Where can we buy this clay? I'm having a hard time finding the exact product you're using.
Does the rain wash off the clay?
@@did_I_hurt_you_feefeesYou can find it at Grow it naturally for $54.75
Yeah. I was wondering that also!
Have you ever tried Basalt rock dust? has similar properties for bugs but also adds a ton of minerals that increase yield, stress resistance, ( drought, wind, cold and heat).
Tuck is obviously more intelligent than many humans (who don't eat carrots...) Love it!
I remember watching your channel years ago and you’ve inspired me a lot. I’ve went from tomatoes and zucchini to cucumbers, watermelon, strawberry and sweet potatoes Ty for giving me courage to grow my garden ❤️❤️❤️
Half of gardening is learning what you can grow with success. I try everything. 😆
James, that tutorial about Kaolin clay was very helpful. Thank you for your efforts to educate and encourage us home gardeners. 💕🥰😍♥️🤗🤩 For the Young King.
Hi!! What’s Kaolin clay for? I’m looking for the white kind of paint that you can paint your trees to protect from ants 🐜 etc!!
@@user-yq4rv9ox1s Kaolin is a type of clay. In this case, it is finely ground to be mixed in water and sprayed on plants to keep insects away. I don't know what the paint is.
@@user-yq4rv9ox1sThat's the stuff he's talking about
@@user-yq4rv9ox1s You want whitewash or lime wash. You need hydrated lime for it, which has gotten really hard to get for a reasonable price. I think you might be able to special order it from Ace. Note it is not the same as garden lime.
@@user-yq4rv9ox1s Limewash. You need hydrated lime which is hard to find now, for some reason, might be able to get it from Ace. Its different than garden lime.
Tuck is looking grayer than I remember. Pets age so fast… he seems like a beautiful friend - give him some good hugs and kisses. And your garden tips are useful as always. Sending good vibes.
I garden, but I need a new place that has no WIRE GRASS...I see no way to keep gardening; wire grass is impossible to deal with now that ime inmy 70'a. I may otherwise have do greenhouse only. Wiregrass even has been cutting into the asphalt road, that is one good name for it!
My 3 apple trees benefit from a wild bee colony in the abandoned church building next to my ground. But the wasps and even some ot the honeybees eat these yellow delicious.😢 An official govt beehive guy told me that bees in our country are seriously challenged! Tuck gives me the smile...reminds me of a dog named Tuck in OR. that had such zest and I miss.
James I think many of us would be interested and greatful if you did decide to resell smaller amounts of Surround clay. Thanks for all you do!
Oh yes I ♥️ seeing Tuck with you out checking on the garden! Adorable 🥰
Tuck's a very good boy, who eats his veggies. 😊
I Love Tuck! He’s the reason I started feeding carrots to my Yorkie. And she Loves them so much & it’s so much better than buying treats a the store that aren’t healthy.
I ordered that same bag surround a few months ago because of you mentioning it other videos. I was just about to have to look up more info about it so I could use it and there your video was. Perfect. Thanks James P also. My buddy boy now eats many vegetables with me in the garden because of Tuck. ❤
The tutorial about the clay was very useful. I've been wanting to try it, but the cost is prohibitive. Not the cost of the clay, the cost of the shipping! I hope that as more people start using this, it will show up in local stores. 🐶💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Local garden centers and hardware stores? I'll go in and ask for specifics like bird seed without shinny glyphosate sprayed on the bird seed. They really get interested when customers are disappointed. They look into the products when they've never heard of it. It's worth a try. Shipping costs are through the roof, even for seeds.
Yes, the 25lb bag itself is around $55, and then to ship it UPS ground is close to $30, while Priority mail is almost $60! 😳 The only way I can see myself purchasing this would be if I can find a local resource.
If pests come well before pollinators it would work. Or maybe only use it on self pollinating plants? Anybody got any good suggestions?
@@onetransmission7871 I think you aren't supposed to use the surround clay until after the blossoms have been pollinated and the fruit is growing. Maybe try a safe pesticide? Then use the surround clay?
@@NubianP6 And you don't often get the base rate for shipping, they want shipping and handling from the place where you buy it. The lowest I have found is $50!
I've been wanting a link to buy this from you for so long. I wouldn't be buying it if it weren't for you, along with a million other things you have taught me. ❤❤❤❤❤❤ For Tuck.
Last year I had serious issues with squash beetles and with “holey” eggplant leaves, to the extent that I had zero harvest. A local master gardener recommended the kaolin clay-and this year, I’m using it on all my squash, eggplant, and watermelon. Thanks for reinforcing what was mentioned to me earlier-I’m expecting to actually have healthy plants and a decent harvest this year. James, thanks for all that you and Tuck do!
I always have that issue with my eggplant. I think I'll give it a try!
Let us know how it works out! I'm in zone 8a.
@@jessrob0205 I am in Zone 8a (Atlanta GA Metro) as well. The kaolin clay works quite well! I did two treatments spaced two weeks apart on all my squash, eggplant, and watermelon. No squash bugs--I did find one squash beetle on one plant (which I of course killed by hand) and a very slight amount of damage, but after treating with the clay there was not a recurrence. Nice to not see ANY eggs or larvae on the underside of my squash leaves--very different from last year. The eggplant leaves look better than ever. I've already harvested one ichiban eggplant, and the black beauty eggplant has a ton of flowers. As others have commented, the 25 lb bag of kaolin clay isn't cheap ($50 plus just over $40 to ship from the West Coast), but IMHO is worth every penny for its effectiveness and the fact I'll be able to use it for many years going forward.
James been waiting for you to do this video so I could understand how to use the Kaolin clay, thank you for sharing, this could. Be a game changer in gardening. Good to see you and Tuck.
I’ve seen a bunch of people using it lately. You’re influencing people to use it! A gardening pioneer in New Jersey! But Tuck is still the Boss!! For Tuck❤❤❤❤❤❤

Hi James, I've been waiting for you to do this video. Great info
Now I know how use it thanks for all the hard work you do & Tuck ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you James and Tuck! Purchased the clay and Huskvarna sprayer and will be heading out to the garden tonight to begin spraying. ❤❤❤❤❤
❤️🤗 for Tuck. It’s so good to have a helper in the garden.
I just ordered the Surround Kaolin clay. Thanks for the link!
Ohhhhh.. THAT magic white powder. Whew. This video took a turn I wasn’t expecting.
Sorry, it was low hanging fruit (pun intended). I had to do it.. I’ve watched too many of your videos to not know it was about kaolin before I watched.. great content, as usual.
😂 Even low-hanging fruit needs to be picked!

Tuck is amazing and so good that he loves his organic veggies. James, you are doing an incredible job teaching us and taking so great care of Tuck. Thank You for everything you do 😊
💜🧡💜🧡💜 Love you, Tuck!! And thank you, James, for all your advice and information!! You've been so helpful for this first time gardener!!
❤❤❤❤❤Tuck! Thanks for the classy demo. I needed it.
Thanks for sharing this Surround WP product
This was great James and Tuck! Year one for my raised bed food garden and will spray once the surround arrives in the post!
Appreciate you sharing your knowledge. Just what I needed as a beginner. Love seeing Tuck around the garden 💖💖💖💖😊
As a fellow Jersey gardener - I ONLY tune in to see Tuck! ♥♥♥
Thank you James for the education!! Picking up a bag!! Love to see little Tuck in the garden❤❤❤❤❤
I've known about kaolin clay for squash vine borers, as a powder on the stem. But, thank you so much for this video, and all the uses of kaolin clay. I sprayed last night, peaches, squash, watermelons, cucumber and loofah seedlings. It rose to 99 today, and they were not distressed! Thanks to you, I think I'll get zucchini for the first time in 5 years! Zone 7b, we have every pest under the sun. Hugs to Tuck.
I would also like to mention that I have sprayed my peach and nectarines twice so far, so it does last a long time. Surround has actually saved me money, since I don't need to use so many other pest management products.
All hail King Tuck, the Garden Guardian! 💚💚
❤❤❤love little Tuck!❤️❤️❤️
THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing this video! I was inspired by you to buy the Surround clay this year to try in our garden, since we have fruit trees too and have some troublesome pests like vine borers and Japanese beetles. It's so helpful to see how you use the spray in your garden!
I did NOT KNOW it was good for more than fruit! I need this NOW! You and Tuck are the BEST!! 🥰❤❤❤❤❤❤
❤❤❤❤ for another informative video and King Tuck!
Long-time user of Surround WP and my fruit trees and cucurbits are coated as pest pressure increases in our area. Be sure to use a diaphragm backpack sprayer for large-scale application as the standard piston type will clog.
When do you suggest is the best time to start? Sw Ohio we have had a lot of heat, plants are growing and we are just thinking about the pests that will probably come in now as most of my plants are just getting buds. Can’t get the KC till the 13th. Do you use any other treatments mixed treatments mixed in? James didn’t show that.
@@NatureScapesStudio I would start spraying when you can, the Surround will not interfere with photosynthesis or affect growth. I don't mix anything in and would definitely avoid surfactant (spreader sticker) as that could cause issues (learn from my mistakes).
I started using this last year after watching one of your episodes. I used it on my tomato plants because I've been infested with grasshoppers. I didn't use it early on but I do plan to do the spraying this week. Now I will use it on my whole garden.
Thank you for this! I've been wanting to know more about Kaolin clay for awhile. I just ordered some during this video. As always, you're the best! And tuck is the MAN
Love seeing Tuck he’s the best ❤❤❤
James, You and Tuck are my favorite garden guru's. Thanks for this video, I have been curious about how to use this product correctly. ♥♥♥
Just love you and Tuck and your channel. You are so sweet and so much fun. You have wonderful videos and I love them all. Huge hug for you and pets and scratches for the King!! Love you all!
Surprised that coating doesn’t interfere with the photosynthesis process 🧐. But after fighting squash bugs and cucumber bugs every year it’s definitely worth a try.
oh my GOSH😲 The perking up was almost instant! I took screenshots, but anyone paying attention can see the difference right away. QUESTION: what if the cucumbers, squash, etc, are flowering, and we just discovered this through your vid? PLEASE HELP❣️
Thank YOUUUUUU!!!! This is the video I have been waiting for! Can’t wait to put my bag to use!
Have not had any real problems in garden last year - but if I do this year I will seriously consider trying this clay! Thanks for the lesson!
Definitely gonna try for upcoming squash season, the beetles destroyed this year's crop 👑🙌🏻❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for the data on how to use it! Hopefully you can have luck selling it in smaller amounts for us little guys on the field. 😉 You're the best! ❤❤ For Tuck!
That's what I'm working on, but still wanted to share it so people could use it if they wanted to get it in bulk cause it really helps
I saw that, so I think that's great! I always learn great things from you! Not to mention gain a lot of momentum and inspiration from you! ☺️
Thank you James!!
I have requested this video a while ago and have been waiting for it.
Great details❤❤❤❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I really appreciate your taking time to explain in detail, including all of the helpful tips for making us successful in bypassing the simple little errors that could potentially occur!! I’m one of those who, though I learn easily & fast, it makes all the difference to my memory to have things thoroughly explained!!! I guess the careful detailed explanation and your even including all of the “little” things that some might consider minor are what causes it to stick in my mind!
Means a lot to me as a new gardener - I already feel a bit overwhelmed & that I have so much to finish and learn in such a short time , so every video I don’t have to locate & rewatch or articles I don’t need to find an reread is a weight off of me -
You are very encouraging!!! (( And I ado love your little dog!! Everyone needs a gardening buddy!!! ❤))

What about using Diatomaceous Earth? PLUS.... LOVE LOVE LOVE seeing Tuck in the garden!!
Its great for big breakouts but i find it dries the leaves out too much imo. It will really reduce aphids tho as ive used it
I've recently learned that getting DE in your lungs is like getting asbestos in your lungs
I wish it worked on pill bugs :(
Diatomaceous Earth kills everything. Sucks the moisture right out of worms and can kill pollinators too. It doesn't discriminate. And things like Neem oil are also dangerous for pollinators and other creatures. It damages the endocrine systems of bees and butterflies. I plant things that attract predatory insects- they eat the insects that eat my plants. Lemon balm and marigolds have worked really well.
It takes a bit yet I have seen a decrease in them in meantime i place sand around my pots to deter them seems to work @anonanon1982
Your garden is amazing, I’m panting food for the first time this year,so thank you for advices
So worth saving the harvest 😅😉❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤thanks jp& tuck
Great instructions
Tuck!!!❤❤❤❤ Love that pup!
Hi, thank you for all the info you give.
Your gardens look great. 🌸🌱😊
If you are in Canada, whiffletree farms will sell it to the consumer! Took me a year to find a place that would sell it to me. Woohoooo!
Where is that place located in Canada
Another excellent video on organic gardening. Thank you for sharing your gardening knowledge.
I just got some! I had a hell of a time getting it here in Ontario Canada 🇨🇦 funny enough my local fruit tree supplier Wiffletree farms had it. I should have called them first
Thankful Canadian ! 😅
Thanks for the info. I looked them up.
5 kg shipped in Ontario is over $100.
The video I’ve been waiting for. My cucurbits & I face a battle every season. Without a lot of (organic) assistance, they get ravaged. Another option in the arsenal.
I use Bonide powder - works well
❤️❤️❤️Love Tuck! I also love Surround! It has saved my avocado trees here in Southern California. I’m excited to try this product with tomatoes and zucchini!
Because of you, I finally ordered some Surround Kaolin clay. The video was very helpful, because I wasn't sure exactly how to use it now that I have it. Lost almost my entire squash harvest last year to squash vine borers. I hope this helps!
Surround is impossible to find in smaller packages. You gotta buy 40lbs and it’s at least $60 with shipping.
The link he provided has 25lbs for 84.95 plus shipping. I realize it has a long shelf life but it would take me forever to get through that much. At $100 is too expensive for the average home gardener. I saw another garden channel use it he said it occurs naturally on his property.
If you buy tomato clips from Amazon, they aren’t all the same. Some have no teeth at the hinge to grip trellis string, some have poor quality control and have plastic bits that have to be removed for the clip to work. Unfortunately, all of the sellers use the same pictures so it’s impossible to know what you’re getting.
I just went through the link Here and it's listed at $84.99 I can't afford them type of prices but learning a lot bout gardening thru this channel but therr has to be a cheaper way to garden especially for person's like me who only have limited available space in my apartment to grow any thing ima bout try and find small grow seed and ones that grow faster for lettuces tomatoes greens etc..
@@ForGoodnesSakeSame here. Wish I had a couple locals to split a bag with for my small garden
I just found 1 and 5 pound bags on Amazon for like $25.00
This product in a slurry, would be as good as the ancestor's use of latex paint in white washing fruit and nut orchard trunks and branches. With the latex's ugly taste, it also provides white shading of dark barked trees (sunburned plums, cherries, ...). Insects crawling up the trees are noticed by the birds and eaten. White washing the bark and infilling spots, cracks, and pores stops insect burrowing and destroying one's trees. Kaolin white washing also stops and slows down mold, mildew, fungus, and moss infections being imported from insects and tweeties feet onto the branches. White washing the trees with kaolin clay makes for intelligent operations, and is easier to apply than latex paint sprayed on, and splashing all over the ground (not good).
One ~could~ also provide a ground white washing skirting around one's trees, out to the furtherest branches and twigs as the "drip line." The white ground would stop greater sunburn and overheating of the ground, heat strees of the tree's roots and rootlets, stopping crawling insects getting to trees, and stopping various molds etc from growing around the tree.
In our neck of Eastern Pennsylvania all the old time European gardeners applied thick coats of “whitewash”. We had big plaster brushes and would paint everything.
Wow great information. thanks!
Canadian here. After looking all over for it in Canada with no luck, I finally saw Surround at the nursery where I picked up my fruit trees back in April and sadly, I passed it over. Normally, I bag my apples (I just have a few espaliered apples so it's not too cumbersome) but this year, I missed the timing and the plum curculio got to many of them before I did. Lesson learned. Next year, I'll definitely get the Surround and give it a try.
James, you are the master! Thank you & Tuc for another great tip!
Arbico appears to have the best price ,(+shipping), right now.
Agreed, I got mine through seven springs, but Arbico was $3 cheaper.. not much, but it might add up

Love watching your channel and specially when your adorable doggie enjoys eating from your crop! ♥️🐾
❤❤❤❤ all for Tuck!
We love seeing you in the videos
What about the pollinators is it safe for them and I have dogs to
It's not an insecticide, it's only to deter insects and keep them off of whatever you spray.
Good question.
Don't spray the trees while they're in flower.
Otherwise, you're okay.
I heard him say when the petals start to fall off, spray.
How about diatomaceous earth, we use it on so many different areas of our farm including our animals 😊.
We use it all the time
I watched the white powder in your videos but don’t remember that you explained what it was before. Thank you for sharing this.
Loads of LOVE for James & TUCK! I used to see the fruit trees and other things sprayed like this in Michigan & Wisconsin when I lived there & never really knew what it was. I'm in far south Australia now and my fruit trees get blighted with leaf borers, stink bugs and even coddling moth - not to mention possums & parrots - not sure the Kaolin would stop those large varmints, but they would certainly help those other little beasts. Now, to see if I can find such a thing in my garden stores in Tasmania. Thanks for sharing - another gem in your gardening crown!
How will it affect the insects I do want? I purposely plant things like lemon balm to attract predatory insects to eat the aphids and whatnot. I don't want to harm my lacewings, ladybugs, hoverflies, and predatory wasps. I also wonder if it's ok for pollinators?
You are very lucky you have them. That’s a good question. But I would quess to not spray the flowers. He did say this was an early pest spray. So before flowering.
@@NatureScapesStudio James said to spray when the petals start to fall off of the flowers.
Mr. Prigioni you done so, so much for us. Take 1 week or 2 weeks off. Go on a vacation. Your fans will be here. Take a break. Make free time yourself and Tuck.

Wouldn't Diatomaceous Earth do the same thing with little cost? I love your video's.
I came to ask the same but thinking about it, DE doesn’t keep them from eating the plant. 🤷🏼♀️

Hey James! Appreciate the content big time. Stumbled on your channel when I was just getting back into gardening. So much of your information has helped get my garden off the ground. Harvested my first Longhorn peppers today, with Tomatos, Eggplants and Cucumbers coming in soon. We're gonna dice 'em up and eat good tonight. Definitely will look into getting some of this stuff just for precaution
I bought this last year and it was at the end of a season so I never got to use it but now that things are starting to grow I'm going to use it.
What about pollinators?
This is used before the pollinators for veggies to protect the plants, and for fruit trees after the fruit has formed so you won't be bothering the pollinators
@@jamesprigioni If cucumbers and squash are flowering, too late to spray? Fairly new gardener, thanks for helping. I love the sweet King of the Garden, Tuck rules ! much love
The major problem with this stuff is it is NOT small grower / patio grower friendly. Can't buy a 25# bag for BIG BUCKS that has to be stored for ages because I have a small space to grow. Would be helpful if you can give us alternatives.
I agree! I have been reaching to to the company to see if I could purchase it in bulk and repackage it, hopefully they will allow me to.
@@jamesprigioni I am desperate for something that can address SVB better; they are not seasonal in central TX. I wonder if you can mix smaller amounts in a large spray bottle?
I wonder if you buy the kaolin clay for face mask in small pkg if it would work, a cucumber would have to be the testing specimen.
@Willow53663 he addressed why that won't work in the beginning of the video. #1 particle size, #2 impurities in that type of kaolin clay that can hurt your plants.
@Momma_Tomma thank you ,I did hear this but thought one seed/ plant was worth a shot .
Great info! But Tuck is the star of the show. What a darling ! 💖💖💖 He knows the garden is all about snacks.😊

25lbs $89. Not in the budget.
I agree, the one downside is how much you have to buy. I am trying to reach out to them and buy it in bulk to repackage and sell in smaller quantities.
That's pretty cheap, all things considered. I don't have that right now myself, but I will be saving up for it.

Kaolin clay is the primary ingredient in Kaopectate antidiarrheal. Your product sounds pure enough to to mix in water and consume it for that purpose. I'm glad to hear about this, because last I checked that store-bought brand had added aspirin. I'm going to try this for my garden in the hot desert southwest. Thanks
