I suppose if you need extra cash, you could sell it for a small profit. That said I presume you have a purpose for it. Its nice to have extra tractors so you don't need to swap implements as often. Have a dedicated tractor with a Brush Hog is very helpful, since there is always grass that needs to be cut. That tractor would make a good dedicated brush hogger!
You won’t regret that purchase. Those older Ford’s are amazing machines. Best part, you can fix it yourself, as you have shown. Nothing complicated, no specialized tools required. They are bulletproof. I like using my old Fords better than my new tractors.
I've been surfing TH-cam looking for Ford 3910 videos. I just bought a neighbors one owner 3910 today. Have a starter issue and have a small leak at the injector pump. I'll completely service it before I use it. You are very persistent, good job.
I think you and the "old lady" worked out a pretty good deal! In reality, I'm betting you will take care of her driveway alot longer than 5 years! You are just that kind of guy, you cherish and respect your elders! No matter how long you actually take care of her driveway, rest assured, she has a neighbor that actually cares! God bless you!🙏🙏
That’s a late model 2910 because it’s a type 2 indicated by the logo under the 2910 logo. And it’s got the black stripe instead of while like the older ones, very good tractor and very low hours, them old fords are tough as nails and I wouldn’t be afraid to say the best tractors ever made
Yeah in the Deep South those fords were the quintessential farm and hay tractors. A 5000 series open cab could handle any chore on a few hundred acre farm. Every farm had a 3000 series chore tractor. They were so common in south georgia that red and green tractors just looked weird to me.
You can't go wr9ng with the old fords have had a few and still got a few. 2610 is nice then I went to a 4600 now I have 2 7610 and a 6600 aswome tractor if maintained will last for ever

Good to hear it fire up, those engines sound lovely. Those pumps are the pits to bleed, alway have to crack one or two injector feeds, I have done that at the pump instead of the top. Take the top off the old pump and see if that sticky gunge has stuck it in any way, I had one stick over night, spent half a day trying to start it, the govner rack had stuck together inside 🙄🙄 look forward to seeing it more, a usful addition to the fleet.

Good deal for a authentic low hour tractor. I have a 3000 gas and a 3600 diesel, love them both. Very rare to have breakdowns. I imagine you would help her on her driveway with or without the tractor.
My neighbour has an old Ford 5600. Back in July 2019 threw a new clutch in it and replaced all filters & fluids in one weekend. It was the biggest PITA the bleed the air from the fuel system. It took us over an hour to realise you had to crack the injectors.
Josh those old Caps style pumps can be a pain in the butt. Make sure you keep clean fuel and clean fuel filters. Flush the oiling system with some Hot Shots secret stiction eliminator and use the same brand fuel treatment in the tank. Those Series II models are bulletproof with good maintenance. We still have Ford tractors on our farm to this day and even before I was born. Make sure to keep the front spindles greased well. They do have an upper and lower bushing internal. If you see any play, it’s cheaper to just replace them.
That would be a nice garden tractor as well. That blur attachment that’s in the shed is a potato plow (use it to dig up potatoes) great buy, that’ll be a good tractor!
Those old ford's are bullet proof. We have a 3910 that we bought new that is still used every day. You are correct that diesel ain't what it used to be. You will love that tractor. Our family farm is here in western NC also.
6 Aug 2024 - Josh , I extremely appreciated this video my son just sent me. I have the exact same problem with my Montana tractor, which is basically the same tractor as your Ford. Last Saturday I just took off the fuel valve. It is supposed to have a filter on the top that goes into the tank. I think yours disintegrated , and that's the mess you had inside the tank. If I knew how to send you a Photo of it, I would. 😊
I had a 3910 for years, I still have the manuals for it that have the 2910 in it as well. Chances are the pump had that same gunk in it and ate something up. Ether is not good for that engine, or any engine really, but it works to do the job of starting one if you have had the fuel system apart. You have the filter and water accumulator (the glass bowl), make sure and keep an eye on the glass bowl and look for sediment after fuel has settled or floaties of gunk while running. Chances are it is algae from bio diesel.
Flare Nut Wrenches... We used to call them Refrigerator Wrenches since theres lots of flared fittings on refrigerators. shoulda kept siphoning. Driveway maintenance...good deal. I snowplow my neighbors driveway just because hes sn old bugga and i like him. Gotta hate the problems caused by the Low Sulphur regulations. Not only is diesel high priced now but you have to additional algacides

We then began investigating what items would explode in a fire. Such as a Pepsi can. 😬 well the fire was Beside the barn and the wind was at our back. The Pepsi can exploded and ignited the 50 hay bales in the old barn. It was destroyed in minutes. 😔. The crazy part was I went to basketball practice that night and my coach was the fire chief. He asked me what happened and of course I explained it just started burning. He just grinned at me. Fortunately it was deemed an electrical fire.
Most of those pumps have a secondary filter inside. It's on the intake fuel side of the pump, a small spring and a ball detent. I would bet that was the problem.
I just went through this with a 600 hour ford 3000, the steering wheel has to be removed to take off the tank, oi didnt go this direction. I drained the tank, used a pressure washer to clear the flaking rust out the tank, installed a new cockpit and fuel filters. Solved the problem, runs strong and plenty stout unit.. Dont give up on her
Dont know if you still got that old 240 of yours… but that 2910 & 240 are by far the best tractors you got in your collection…can handle anything and will keep on going for another 100 years
Some of the best tractors ever made and every single part is still available either OEM or aftermarket. Unless you needed to send the old pump back for a core charge, I would keep it and send it off to somebody like Area Diesel and see what it would cost to get it rebuilt. They will keep indefinitely sealed up on a shelf indoors, never hurts to have a spare. You are right about low Sulfur diesel, the older fuels systems don't appreciate it. I use Howe's diesel additive in anything older than 2005. And yes you did good on the price, even after buying the pump. I just saw one go at auction a few weeks ago, a lot more hours and in need of new rubber, it still brought $6500 after buyers premium.
Go by the unit # or serial # to determine the year model. It's a series 2 which makes it a latter model. Made from 83 to 89 with 36 pto HP. I've owned two 4610's, a SU and an AP. Right now I have a nice 6610 Series 2. My father sold Allis back in the day but loved Ford tractors. The 10 series is revered as one of the best ever made. You did good.
Josh have the same tractor out here sold as a ford 3000 It has a 45 horse power 3 cylinder perkins The shut off valve should have a filter going into the fuel tank Just crack the injectors under the battery crank a bit then close. When it start recrack the injectors one st a time while running. These tractors are actually a massey Ferguson At 1800 revs 540 on pto and you will work all day With all the implements you got a good buy

Sometimes the rotor INSIDE the pump sticks after siting for a long time. CRACK the injector lines AT the end of the line that is going INTO the injector NOT THE RETURN ! great video thanks

I think you got a real good buy on that tractor. Have never used a 2910, but use to use a Ford 2000 and 3000 back when I helped my best friend's family in the hay fields.
It’s 49.5 horse power. Glad you got the timing correct. Those are timed to the engine. You did a good job. You got a great deal on that low hour tractor with all the implements also. 900 hours is nothing! Talk about low hours. You definitely got an astonishing great deal on that one.
Josh, my best recommendation would be to take that fuel tank off and have it cleaned and sealed. A local radiator shop here does it. They will cut the tank in half, clean, seal and re-weld it then it is like new. Much cheaper than replacing it and with all the crud in that tank it will save many problems. From your good TH-cam family's comments those were built in the 80s so that 40 odd years of corrosion built up in there. Hope this helps.
No wite smoke out of stack is a tale tale sign of no fuel to injectors, those ford diesel tractors are almost unkilliable. Ive done everything from clutches to brakes to injection pumps on those old tractors. Very easy to work on. Order you a good detailed manual and it’ll walk u through everything. Looks like the fuel tank has algae growing in it BTW you can have that injection pump rebuilt at a diesel shop in Candor Nc Robinson diesel. Usually cost 400-500$ And yes you %100 percent can mess a injection pump up. The reasson it cost so much to have one installed is because the labor of getting it times up( the pump can be 180% out if time and cause it to run like crap) thankfully you got lucky.
My grandpa had a 2000 and his brother had a 3000 Ford and they farmed hundreds of acres for years and years. Mainly Tobacco hay and cattle. Great tractors that have lasted a lifetime.
off topic of this video but for some reason. i've been getting video's popping up about people fixing up their honda elements. everyone seem's to be building them into overland builds and making them into camper vehicles. pretty cool. made me think of you and your element.
I only know what I've seen on Heavy D Sparks' channel and a few of the homesteadchannels... do not run let your diesel engine run out of fuel. I have no idea why I watch except that you and Heavy D Sparks remind me of all the hours I handed tools to my father and kept him in iced tea during the hot summer hours he spent keeping five cars going for our family.
Bleed the fuel system from tank to injectors is first step if it won’t crank on diesel. Also verify fuel shut off works properly and in correct position to start
Those Ford tractors are my favorite by far. Just love the body design, style and enjoy working with them. The 3000, 3910 II and 5000 are probably my favorite and you got a great one too. Very fun to rake and put up hay with. Hope to see you post several videos using it. Great buy!
I still think you got a good deal even having to replace the injector pump. Kudos to you for taking on that challenge. I've had two injector pumps rebuilt on two different tractors and this, to include labor for taking them off and putting them on, is not cheap. You may want to look at replacing that fuel tank too. This means more fuel running over the engine block - OH NO!!! And, you are right about the algae in the fuel. I buy an anti-algae additive for when my tractors are going to sit for a while. I'm looking to sell my old Ford 4000. It is a 50 hp and was made in 1964, but that thing runs like a champ. No issues with it at all, but I have four tractors and I need to down size a bit. Oh, last thing is you still owe use the implement tour of what came with this Ford tractor. Thanks.

I am sure you got it by now but the cable that runs the cut off for the injection pump is a possible sticky spot. Also I pull the throttle about .33 % down to make sure the engine gets good flow. Mine is a 2000 so it is older with no glow plugs. Always starts. PS, I watched to the end, nice work.
I bet that felt good when it fired up. The 2910 looks to be the evolution of the 3000, give or take. My 1968 looks pretty much like that. Same 3-cylinder block, although Dad always said the diesel design was better than our gas version. Looks like the tires are almost new, at least no wear to speak of. Glad it’s running for you. Way to persevere!
Very common to that series is a stuck clutch. On my 2810 and 2910 once I got the clutch released I would use a length of 2 x 4 to hold the clutch pedal depressed when I parked the tractor in the barn. I wedged the 2 x 4 from the front seat edge to the depressed clutch pedal.
Good deal-can['t beat those old Ford tractors-shoot-that is no hours t all. Replace both that fuel filter and the water separator next to it-new fuel cap/new radiator cap-then run it hard for a couple hours. Change all the fluids then/grease her good. You can also get a plastic canopy for the driver and a foot gas pedal conversion kit if you are doing close in tight work. Just going to take time.
Bleed the filters--- small screw on top of the filter housing. Crack open the injectors on top of the engine ( they're under the battery ) and crank until you get fuel on top. Tighten injectors and start engine. Keep that starting fluid away from that tractor. It only causes more serious problems.
Great tractors. I have a 3910 series II. I’m not convinced the injector pump was bad, but I could be wrong. But those are simple , tough tractors. It’s probably a late 80’s model. Ours is a 1988.

Thank you for that video I learned a lot about the diesel I'm good with gas but diesel is different animal.. and once the fuel gets on your man is there to stay, I used to do hot top driveways and we use kerosene all the stuff off I was covered in it every day
Bleed injectors at the injector. You can also spray heavy mixed saw gas into the intake and run it on that until it clears the air. Saw gas is easier on the cylinders than ether
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer diesels cause combustion through compression. Technically it will bust off if you sprayed motor oil through the intake. Mix gas has oil in it and doesn't detonate as hard as ether does, and it combust at a lower pressure than diesel, so it won't be as hard on the upper cylinder. Watch the Stacey David video on diesel injectors if you wanna learn.
That's probably a 10000 dollar tractor good for you for offering to maintain her driveway I'm actually a international guy but always liked the cords there pretty much bullet proof

Ive got a 1983 2910 my grandfather bought new. Great chore tractor. And it just works. Runs a 7' haybine with no problem

The mechanical rebuilds on U-Tube are extremely popular. This one knock 'er right out of the park. It was well done and worthy of good recomondation.

Including all that came with it and the parts you now have a great tractor at a really good deal. I ran a 3610 for years no issues.
All you needed to do with the coolant hose was to disconnect it at the bottom and turn it to face upwards, so no coolant would flow out.
You should get yourself and outboard motor fuel tank and bulb pump, so you can hook it up, to see if everything else works.

Just replaced the fuel tank on my 6610. Rusted out. Bought one from Yesterdays Tractors. Good people to deal with.

You need to be concerned about the timing marks on the pump in relation to the mounting area. Very important. I have an old 3910, worked the same way!

Just crack the injectors under the battery crank a bit then close. When it start recrack the injectors one st a time while running.

😁Hey Stoney.. sounds fantastic .Bargain ! Great job on the tractor. BUT You should have change the fuel filters FIRST and bled the old fuel out of the pump then spray some WD40 into it . Sometimes the rotor INSIDE the pump sticks after siting for a long time. CRACK the injector lines AT the end of the line that is going INTO the injector NOT THE RETURN ! great video thanks

I think you got a real good buy on that tractor. Have never used a 2910, but use to use a Ford 2000 and 3000 back when I helped my best friend's family in the hay fields.
It’s 49.5 horse power. Glad you got the timing correct. Those are timed to the engine. You did a good job. You got a great deal on that low hour tractor with all the implements also. 900 hours is nothing! Talk about low hours. You definitely got an astonishing great deal on that one.

Josh, my best recommendation would be to take that fuel tank off and have it cleaned and sealed. A local radiator shop here does it. They will cut the tank in half, clean, seal and re-weld it then it is like new. Much cheaper than replacing it and with all the crud in that tank it will save many problems. From your good TH-cam family's comments those were built in the 80s so that 40 odd years of corrosion built up in there. Hope this helps.
No wite smoke out of stack is a tale tale sign of no fuel to injectors, those ford diesel tractors are almost unkilliable. Ive done everything from clutches to brakes to injection pumps on those old
tractors. Very easy to work on. Order you a good detailed manual and it’ll walk u through everything. Looks like the fuel tank has algae growing in it
BTW you can have that injection pump rebuilt at a diesel shop in Candor Nc Robinson diesel. Usually cost 400-500$ And yes you %100 percent can mess a injection pump up. The reasson it cost so much to have one installed is because the labor of getting it times up( the pump can be 180% out if time and cause it to run like crap) thankfully you got lucky.
My grandpa had a 2000 and his brother had a 3000 Ford and they farmed hundreds of acres for years and years. Mainly Tobacco hay and cattle. Great tractors that have lasted a lifetime.

I only know what I've seen on Heavy D Sparks' channel and a few of the homesteadchannels... do not run let your diesel engine run out of fuel. I have no idea why I watch except that you and Heavy D Sparks remind me of all the hours I handed tools to my father and kept him in iced tea during the hot summer hours he spent keeping five cars going for our family.
Bleed the fuel system from tank to injectors is first step if it won’t crank on diesel. Also verify fuel shut off works properly and in correct position to start

Those Ford tractors are my favorite by far. Just love the body design, style and enjoy working with them. The 3000, 3910 II and 5000 are probably my favorite and you got a great one too. Very fun to rake and put up hay with. Hope to see you post several videos using it. Great buy!

I still think you got a good deal even having to replace the injector pump. Kudos to you for taking on that challenge. I've had two injector pumps rebuilt on two different tractors and this, to include labor for taking them off and putting them on, is not cheap. You may want to look at replacing that fuel tank too. This means more fuel running over the engine block - OH NO!!! And, you are right about the algae in the fuel. I buy an anti-algae additive for when my tractors are going to sit for a while. I'm looking to sell my old Ford 4000. It is a 50 hp and was made in 1964, but that thing runs like a champ. No issues with it at all, but I have four tractors and I need to down size a bit. Oh, last thing is you still owe use the implement tour of what came with this Ford tractor. Thanks.

I am sure you got it by now but the cable that runs the cut off for the injection pump is a possible sticky spot. Also I pull the throttle about .33 % down to make sure the engine gets good flow. Mine is a 2000 so it is older with no glow plugs. Always starts. PS, I watched to the end, nice work.

I bet that felt good when it fired up. The 2910 looks to be the evolution of the 3000, give or take. My 1968 looks pretty much like that. Same 3-cylinder block, although Dad always said the diesel design was better than our gas version. Looks like the tires are almost new, at least no wear to speak of. Glad it’s running for you. Way to persevere!
Very common to that series is a stuck clutch. On my 2810 and 2910 once I got the clutch released I would use a length of 2 x 4 to hold the clutch pedal depressed when I parked the tractor in the barn. I wedged the 2 x 4 from the front seat edge to the depressed clutch pedal.
Good deal-can['t beat those old Ford tractors-shoot-that is no hours t all. Replace both that fuel filter and the water separator next to it-new fuel cap/new radiator cap-then run it hard for a couple hours. Change all the fluids then/grease her good. You can also get a plastic canopy for the driver and a foot gas pedal conversion kit if you are doing close in tight work. Just going to take time.
Bleed the filters--- small screw on top of the filter housing. Crack open the injectors on top of the engine ( they're under the battery ) and crank until you get fuel on top. Tighten injectors and start engine. Keep that starting fluid away from that tractor. It only causes more serious problems.
You took notice he didn't crack the injectors, just the return too.

Great tractors. I have a 3910 series II. I’m not convinced the injector pump was bad, but I could be wrong. But those are simple , tough tractors. It’s probably a late 80’s model. Ours is a 1988.
lol....I'm pretty convinced it was the injection pump...we'll take it apart soon and see what was up...rebuild kit is on order!
Shop vac on the filler will keep the fuel in the tank while you pull the shut off

Thank you for that video I learned a lot about the diesel I'm good with gas but diesel is different animal.. and once the fuel gets on your man is there to stay, I used to do hot top driveways and we use kerosene all the stuff off I was covered in it every day

Ether = tractor crack. The wrenches used on the fuel lines are called line wrenches. Looks like it will be a good tractor once you get it going.
Bleed injectors at the injector.
You can also spray heavy mixed saw gas into the intake and run it on that until it clears the air. Saw gas is easier on the cylinders than ether

@@StoneyRidgeFarmer diesels cause combustion through compression. Technically it will bust off if you sprayed motor oil through the intake. Mix gas has oil in it and doesn't detonate as hard as ether does, and it combust at a lower pressure than diesel, so it won't be as hard on the upper cylinder. Watch the Stacey David video on diesel injectors if you wanna learn.
