    A good reason to ALWAYS use the manufacturer's recommendations. This might never needed to have happened in the first place.

    Don't the set up directions that come with the 7300 recommend that the user go get this driver from ICOM before connecting the radio to a PC?

    • @HamRadioA2Z
      @HamRadioA2Z  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Steve. Yes, they do. Let me explain why I haven't done that previously. There are 2 "devices" inside the 7300 that connect to your PC over the USB cable. One looks like a very standard, generic sound card. That's what gets the rig audio to and from the PC. Windows has had standard drivers for years to support that. Even with this recent Windows 11 glitch, the sound part was connecting correctly. The other device is a standard serial COM port. Icom uses a very standard Silicon Labs chip for this. Like the sound device, Windows has (previously) had standard drivers that supported this. So I never had to install the Icom drivers. I don't like to load any extra junk on my machine that I don't have to. If you read the License Agreement in the Icom download you will see that it is from Silicon Labs. Icom is just providing the standard drivers that are available directly from Silicon Labs as a convenience.

      @@HamRadioA2Z I do wonder if Icom intends to release a Windows 11 version of their rig drivers? Something is obviously different in 11, as demonstrated by your video. Microsoft is doing something differently in the USB and Com port communication to external devices. The IT professional in me suspects part of the problem may have been because Windows 11 was loaded via an upgrade. It would be interesting to me if a fresh ground up install of Windows 11, then connect to the radio would work without installing the Icom drivers? Again, I assume there is a reason Icom instructs users to get their driver software, but I'd be curious to know if it is Windows 11 itself that breaks things or the upgrade process? Who cares?? I assume most Hams will be going to 11 via the upgrade process rather than blowing away the existing OS and loading from scratch. It might be good to know if they are headed for this same problem. Anyway, thank you for the video and discussions. 73 de W5EN

    MY Icom 7300 experienced the same problem. I installed the ICOM USB driver. When I select CAT control, it turns green. When I select Tansmit, the ICOM 7300 transmits...............However there is no USB audio from or to WSJTX. When I set up the com port, I can select the newly created com 5. WSJTX audio set up see's a microphone and speaker port called 3-USB speaker, and 3- USB microphone. No usb audio interface from or to the 7300. If I connect my macpro to the the 7300, it works perfectly. The ICOM USB driver interface with windows 11 is still screwed up. Any thoughts?

    • @HamRadioA2Z
      @HamRadioA2Z  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi. Sorry you’re having trouble. The Icom drivers are for the COM ports. As far as I know, there are no specific drivers for audio. The 7300 just looks like a standard sound card. You mention 3-USB speaker & microphone. That makes me think there may be 2 other USB audio devices. Do you have any other USB audio devices connected to your PC like a USB mixer or some other external sound-card interface? Are you sure you’re selecting the correct audio devices for WSJT-X? If it works fine on your Mac, I’m guessing you’ve already checked this, but just in case- You do have the radio set to USB-D, not just USB and you have the audio settings under the Connectors Menu to get modulation input from the USB port?

    What software did you use to record this video and do the windows capture?

    • @HamRadioA2Z
      @HamRadioA2Z  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi- I use Davinci Resolve for editing videos. Slightly steep learning curve, but amazingly powerful program. I use the paid version, but the free version is extremely capable. I use OBS Studio for screen captures. It is an open source project. I use PointerFocus for the mouse pointer highlights. I paid for that, but the license was only $12.50 U.S.D.

    I'm having the same problem. Updated to Windows 11 a few days ago. Using Yaesu FT-891 and SignaLink. When I open WSJT-X settings, soundcard, both the Line in and Line out shows (USB AUDIO CODEC) (Not found). I've downloaded and installed the CP210 Virtual Drivers but they do not show up in Device Manager. Any suggestions?

    • @HamRadioA2Z
      @HamRadioA2Z  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One thing I do when troubleshooting Windows devices is to open Device Manager with the USB cable unplugged. Then plug the cable in and watch for what things show up. With these radios, you may have to do it a few times. You have to watch for audio devices and then also watch for COM devices.

    Hi Tom, I got a similar problem and nobody not Icom support, HRD support can figure it out. Everything works like it should, wsjtx controls the radio, when it transmits it puts out power but nobody hears me and I can't see myself on PSK reporter. HELP

    • @HamRadioA2Z
      @HamRadioA2Z  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If WSJT-X is controlling the rig, then you know that the serial interface between the radio and computer is working correctly. If the rig is putting out power on SSB, then you know that it is getting at least some audio input. Do you have any way to listen to your own signal? For example, connect the radio to a dummy load and use another radio with just a short piece of wire in the antenna jack to listen to what you are actually transmitting. If you don’t have a 2nd radio, do you have a ham friend within a few miles who can listen? You want to make sure the signal sounds clean and not distorted. Have you checked your input audio levels and looked at the ALC meter while you’re transmitting? These are the first things that come to mind for me. Keep me posted.

      @@HamRadioA2Z Last night I had a friend listen on the freq, about 20 miles away. He heard my signal. I did not show up on his WSJT though and we couldn't make contact even if we forced it. Time settings are synced too. He was sending on the even and me on the odd. I also turned on the MONI on my 7300 and can hear my signal when I transmit. I have been transmitting for an hour and not one spot on psk reporter.

      Had my friend kn4zgy listen and he hears my signal.@@HamRadioA2Z
      I am dealing with problems with my new computer. Can someone possibly tell me what I am doing wrong? Mind you this is NOT radio-specific, it happens on both my IC_9700 and my IC-7300. Changed USB cables, added ferrites and all. They worked fine on my Windows 10 computer.
      Here is the problem on both Icom radios, Everything is set correctly for civ cat control, and on both radios, it triggers transmit and puts out power. But nobody hears me. You can hear the signals on another radio but nothing is spotted on PSK reporter or even wsprnet when I try to run Wisper.
      On the 9700 when I try to work IO-117 I decode call signs but when I transmit, the power goes out and nobody responds.
      Ham Radio Deluxe tech support couldn't fix it and also Icom tech support can't figure it out they all say it's windows.
      I am completely at a loss as to why this is happening, but I am sure it must be the same problem with both. Icom drivers have been downloaded and installed already. Sound devices are configure as per the instructions.

    • @HamRadioA2Z
      @HamRadioA2Z  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, this is definitely a puzzler. You didn't say what mode you are trying to use. I assume FT8? If your friend hears your signal and it "sounds" like what an FT8 signal should sound like, then there must be some type of distortion. There is the Audio Scope on the 7300, but it isn't narrow enough to look at a single FT8 signal. Not sure what to suggest next.

      Hi Robert. I’m happy to do that. Unfortunately, they’re slightly different for everyone, depending on your computer setup. What exactly do you mean by not playing nice? I assume it is controlling frequency okay. Is it not decoding received messages? Or is the problem with transmit audio?

    Hello,
    Thank you for this beautiful presentation.
    Unfortunately following the change of my PC, the USB port does not recognize my IC-7200. The driver recommended in the presentation installed has no effect.
    Does anyone have a solution for me?
    Thanks in advance

    • @HamRadioA2Z
      @HamRadioA2Z  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Louis, Sorry you’re having trouble. One thing that has occasionally worked for me is try plugging into a different USB port on your computer. This will sometimes trigger Windows to re-load the drivers. Amazingly, if this works, it will usually work fine back on the original port. The other option is to uninstall all of the serial drivers and then re-install the latest ones again. Be sure that the radio USB cable is NOT plugged in while you’re doing this.
