Is Biden's new Mexico border crackdown a bid for votes? | DW News

  • US President Joe Biden on Tuesday signed off on an executive order to "gain control" of the southern border with Mexico, as he looks to present a tougher stance on immigration ahead of November's US election.
The long-expected sweeping measures include a temporary closure of the border whenever arrests of illegal migrants by US Border Patrol exceed 2,500 per day.
Given current figures, the measure will therefore come into immediate effect as of Wednesday and will remain in place until the number of apprehensions drops back to below 1,500 per day.
The executive order also facilitates a swifter deportation of illegal migrants back to Mexico.
The new policy comes as US voters rank immigration as one of their top concerns ahead of November's presidential elections.

My family came to the USA in 1923 after WW1. We immigrated legally from Italy, great grandfather was held on Ellis Island because he had tuberculosis..we were held on an island with little to no medical attention back when there wasn't any medical attention, no social media to post our woes on, we didn't get interviewed by national reporters, our kids weren't given food, and education, we didn't have English and a second language (ESL) in schools, we didn't have cell phones. Things are easier now then back then, and the visa program and immigration laws were more or less the same. We didn't get government aid and housing or checks or any of that we had to work or die. People who enter now get hotel in NYC, checks, used to be Obama phones. We know your country isn't great, but if you wanna come here do it legally. You make others look bad by doing it illegally, and why come to the USA when your so proud of where your from? Support the country your in or live in the country you support, your an adult, you've already tried entering the USA, why not go somewhere else? People may say that's racist and xenophobic, but think about it realistically, if your country can't take care of you that's not another nations fault, and if you think going to another nation illegally is a smart idea is to really? Would you like it if the shoe was on the other foot? Yes we'd like help if Americans were illegally immigrating to another nation, but if we head south of the border are we getting 5 star hotels for a month free of charge? Free phones? Medical care? (Btw the US Navy sends it's medical ships on both coast to provide medical care in South America and Africa), no we wouldn't, we'd be told that how things are, share the bandaid

What you don't consider is that a lot of the immigration is due to the U.S. meddling in their countries, continued colonialism and sanctions. And instead of barking back at the immigrants, where is your bark when it comes to the corporations that continue on hiring them. Where is the crackdown on them? Immigration would come to a crawl if there wasn't any money to be handed out. And where is your bark at the two parties that are providing aid to everyone else in the world but their own citizens. You lap at the heals of the parties that do the same thing over and over and over again and you expect a different result? The hypocrisy is astounding.

Other nations fail because their governments are corrupt to a level you can barely imagine and then the people don't correct their governments they sneak away to parasitize and chew upon the foundations of functional polities.
