Great video. Just got my 7300 and followed your clear and concise instructions. Was up and running in about 20 mins. So much easier than my IC-718. Thanks
Thanks for this demo. I also appreciate that you had a clear, enlarged image of the radio’s screen, such that when you enabled various functions, your hand didn’t get in the way, as some folks doing demos on YT are wont to do. 73!
Kudos to you sire!! The rig settings made the difference as FS8Call now works and error reports became instant history. Many thanks, 73. Robert - ZL2JED
I'm currently running an FT-891, whenever I manage to get myself a 7300, it's going to take me a very long time to learn everything. the FT-891 is primarily a mobile / portable radio, so it's very menu-driven. It took me about a month to learn the whole thing, so I'd imagine it's probably going to take me about 2 months to learn a 7300. Also, this video has simply reinforced the fact that I need a 7300 lol... 73 de W8IJC!
Thank you very much I have been trying to set up my icom- 7300 and want for a few days and no luck found your video and you made it so easy in 10 mins had it up and running thank you
Great video. Really well done! I was still having problems with my ICOM 7300 set up this weekend. Was working previously but not after latest ICOM software update. Then I came upon the FT8 preset! Loaded this mode and the ICOM is perfect. Just thought I would add this as one push of the button sets the whole radio up to be optimised ! Cheers. Mark M7MSR (p.s. I should add that the FT8 button of course sets the radio up for all the modes that WSJT-X et al offers ! )
Thank you thank you thank you. You are an excellent instructor. Followed your instructions and it worked in the first try! Request. I used to own a 7300 so I appreciate its attributes and probably all you need in the real world. But I do think if you use it with a pc like with data modes the consideration for sdr is a must. My sdr as a lot more going on with a wider range of parameters for individual use. Incidentally my sdr costs the same as 7300 so you don’t need deep pockets to realise it.
Great videos, Hayden.. I have one question... at the moment... In this video you show finding a sort of clear spot where the red and green come together to form a box.. I "assume" that means you plan to send a CQ on that freq and receive there as well... But, what happens when you are hunting? You click on a CQ and it changes the green box. Do you leave your TX box in the same place? Thanks
If you double click on a call, and you have Hold TX Freq ticked, then the TX freq will stay the same, whilst the green box will move to the station you’re calling. It’s recommended to keep this ticked
Great video. Thank you for sharing. When using my IC-7300 as you layed out, when I hit the Test Cat button it turns green, YAY! When I hit the Test PTT button the mode on my radio changes to UBS where it was just in USB-D and, I have no transmit power even though it does key the radio. Any suggestions? Again, thank you for helping us. Cheers, Jay N6WIP
Hi Jay, Make sure in WSJT-X under the radio settings it is set to "Data". It should then key in the USB-Data mode. The reason that there is no transmit power is because it's trying to transmit in USB mode (and in the radio this is configured to take audio from the front MIC socket). I hope that helps, let me know if you get stuck.
Hey Hayden, Nice video. Your Rx Window at 8min40 - do I get a QSL for that :) I just invested in a 7300, finally retiring a very old 720A (the clacker).
