    I live in the U.S. I believe that at least 75% of people from the West who have never been to China think that Chinese people live in villages with water buffaloes and rice paddies, and people in the cities work in gigantic factories where they manufacture cheap knockoffs of "quality" Western goods, then go home to live in poverty. Most people have no idea what life is like in China. The few who visit are usually shocked by the level of technology and prosperity that they find in China. I strongly advice people who can't visit China to at least look at some TH-cam videos of China, for example video tours of some modern Chinese shopping malls. It's pretty eye opening. In the West, it's considered cool for a mall to have a skating rink. In China, some malls have indoor ski areas.

    I just came back from China a week ago. I was so amazed when I tried checking out from a clothing store in China. I saw only one assistant helping people checking out and was wondering how can this guy help so many people. I was holding a shopping basket with 4 pieces of dress and shirts with the hangers on. He told me to do self check out and pointed to a few checkout counter. I picked one and brought my basket in the area and immediately my total was showing up on the screen! I didn’t even need to take out the clothes to scan the barcodes. Then i just need to pay and pack my stuff and go! So convenient and easy and fast.

    It is not possible to put an expensive computer on a shopping cart here in the US simply because vandals would take that cart outside the store and vandalize it or they will push it into a river or a pond! Where I live at there are always shopping carts in the river close by my house and shopping carts get pushed far away from the store where they are being vandalized and used as children toys!

    • @typicalKAMBlover21
      @typicalKAMBlover21 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think there can be an easy solution to the vandalization. You are talking about a computer that does face recognition and gps location. The only reason that US is not adopting this, is the failure to recognize its value as a new way of super market experience. Change is needed here, too much inertia, too little willingness to innovate out of the old ways.

      China is a country where people believe in law and order and living together in cooperation. Of course there is crime. But the impulse to obey societal laws is much more deeply ingrained than in the West. For example, in the West it's common to see graffiti in all cities. "I want to express myself, so I will spray paint my name here". In China you almost never see any graffiti, because "If I spray paint my name here, it violates the rights of the guy who owns this wall. If I owned a building, I wouldn't want others to deface my walls, and so I won't do it to other people". China is not a perfect society. But there is more harmony and respect of others. "Freedom" in the West has somehow turned into "I can do whatever I want", which is a selfish concept. Real freedom is being free to do what you want, within the limits of societal bounds and respecting the freedom and rights of others.

Those people doing it at night are committing crimes of vandalism. Being free does not mean your are given free lunch. While there is a freedom of expression, you are still accountable for the consequence of your action - the basic requirement of individual responsibility. .

    Rafa, a quick socio-economic note:
    People are understandably concerned about such tech resulting in loss of jobs, but here's what actually will transpire, which is quite positive:
    1. With reduction of labor costs, there's more money to go around.
    2. As more people are available for the job market, the 40 hour workweek will be shortened to 32 or even 24 hours. So while there are fewer jobs, the shortened workweeks will result in more people being hired to do the work, thus no job loss!
    3. As there is more money to go around, people will be paid for their 24 hour workweek the same amount or more than that which was previously paid for the 40 hour workweek; thus, no reduced income!
    4. The combination of "same income" with "shorter workweek" means more time for family and friends, leisure and travel, and an overall reduction of stress for all to enjoy happier and healthier lives.
    This is the ultimate potential that modern technology has to offer to humanity.

    I chanced upon your video on China's supermarket technology in use there and amazed. Your number of subscribers means you are new here. I have yet to develop my channels, no time. Anyways, China is so advanced in use of technology for every day use. Western countries are way behind and understandable given the red tape and regulations involved. BUT Amazon was pioneering in this self shopping technology, shoppers need a card and any item picked is automatically deducted and added back if item returned. The led to Amazon Go stores. Unfortunately, Amazon is closing these stores. Then again, Amazon has no experience in food sales at supermarket level. I wonder IF we can use this technology in our own country. I will visit China soon and look into this for investment. I am more into consumer tech products, have a project or two to develop and hope to find China counterparts for this. One area that needs technology is for those street vendors, building tech stands or the like to make selling on the street easier. Worldwide it is still the same, inefficient, terrible. Once again, thanks for introducing us to this shopping technology, appreciate your well produced and enjoyable video on it. Keep up the good work.

    Now in China, the price of theft is very high, not only detention, but also the price of reputation. A few days ago, a big news appeared in China's Tiktok, and quickly made it onto the hot search rankings.This is how it happened:on a noisy street, an old man was selling apricots. A woman, under the cover of her husband's selection of apricots, secretly took four apricots into her bag and left with a smile on her face. All the passes were captured by the man sitting in the car across the street with his mobile phone, and then uploaded to Tiktok. After the hot search, the follow-up quickly arrived, and the police quickly found them. The footage of her being interrogated in the detention room also appeared. Next is a video of her apologizing and confessing in front of the people across the country. This is the price, I think their family can't hold their heads up in front of acquaintances.
    These things will feel incredible in front of Americans, right? The education of the people's sense of shame is very important. This news can also indirectly reflect how good public security is in China, because even such an insignificant matter can cause such a big sensation.

    • @xucg
      @xucg ปีที่แล้ว +10

      If this had happened in Germany, the man who took the video and uploaded it would have been prosecuted and the whole country would have called him out for invading the privacy of the woman thief.
      Nothing would have happened to the woman because she would have been the victim. She would also have made up a story about her childhood misfortune to gain widespread sympathy from society successfully. As for the old man who sold apricots, no one will talk about him.
      Yes, that's the German view of right and wrong now.

      @@xucg There is another aspect that can demonstrate how efficiently Chinese police solve cases! It's just a remote mobile camera, with the target person on the street. Ordinary netizens may not even know which city or street they are in, but the police can quickly find her just for the sake of four apricots. Perhaps it was due to the hot search that caused public outrage. In China, as long as there is a heated discussion in society, even the smallest thing is a big deal. The government will never sit idly by and will definitely give society an explanation and a result. Because the people need to see subsequent solutions.

If you change your mind how do you return and cancel an item? Can you use your shopping bags and freezer shopping bags in the trolley or do you have to bag items outside at your car? Are all meats, fish, fruits and vegetables pre packed and pre weighed? Does the smart device provide price comparisons per say 100 grams or 100 ml between different sized packages? Are there English or other translations available? One can see the future here.

  • @alexhu7939

    this is an exploratory project. My opinion is that it will not work.
    1. per cart cost is too high for it to become omnipresent
    2. Electronic device occupies too much space such the payload capacity is too much reduced
    3. Requires customers to return cart with more than necessary care to prevent damage
    4. Not technologically advanced. If you can preselect on phone all items prior to visit the store, why not develop robotic picker such that you just arrive to pick up your order at the parking lot?

    Amazon Fresh has similar stuff already in my area about 2-4 years now. We were lucky enough to be a pilot site for technology enabled groceries
    However I must say be careful of these deals on goods. I do love the fresh vegetables and other things usually locally served up. Like potatoe chip snacking companies or certain alcohol companies that have products inside Amazon Fresh. But other simple things like Pickles or P&J are way more expensive
    So as much as I love the new technology, I'm not going to pay outrageous prices for the convenience but that's just me and being frugal

    Doubt that this technology would work in the US. The homeless in LA steal and wreck shopping carts not to mention those rental scooters. So much shoplifting occurs too that stores have most of the merchandise behind glass. What does this tell you about the future of the US? Kind of envious watching this video. Everything looks upscale and advanced technology. Throughout the US, we have to endure long lines at checkout in a dumpy big box grocery store. Wish the US could get some priorities sorted out like less greed for the corporations and a better experience for the consumer.
