted to know if you’d recommend these for the OLED model as well…
I've had the Killswitch on my SD for over a year and I will say that nothing beats the grip texture. It's super satisfying. That said, I'm super glad there are good options for folks not wanting to/who can't shell out.
Does the J saux fit in the original steamdeck carry case?
I just want to buy my games in one place, and play AAA titles and more on TV and docked with PS5 like performance.. too much to ask?
i got the jsaux GRIP case rather than the mod case, which fits snugly in the standard deck case.
The only thing I dislike on the killswitch is that the usb port cutout dont fit most 90 angled cables.
Skull&Co easily the best case
OK, you've convinced me to dress up my OLED Steamdeck.
Thinking of going with a skin and the JSAUX. DBrand has a lovely vegan leather design that just looks so cool. But I'm having no luck finding a front-only $15 skin option like your OLED sports (it makes no sense to me to skin the back if I'm putting a case over it.) Did DBrand do away with that option?
I reeeally like that JSAUX case and have been eyeing it for a while, but that kickstand always looked so flimsy. Thats mostly what's held me back so far
I have the Killswitch and the Skull grip and without question prefer the Skull and Co one - I don't feel or sense the lip at all.
