My parakeet would let me know when bed time was as well. He would scream at me to let me know and if I ignored (fake) him, he would fly over and get right in my face with a very specific scream for bedtime. I never needed a watch in the evening, because he was my watch. I loved that angel until the end and miss him dearly now. I am researching quaker's as my next bird.
I'm impressed. I swear my quaker was dropped on its head when hatched. Lol He's the most dense bird I've owned in all my 44 years of owning parrots. He's just not interested in talking, although I know many aren't, but he's afraid of everything, doesn't like any changes in the house, etc., and bites like crazy out of the blue. He's unpredictable.
Sounds like mine! Not had him 6 months and he's only about 2 years old. Not hand tamed but I believe with care and positive interaction they can be tamed and learn to trust again.
Elihu loves his SLEEP cage and his large cage home. He is out so much that he looks forward to his sleep cage and asks "ready to go night night" when it's time. I now almost always leave the door open. It's now 12 pm and he's still in it by choice. It is his nest in his mind. He also specifically asks "cage?" when he wants to go home to his big cage. He's not imprisoned. Lol We should be as impassioned as my viewers at helping those birds that are.
@d. nuzzio this sleeping cage idea made me rethink, I have 1 sunconure, he used to be super cage aggresive till age 3, but it did not stop me to change his liner/food bowls, adjust his happy hut. Then I tried cleaning his cage tray underline... All the dry dirt with a mini vaccumn cleaning with he inside the cage, after a bath, i use mini non teflon drier inside his cage. Now he does not have even residudual cage aggresion. I so badly want a Monk parakeet, but the stories of aggressivenes deter me.
@d. nuzzio thanks so much for the detailed information, I am looking for a friend for my Sun Conure, I am a 1parrit person, and my parrot is near perfect, i have read so many horror stories of sun conure screaming, but my sun doesnt scream, i used to have a gcc, even the gcc was louder than my sun. After my gcc escaped, my sun bonded to me in many folds, but I am currently working from home due to corona, I will. Have to join office soon, my sun will be lonely. I live with my father and aunt, my sun is bonded to them as well, but i am the choosen one. Quakers look so cute, and they are very intelligent also good eaters. I am torn between a quaker and a lovebird. I want a cuddly bird who will not after scooby, my sun conures blood.
Thank you:) He's my little boy. 14 yrs old now. He's more brilliant than it shows here. Wish he wasn't so camera shy. This was a good night for him in the security of his sleep cage.
My quaker never goes into the cage so we would never lock her but the problem is that while i go to school and when i come back home i see poop on my bed so now every school day we have to lock her until i get back
It's probably safer for her. They aren't suffering if they are in their cage for some time every day. As long as they get love and attention regularly. Its good for them to learn to play alone. Toys, radio are good too.
Omg I’m in love with this video of your Quaker parrot god bless him I just got one 3days ago and I just want it to know how was you able to get it to talk and not sacra of you.like what was ur day to day set with with it?
You have to let them out the cage and play and talk to them. I have one and she is brilliant. I hope this woman lets her bird out. I'm assuming it's bedtime that's why he is in there.
Quakers are my favorite parrot ( Don't tell Zoe, my CB Conure:) They are every bit as smart as African Greys. I heard once... " a FID (feathered kid) is what you make it." Elihu was absolutely doted on as a baby. I practiced step ups every night with him and went through a repertoire of animal sounds before bed every night for years. He would ask "Wanna practice? He's 14 now. We still practice a lot. I also generally talk a lot and talk to him as if he is a person. I ALWAYS respond to him and Zoe when they speak to me. Not to screaming though. I run a basic recording of me singing and going through his favorite sounds and words on a loop with music and water sounds most of the day. He loves to practice and sing with it while alone. I hear him upstairs having a ball. Zoe also has sounds and words she likes. She's more of a cuddler than a talker. I wish people could see how adorable it is to walk and the room and hear her say from her covered sleep cage( in her sweet baby voice), " Hiiiiiiy" or "Big Smooch" followed by kissy sounds. Elihu usually says, "I love you" or "bye" as I walk out of the room at night. Beyond amazing. They drive me nuts with screaming sometimes but they are soooooo lovable. My FIDS 😉.
We got our Quaker parrot when she was 4months old. We have had her for 15months now. Let their cage open so they can come in & out to eat. Start talking to them like a child. They love attention and love. Our kiwi (quaker parrot) is attached to my 11yr old daughter. They are best friends. Kiwi protects her from dad and little brother. They give her massages and etc. She (kiwi) is a spoiled brat. If she goesn't get a 5minute massage. Kiwi gets an attitude.😋😊. We feed her pasta (no butter, steamed broccoli & carrots, peas. She is an eater. But we need to watch what she eats.🤔. Good luck with new owners of quaker parrots. Be patience. Fyi: the only time kiwi is in her cage is for bedtime. Otherwise, she is everywhere in the house. On the floor sofas and kids room. She is our babh.
Take him out of his territory. Get him away from his cage. They are nippy. I use a glove with Elihu when he is being nippy. Sometimes I just have to say, "Do you want me to get the glove?" He knows what I'm saying and humbles himself so funny. He hates the glove and grumbles and complains when I get it out. You do have to have some discipline tactics to curb this tendency to bite as they get older.
Renaissanista ah thank you 🙏🏼 I needed this TT-TT I got him in august he’s a wittle baby and I just felt bad disciplining him but it’s going to get worse :( thanks for your wonderful advice I’ll try to remember to tell u the outcome!
He's in his sleep cage. He loves it. He feels safe there and talks more when in it at night. He has a large cage also and goes with me around the house all the time. He does not like going outside. He is a bit sensitive and tells me when he is "scared". He tends to clam up and not want to talk away from his cage unless he's having an outgoing day, but he knows over 200 words. . See other videos of him at my fish tank etc.....
Now he is 14 years old. He was a few years younger in this video. They really talk and learn their first year or two. Little sponges. He still learns words. As an older bird, he is learning to understand words and what they signify. He understands the meaning of words like "hug", "pet"(being petted) "scared" and is very sensitive to the tone of my voice. I believe he basically understands what "I love you" means to. He says it only when he feels it. Lol People don't really get how smart these parrots are. They are stunningly brilliant, if you get to know them.😊
Sorry I missed a lot of comments. Perdon. Where did I buy him I believe you are asking. I recommend a handfed parrot from local breeder not a pet store and buy a young bird. The lady I purchased him from no longer breeds parrots. I am in WV, USA.

Why is the rope all chewed up and frayed?! Thats so unsafe, you need to remove it.
Very clever little bird.
Good parrot ,you are so cute and beautiful.

Why is he behind bars? I had a Quaker before. They are cuddly and fun!
Raina Art read the description
It's his sleep cage. He likes talking there, which means his owner might let him out when he doesn't talk.
he committed cute crimes.
That's a rooster!
Very nice how do you teach him to speak
Do you let him out? My quaker sleeps on the top of her cage. The cage is jail.

@@renaissanista that's wonderful. I'm happy you let him out. Some people don't that's why I was concerned.
My Quakers think they are little night owls. I keep telling them bedtime. 5 more minutes mom.🐦🐦🛌
