- So Angry! Don't loan your equipment out! This could happen to you! Come along today as I work in the shop to get the maintenance done on several machines and repair a broken Ventrac tractor!

I loaned my tractor out , it came back with a hole in radiator and beer can lodged in between seat and fender

I understand why that happens but not how. I've never returned borrowed equipment in anything but cleaner than I received it. Hell even when I rented a tractor supply trailer I touched up the paint on some rusty dings.
Yep. I borrow my buddies wood splitter. Broke the Lovejoy coupler one time. Returned it with a new one properly installed. It was missing the rubber spider before. I will sometimes change the oil on the engine before, changed the hydro filter one time. Always try to do something in return.@@SetitesTechAdventures
Nice. I let someone use a lens (I'm a photographer) it came back missing a tripod collar. They have no idea where it went or what happened to it. Amazing.

Don't lone out your equipment should be lesson 1 to all our sons. Very few people will ever treat your equipment like it's their own.
It's like the story about the rented or borrow mule! People don't care about taking care of things that they borrow!
I was just a nieve young guy when joined military, but one thing that has stayed with me since being out of the military was what we called PMCS... Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services. No matter what type of mechanical device, engine or motor, a healthy check and services on them is a huge preventitive to something going bad. Not everyone has an ATV or a riding mower or any other type of machine that you have, they may end up getting them and always good to know how2 to do maintenance on them. For those who already know how to change oil or filters, I say close your eyes come back when it comes to something you want to know, or learn or are just amused by. Good job in keeping the machines working and in top shape. Time to buy a combine wouldn't you say !!!

I stopped letting people borrow my stuff about eight years ago. I only let one person use my equipment, my son. He was raised to take care of his things, as well as others. Take care of it like it's yours and return it better than you received it.
Funny thing about lending your equipment. The other party has Zero investment in your gear. They don't feel the need to use things properly either. My ex wife's son was the worst person to loan things to. Not that he was a bad person, but he didn't know anything about stuff. He'd break things constantly. Didn't mean to, but he was a mechanical idiot. Everything of mine his mother lent to her son was trashed if, and when, he ever returned it. Now that those people are out of my life, my gear is never going to be loaned to anyone for any reason. Zero exceptions!
If your Kabota RTV is sluggish, check the spark, arrestor or particulate filter in the exhaust system. They’re known for getting clogged and causing back pressure issues.

I learned years ago from my parents to never loan out anything you've worked hard for. If its a true good friend & really needs something of mine temp, I will take the time to go do it for them, so I know my equipment/tools are treated well or I will closely supervise them LOL
I saw the new blade was on upside down. Hey… Allyn Hane has done it too. We’re human! 😂
Instead of writing on your plastic, use painters tape. Write down all the info and slap in on(make sure the surface is clean though) As far as a record of all that has been done, I use a simple 3 ring binder with plastic sleeves(so they are protected, and don't rip out) and just write everything down on a sheet of paper, which includes all the info needed from wrench or socket size, filter number and name, type of fluid, and any other repairs or maintenance I do. Oh, and on the plastic sleeve, I write down with a sharpie, like say.. 1994 Ford F-150. So thumbing through the book it's easy to find and know which one I need. At any rate, These are the things I do to keep it "Clean". A book or sleeve of records, for a new owner is usually much more preferred buy a new owner(if you ever sell it) than a lot of writing on it.
Where you wondered how to put the bolt back in where the welded nu broke off, either weld another nut up on it, or put a nut-cert in the hole.
On the side of your oil catch tank funnel, put you a magnet to stick your drain plug on while you let it empty, that way you have a place to put it that it's not gonna drip oil on and make more mess.

I own a few John Deere 6M tractors that I use for winter only doing residential snow blowing. Every spring I have one or two people reach out to me wanting to rent out a tractor (even all of them) for the summer. And that's one thing I refuse to do, my tractors give me hardly no issues and I want to keep it that way. I'm very selective on who I hire to operate them in the winter months. Too many people have a don't care attitude.
I loaned my Polaris 700 sportsman to a friend to spray his fields and electric fencing before corn picking season because his was in the shop. It came back with a bent steering rod, wrecked bushings, and other broken parts. The cost for doing a favor for a friend was over 800.00, and a flat-out refusal to pay the bill. I don't loan my equipment nor my tools or money to people. Period.
I guess the GENT who messed up Your POLARIS is NO longer a friend? I do hope that You spread the word around about HIS behavior? maybe You have access to social media and Told about this guy's despicable behavior? Sounds like AFTER this incident that Mr. WREK-IT might have become an out-cast??

glad the spindle ripped apart and not the mower deck! My Dad had that Kubota RTV, side by side. I though it was strange
between the cab and the dump bed if you piled dirt too high the dirt would fall right in the engine compartment. They had
a rubber shield in there. I like that Ventrac tractor Wooo!
I like that Massey 240. I'll be looking forward to that video. I had the injector pump rebuilt for my TAFE 35DI and it was not cheap. Of the four tractors I own I think the TAFE gets used the most because it just seems to fit my overall needs the best.
hi josh i agree dont loan equipment out,i loaned a friend 2 pieces of my garden machines a sthil fs 55 strimmer and my mower a honda push mower, i asked him too return it he came with the excuse that he hadnt finished with it, he returned later my mower had been run out of oil and my strimmer had also been wrecked he had put oil in the fuel tank now im fighting him too replace them both
Can't fully agree. I am thankful for the neighbors that let me use their tractors when I didn't have one.

I've loaned my generator to my sister a couple of times. The first time, she refilled with crap gas, which corroded the carb like mad. I had to replace the carb. It doesn't help that you must run it outside. Ethanol attacts moisture. I only use ethanol-free gas in my 4 cycles and canned fuel mix in my 2 cycles. No more problems.

I learned a long time ago to never loan out equipment. When someone asks to borrow something I tell them I don't loan out my stuff, but if they want to buy it I'll sell it to them. I remember when I bought my new spring plow a friend wanted to borrow it and I agreed to let him use it. Come to find out he used it on an old road bed full of gravel. When it came back the chisel points were rounded off. When I spoke to him about it he said they have two sides, just flip them over. He nor anyone else borrows anything I own. I don't loan out gas cans, shovels and especially any tractor equipment.
And, nothing about a Ventrac is cheap! Great video! Ask me about an axe I loaned out! Not gunna do that again! Lee
If someone borrows a tool and damages it, they should offer to repair or replace it AND they should expect you to say yes to their offer.
Loaned tools have probably cost many friendships.
I once loaned a screwdriver to someone who needed it. It was returned in good condition.
When I was doing mechanic work I would often have 'friends' want to borrow tools and sometimes it's someone that you just cannot say no to. But even with them, I had two sets of tools, one for MY use and one I would loan from K mart. If something was said about didn't I have better tools I would remind them that THEY didn't even have the cheap tools but I was always open to donations if they wanted to get me something off the Snap On truck by way of a thank you... Oddly enough, no one ever did. I learned the hard way that others do not have the same care and concern that you do for your tools and equipment.

My kubota has a neutral in the dump. Push the lever all the way down and you can raise the bed by hand. Not sure if they all have this or not.
Consider building a puller to pull the pulley of the spindle on the Ventrac. I have also had horrible luck with loaning out equipment. I have a tons of equipment and i use google sheets to keep track of all maintenance records, parts and tools needed. Plus tips for next time.

I was also thinking. Use a torque wrench on your spindle assembly. The manufacturer has specific torque recommendations for most equipment. I found by using a torque wrench, my lawn equipment lasts way longer without being damaged.

I myself personally don't see the issue with the sxs i doubt they purposely abused but we're just using as designed. There meant to get a little rough.
Those lisle funnels are very handy, i do recommend not throwing away the attachment holders. Mount them on your wall and keep the funnel in a paint cup.
a kubota RTV isn't meant to be overloaded and have the skid plate bashed in my brother. This isn't a RZR...it's a workhorse designed to haul people and pull farm equipment, maybe a load of wood, hay or rocks. Not a rough housing toy or trail machine , but a little workhorse.
No good deed goes unpunished...hard to keep being a kind person when this comes around. Maybe I'll learn someday.
In regards to changing the oil on the kubota. If you do leave the bed down its no big deal, just hold the lever in the up position and have someone help you lift the bed and then put the stopper in place. I did it before super easy. Definitely don’t start your engine with no oil for no reason.

On the kubota RTV 1100c if you place the dump level on float you are able to lift the dump manually, I’m sure your model should be able to do as well
yeppers....there are work arounds...but best to dump the bed back before ya start the service

There's a very small list of people I trust to loan anything to and know they'll never screw me over
When I sharpen my blades, I'll drive a small nail into the edge of a board. Clamp that to a table with the nail overhanging the table edge. Then I'll set the blade bolt hole over the nail in a horizontal position and try to balance the blade on the nail. The heavy side will rotate downward, grind just a little material off of the heavy side, and recheck. This will help reduce vibration through the deck.

My Kubota went 25 MPH originally. It goes 16 now. Hopefully that issue gets fixed.
TIP: The Engine can also be accessed by folding the side panels in and folding the bed up. this only works for the X1140 and 1140 CPX.

who the heck would put a grease fitting under a skid plate? Can't believe no one in quality caught that. obviously they never worked on equipment.
Holy crap a $2 funnel does the same thing! I have a couple I have been useing for years without issues! No telling what that fancy funnel costs!😮
about $15 and there are some pieces of equipment that it's instrumental for an oil change. I get it...a $2 funnel...but having this in a pinch with multiple machines on the farm....most notably the skid loader....ya need an offset funnel. Having better tools when needed is always a plus my brother
What no brass draft pin or hammer to band that shaft out well maybe next time. Get some clip nuts for those nuts that the weld brakes off just replace with clip nuts
The terrible thing about tractor type hydraulic fluids being clear is how HARD it is to see the level on the dipstick.🤔🤨🧐🔍🔎
Getting some of the red John Deere fluid dye completely solves that problem! Best idea I'd ever heard.

Just replaced a fuel tank on a ford 6610. Of course the mounting holes were a little off. U know how aftermarket is
its really a mechanic with a farming hobby for most of us. lol. Always seems to be fixing more than farming
My philosophy on buying anything is to buy the best you can afford and take great care of it. Anytime ANYONE wants to borrow anything I give them conditions..First is I want it back exactly how you got it. Next is if you break it, lose it or it gets stolen...You replace it with brand new. If any conditions are unacceptable...Go buy your own...If I borrow from anyone all those conditions apply to me also.

You need a good blade balancer …just as important as a sharp blade.

I was wondering, do you still use a no till drill on your farm now, or have you got it to a point where it is not needed anymore?
sometimes in the fall we'll drill down some fescue or clover. Lately I've been waiting until the weather cools in sept/oct/nov and going in ahead of the cattle with the ATV broadcast spreader. Let the cows trample in the seed into the moist ground so we don't have to burn any diesel...this has really worked great

I solved this by not loaning. I rent them out and have a contract. Renter pays for damages.

I just put the nut on top and held it in place while I tightened it
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer they make a nutsert, that kinda works like a pop rivet, only it threaded on the inside and uses a stud and a two handled tool. I’m sure you’d find many uses for one of those.

Josh, Please be careful and wear gloves, especially when you are tightening razor sharp lawn mower blades. I know your a trained nurse but, cha know! If and when I borrow something, I always try to return it better than when I received it. The lender should always benefit from these transactions !
If you cant guarantee it will be back in the same if not better condition its not coming with you.
By guarantee im gonna need a collateral that will be more painful to you than it is to me.
Lending should never cause headaches to the lender unless it is his bussiness to lend.
If thats too much risk for the borrower, thats what proffesional lenders are for.
My tools and toys that I work and pay for, are not for others benefit that do not want to buy for them selves. If you can't afford or justify purchasing a tool, then you should rent and not borrow, period.
