@@FelixImmler Hi Felix. So, hab das ganze jetzt mal ausprobiert. Kleine Änderung; 400er Schleifpapier statt 240er. Fazit: klappt prima. mit dieser Methode lässt sich noch mal mehr ' Beisskraft' der Zähne rausholen. So prinzipiell ist die Säge, wie an sich, das komplette Ranger Wood 55 ein Hammer Teil und absolut alltagstauglich. Hätte übrigens auch einen kleinen Tipp bezüglich dem Ranger Wood. Weiß zwar nicht ob das schon mal jemand online gestellt hat. Und zwar geht es um ein Werkzeug was bei der Holzbeschalung fehlt. Nämlich die Pinzette, zumindest finde ich damit das Messer erst komplett. Habe folgendes gemacht: bei einer Victorinox Pinzette aus einem älteren Rambler habe ich die Kunststoffnase weggefeilt. Damit lässt sich das gute Stück komplett in den Korkenzieher versenken und hält bombenfest. Geht aber nur beim großen Korkenzieher, wo der Innendurchmesser der Stärke der Pinzette entspricht. Wollte eigentlich auch mein evowood 17 mit ner Pinzette versehen, da müsste man aber Material runternehmen, sonst passt es nicht. Gruß und prima Videos
Very interesting technique you've displayed! This makes sense, and I use similar sharpening technique with some of my knives that are serrated! Victorinox has to be proud of your demonstrations!

I gave it a try and it seems to work. My SAK Hiker is new and the saw was still sharp. It did clean the blade. I will try it again once my saw blade has had more use.

I can't quite make out the tooth profile, are you catching every second tooth? Do you just work on one side of the blade or flip it to catch the other teeth?
I believe the principle of the SAK saw is same as the silky saw blades. Sawblade it is flat on the outer surfaces, but minimalistically tapered up to spine of the saw. Not like a traditional saw where blade thickness is even on whole blade, but every other saw-tooth is bend a minimal distance to each side. Both methods are used to give the blade space to move through the material. On could say profile of SAK/silky is like V (teeth upward) and traditional is like Y (every other teeth upward).
I used my swisschamp while landscaping. I first used the knife blade to cut open the root balls on trees to be planted, but I had to touch up the blade every night, sucked. Then I thought, why not the wood saw? I tried it, and it was perfection. Id stab it into the rootball and slice through the burlap, rope and dirt. it never dulled even with the dirt in the blade teeth. i used it until I lost it someplace. I never even had the thought "maybe its dull from use". It never was. Im no "knife guy" but that champ seemed to have good enough steel for me. Never a complaint. oh, it was kinda bulky I guess. peace
In a pinch I sawed carbon fiber because I had nothing else to do the job, needless to say it was very blunt. I did your trick with the sandpaper on my Spirit and it worked like a charm. It´s cutting wood now like never before.....Thanks!

Ich wäre eher zurückhaltend mit Säge nachschärfen. Die Dinger sind ewig scharf. Nur wenn Du mal in einen Nagel oder einen Stein gesägt hast würde ich auf diese Methode zurückgreifen. Liebe Grüsse
Hello Andi. As much i know you can^t buy replacement pieces. Warrenty is just for fabrication errors. I think you have to buy a sevice. But ask Victorinox direct if you want to be sure..
Felix immler another good video I do same thing on my saw then I strop it on leather I has made a block of wood with sand paper on one side other has leather with smurf poo compound I recommended it highly stay awesome and safe good friend 👍🐺🐾
Gute Idee Felix, dennoch frage ich mich, bei anderen Sägen, schärft man doch auch zwischendrin, die Zähne. Warum dann nicht auch bei Dem Sägeblatt, klar geht Das schwerer bis vielleicht garnicht !
Weil das V innen nicht stumpf wird sondern nur die Kanten außen. Wenn du Die abträgst ist die Säge wieder schön scharf. Geht mit dieser Methode nur, weil das Blatt einfach nur konisch gestaltet ist. Bei anderen Sägen mit Verschränkung muss du von innen Schärfen. Sonst trägst du die Verschränkung ab.
Frank hat Recht....und wenn Du zwischen den Zähnen nachschleifst werden die kanten niemals so scharf und agressiv wie wenn das einen Maschine schleift. LG

nein, mit dem RC4 wird das sicherlich auch funktionieren. ich würde aber zuerst auf der rauhen, dunklen Seite abstehende Zahnteile "abfeilen" bevor Du auf das weisse Kermaikfeld gehst. LG

Or you could send it to the Victorinox and let them sharpen it for you, I think it's lifetime warranty and it's free I think so you don't f*ck up you're Swissknife, it's two things they would replace it if they can't fix it but it's up to because some of them has sentimental value like mine because it's a gift from my Mom, so if you don't want it to be replaced they would probobly just return it to you or if you get lucky they would return it and give you another one or a mini one 😅

Hallo Felix, ich schärfe meine Victorinox Säge tatsächlich Zahn für Zahn und habe bis her sehr gute Ergebnisse erzielt. Ok Ich bin ja ach gelernter Schneidwerkzeugmechaniker :-) und ist ja quasi mein Handwerk, aber ich denke auch ein Laie kann das. Deine Methode geht natürlich wesentlich schneller, trägt aber auch mehr Material von der Säge ab. Alles immer ein für uns wieder. Gruß André
Ich sagte ja im Video: "Forget it, if you are not a realy pro!" 😂😂😂 Wer zwischen den Zähnen mit der Diamantfeile irgenwie herumschmirgelt und nicht 100% weiss was er macht, der macht seine Säge stumpf.. das ist für mich klar. Ich habe mal versucht eine Sägezahnung zu feilen. Ich hatte Null Chance das die Säge auch nur annähernd so agressiv wird die aus der Schleifmaschine. LG Felix

Felix, I love your SAK ideas, but as a carpenter all you are doing is removing the kerf of the saw blade, but not sharpening , or improving the cutting ability of the saw blade.

Toller Tipp! Danke☺️ Nur kurz nochmal eine Frage. Die Sägeklinge wird bei dieser Methode absolut plan (bzw. flach) aufgelegt, oder versuchst du einen minimalen Winkel in Richtung der Sägezähne aufzubauen? Wie sieht es mit dem Druck aus; eher leichten Druck ausüben, oder? Danke & liebe Grüße
I'd like to share my personal experience with sharpening a Victorinox saw. At first I used a long thin edge of white (fine) triangular stones from Spyderco sharpener, making strokes between teeth in both directions (in and out). It made the saw definitely worse. Didn't cut wood at all but still mooved. Then I used Felix's approach with sand paper on a flat surface. And the teeth got very sharp immediately. But the saw get caught in wood almost every stroke. Because, even though it's not a normal saw with teeth bent out, they should not be in a line with blade I thought. I tried this method three times. No success. Then, again, I took a triangular Spyderco stone but this time a brown one. I did strokes only in one direction (out of the blade) two times between each couple of teeth . Then did it with another side of the blade. The angle is neerly 40 degrees. I used the first groove on a tip of the blade as an angle guideline. And it worked. Eventually I can use my saw almost like it's new again.
Best advice ever!! I've used this trick many many many times and it works super good I use some 2000 grit and 2500 grit wet dry paper and it's left sticky sharp even better that new every time and it's always that sharp when I need it !!!
Great tip .. knife maintenance is often over looked. Any saw is difficult to sharpen, you can ruin your saw if you dont do it right. Your Tip is perfect to keep the blade at its best. i am not sure though if i grate a lot of cheese with my knife i have all that much to worry about except cleaning the cheese thoroughly. Sticks and construction of wood tools and things is a whole other thing. I have used that saw for things in a pinch where it was the perfect tool for the job... Oh by the way the can opener video was great too... i always thought that can opener was serious .. and it is.. thanks for sharing the knowledge..

That tip is genius, Felix!! If wet/dry sandpaper is used, with a drop of water, and grit is a bit finer, 400, the result is even better, if possible.

Will this also work with my Fällkniven RC4 and is using the ceramic side out of the question? I'd imagine it can damage the ceramic?

An excellent tip. I would be interested to know how long this method of sharpening lasts. However Felix my poor old Swiss Army Knife hasn't even got a saw 😕 Love your tips, cheers 🍻
Good question ... I know no reason why the saw should quickly dull with this method. ATB Felix
It also works on hair trimmer blades in the same way, I use a set of Wahl clippers every week and only hone the blade twice a year.

Or you could send it to the Victorinox and let them sharpen it for you, I think it's lifetime warranty and it's free I think so you don't f*ck up you're Swissknife, it's two things they would replace it if they can't fix it but it's up to because some of them has sentimental value like mine because it's a gift from my Mom, so if you don't want it to be replaced they would probobly just return it to you or if you get lucky they would return it and give you another one or a mini one 😅

Hallo Felix, ich schärfe meine Victorinox Säge tatsächlich Zahn für Zahn und habe bis her sehr gute Ergebnisse erzielt. Ok Ich bin ja ach gelernter Schneidwerkzeugmechaniker :-) und ist ja quasi mein Handwerk, aber ich denke auch ein Laie kann das. Deine Methode geht natürlich wesentlich schneller, trägt aber auch mehr Material von der Säge ab. Alles immer ein für uns wieder. Gruß André
Ich sagte ja im Video: "Forget it, if you are not a realy pro!" 😂😂😂 Wer zwischen den Zähnen mit der Diamantfeile irgenwie herumschmirgelt und nicht 100% weiss was er macht, der macht seine Säge stumpf.. das ist für mich klar. Ich habe mal versucht eine Sägezahnung zu feilen. Ich hatte Null Chance das die Säge auch nur annähernd so agressiv wird die aus der Schleifmaschine. LG Felix

Felix, I love your SAK ideas, but as a carpenter all you are doing is removing the kerf of the saw blade, but not sharpening , or improving the cutting ability of the saw blade.

Zwar benutze ich ebenfalls einen Victorinox-Wundermesser (einen - seit über 25 Jahren - ohne Säge, von vor Kurzem, einen "mit einer Säge") Machte mir schon Gedanken, wie ich die Säge immer fit kriege - Dein Tipp war mir zur Hand. Nur kurz nochmal eine Frage. Die Sägeklinge wird bei dieser Methode absolut plan (bzw. flach) aufgelegt, oder versuchst du einen minimalen Winkel in Richtung der Sägezähne aufzubauen? Wie sieht es mit dem Druck aus; eher leichten Druck ausüben, oder?

I'd like to share my personal experience with sharpening a Victorinox saw.
At first I used a long thin edge of white (fine) triangular stones from Spyderco sharpener, making strokes between teeth in both directions (in and out). It made the saw definitely worse. Didn't cut wood at all but still mooved.
Then I used Felix's approach with sand paper on a flat surface. And the teeth got very sharp immediately. But the saw get caught in wood almost every stroke.
Because, even though it's not a normal saw with teeth bent out, they should not be in a line with blade I thought. I tried this method three times. No success.
Then, again, I took a triangular Spyderco stone but this time a brown one. I did strokes only in one direction (out of the blade) two times between each couple of teeth .
Then did it with another side of the blade. The angle is neerly 40 degrees.
I used the first groove on a tip of the blade as an angle guideline.
And it worked.
Eventually I can use my saw almost like it's new again.

Best advice ever!! I've used this trick many many many times and it works super good I use some 2000 grit and 2500 grit wet dry paper and it's left sticky sharp even better that new every time and it's always that sharp when I need it !!!

Great tip .. knife maintenance is often over looked. Any saw is difficult to sharpen, you can ruin your saw if you dont do it right. Your Tip is perfect to keep the blade at its best. i am not sure though if i grate a lot of cheese with my knife i have all that much to worry about except cleaning the cheese thoroughly. Sticks and construction of wood tools and things is a whole other thing. I have used that saw for things in a pinch where it was the perfect tool for the job... Oh by the way the can opener video was great too... i always thought that can opener was serious .. and it is.. thanks for sharing the knowledge..
