This piece doesn't mention the first family of the house. My grandfather, Joseph Palma, built the house, and he and his children, including my mother, moved into it in 1930. They sold it to the Nortons in the 1950s. My grandfather was Italian American, and we think of him as the original godfather. He worked for Henry Ford, and her serve three terms as Borough President of Staten Island. I have vivid memories of the house, which he sold when I was a child.
"and we think of him as the original godfather" Eh... for financial purposes, I can see that. But you don't seriously envy that title, do you? If so, you are a fool.
The anchor (Greg Kelly) of course is the son of former NYC Police Commissioner, Ray Kelly. Greg was also a Marine Corps fighter pilot before going into the news business. Yes, his banging was annoying but as long as there is no damage to the films, I say let bygones be bygones, kapisch?
How delightful to see the "behind the scenes" setting of the location of the filming of my very best favorite movie of all time! After viewing this video, I'm going to have to watch The Godfather again now (for the umpteenth time)! Both the Palmas and the Nortons enjoy(ed) a fabulous home!
I would of said hey fuck head, you tap on those film cases one more time,I will beat the shit out of you in front of all the people watching this across the country and everybody in the studio . Stunod!!
The film planning crew considered my college friend’s family house in Manhasset for the Corleone house. They loved it, but rejected it because the ceilings were too low. His dad was a lawyer for the Genovese family.
Mr./Ms. Palma (Frisneraugustin above), what a Marvellous Home. It must have been something serious to have made Your Grandparents sell it. I am glad You added your comments here, it adds so much credence to the Movie knowing that indeed, a Italian American had built and owned/lived in the House that will forever be associated with the "Godfather" movie. These comments are left by a Canadian of Irish/Scot's background, but a big fan of the Movie, an an appreciator of fine 80 year old homes.
My grandparents lived DIRECTLY across the street. Not across the street and 'one house over', etc. but DIRECTLY. The mansion was always in straight, head on view through their front windows. Years later, not too many blocks from 110 Longfellow Road, the real Godfather, Paul Castellano, built his 'White House' on Benedict Road. He used to order pizza from Joe & Pat's. I delivered there a few times, but he always had someone else answer the door. Unlike John Gotti, Big Paul practiced keeping a very low profile. Unfortunately, that didn't do him much good when they bugged his house. lol
Yes, I agree. What's up with the constant banging of the film cases. What a jerk. Even a child would know better than to do that. I did enjoy watching this video though. Never knew anything about the house except for what I saw in the movie. Thanks for posting this.
He was probably upset because since it was his interview he asked if they could show parts of the film in his interview and he refused so that's why he was banging them like a baby
i just came back form that house. i spend all day friday in there. i have to say now im very proud to own a brick from the godfather house. the house is under remodeling. the entrance is gone. cement and rocks are everywhere. i took a lot of pictures. i have bag full of dirt from the house, leaves, etc............what a day. my life is complete. thanks.
there is only one small problem with this film, my wife tells me Ive watched it over 100 times, thats okay we are talking about the God Father, there is no better of a movie then this. This house holds many many stories behind those walls
I grew up playing in Vito genovese home, after he went to prison ,he donated to our church, and they turned it into a thrift shop, wnen I was a kid we used to hide in all his hidden staircases, and in the basement all the local houses were connected with tunnels that were left over from the civil war,if the cops ever raided his home he would be down the street in a matter of minutes.pretty cool !!!
That's funny because my Grandmother (Millie Previtera) Joseph Palma and I even remember buying several Fords from his dealership on Castleton Avenue and Rector St. Also remember him as Boro Pres. and even have an old brochure from the late 40's early 50's about S.I. with a forword by your Grandfather. Bob
I can imagine it might get a-bit annoying sometimes having such an iconic house, well if it’s anything like the home alone house, they probably get people who take pictures all the time.
wow THAT is frking amazing that Coppola or producers allowed his mom to film on 8 mm while the actual Godfather scenes were being filmed in and around that S Island home. Now I gotta find out if her son did ever try and sell those cannisters!
People Apparently don’t know anything about television. I guarantee those are not the 8mm tapes. Those are kept in a safety deposit box why would they bring them out to the studio? Those were just tape boxes.
What was with the news anchor banging the film reels? Was he pissed at the guy or something? I can understand accidentally banging them once but multiple times looks intentional. I would’ve asked that pos to stop that!
The things you never know or think about. It’s still a beautiful home that has “stayed in the family”. Wish this guy would stop banging these priceless film containers around.
Paramount Pictures probably couldn't force that lady to have him on her property, so I guess it was either that or no Luca Brasi in the wedding scene. A little bit like when you're at a party and the food is disgusting and you insult some stranger to cope with the situation, but it happens to be the host.

Have you read "The Sicilian" by Mario puzo ?
Wow
"and we think of him as the original godfather"
Eh... for financial purposes, I can see that. But you don't seriously envy that title, do you? If so, you are a fool.
@@Rutherford_Inchworm_III 😂
Nice thing but do you have any proof of this
Excuse me while I slam your priceless movies around on the table.
Never underestimate the power and impact of the American filmmaker. A lovely story.
I want those films so badly. I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse!
aw ma aw man
Love it. Good one :)
He already sold it to me. I can't tell u how much money was involved.
Hope those home movies were transferred to digital.
Videos like this are why I love TH-cam.
PLEASE release those home movies so we all can see them. This would be such a contribution to cinema history. Please, please.
Everytime the anchor bangs around those 8mm film cans, I wanna reach through the monitor and throttle his neck. Those are historic artifacts, dammit!
The films might not even be in the canisters, Sonny!!
I found that to be disrespectful myself... But it's nothing personal it's just business
Fuuggett about it
I was thinking the same thing. Although I liked his news piece, I lost all respect when he tapped on the canister the last time.
Why doesn't the anchor man just go get his shine box and bang on that?

Not lying being 100% honest that my aunt lives across the street from this house. It's a beautiful neighborhood. I love being there.
Is your aunt single?
@@junkiejackflash Ha! No, I'm afraid not She has been married for about half a century. (She is 80 years old) ^-^
@@LaurenThompsonIsMyRealName does she have grand daughter
@@emreyigit4103 lol nope. She has two grand sons.
@@LaurenThompsonIsMyRealName hmm. Let me think about it.
Great piece. That dude has a fortune in memorabilia
WOW that's AWESOME she filmed behind the scenes I'd love to see the film of that also
That's cool. It would be cool to include that footage in a special edition DVD that has all the cut scenes put back in.
5:25 his family runs a painting company!!!; does that mean "he paints houses"
Lol! I see what you did there! Very clever 👌😉
The Irishman

Very good ... veeerrrry good indeed :)
Amazing. Thank you for this clip!
I love how they honor the novel and it wasn't a "big mansion" it was actually several houses.
banging on those reels, he obviously never had the makings of a varsity athlete
LOL. I see what you did there. LOL
I would of said hey fuck head, you tap on those film cases one more time,I will beat the shit out of you in front of all the people watching this across the country and everybody in the studio . Stunod!!
Why was the anchor for jolting the film reels like they weren't fragile?
because hes a douche bag
THE BEST MOVIE OF THE WORLD!!!
A fantastic story, thank you so much for sharing your story - the film is my all time favourite. 😃👌👏👏👏❤️
The film planning crew considered my college friend’s family house in Manhasset for the Corleone house. They loved it, but rejected it because the ceilings were too low. His dad was a lawyer for the Genovese family.
Lenny Montana was a real mafioso. The mother had a lot of guts to talk to him that way. Great story.
hey she s from boston
brainwashed
It's her home. she can talk the way she wants to anybody
He was a pro wrestler
A proper man doesn’t show his anger to a woman, she was never in trouble
Anyone know if they ever released what was on those 8mm tapes?
many many many years later.. hes still banging those reels! dammit
I know Ed Norton , he really is a great person . The Godfather is my #1 movie of all time .

Luca was a real wiseguy just as some of the other.
The wedding cake was from Alfonso’s bakery! ;)
It was from Oven Bake in Port Richmond.

Someone tell me why the presenter keeps waving those tapes around and bashing them together?
NORTON! Every time I hear that name I think of Jackie Gleason yelling it at Art Carney in "The Honeymooners".

I have copies of the Godfather movies and would not part with them for anything.
It's great that the house went to Frankie Pentangeli

Wowser. Great. Very cool😊😊
And Ed's mom was really smart...
His name was Luca Brasi...not Luke Abrasi. He kept saying it that way during the lead-in to his interview.
I’m sure this question was already asked, but did the Norton Family ever make those home movies public? I think it would be so very fun!
they never did..instead they sold it to another family in auction
im not american but me too love this movie so much!!!

I'm shocked Ed Norton never mentioned his old pal Ralph Kramden.
Didn't Ed Norton play in Primal Fear and American History X?

Wow...what a great story....that cue card...holy shit....that's gotta be worth a butt load of $$$
I want to take some pictures that, in front of the house, is that legal?
paul castellano lived down the block in real life. todt hill staten island
Castellano lived on Toad Hill, this was shot on Emerson hill
Anthony Gronock tommy balatti was his driver the night he got whacked...
The nephew of gambino family boss Paul Castellano was Richard Castellano. He was the actor that portrayed Peter Clemenza.
Isn't it Longfellow Avenue, not road?
Somebody needed to reason with the anchor.
Amazing!!

I think the godfather *made him an offer he can not refuse*
Ed Norton the Third? Didn’t his dad use to live in Bensonhurst?

That scene when he died hurt me to my soul
Then they said " cut" and he stood back up . U need a tougher soul.
I’m surprised he didn’t take out a reel and started holding it up to the light. Huh I’ve never seen 8 mm by the light
Those were an empty 8mm cans actually. He banged them just to hit the first auction prise. It was intentionally.
Let’s see the film!!
someday I'll travel to Lake Tahoe to pay my respects
I’m having a hard time imagining Montana being so apologetic during the autograph story. But that just makes it more interesting

Wow Cool.

Did he end up releasing the behind the scenes footage his mother filmed? If so can you guys send me the link in your reply to this comment please..
Saying that evil monster obama likes this film will ruin it now for everyone!!!
Did Obama see the movie in Jakarta-where he lived until 1985- in 1972?
