I've never really been a big DLC buyer as I've usually moved on completely by the time the content releases, but this review did a fantastic job at reminding me how much I loved Eastward and how chill this looks. This is an instant pick up from me! This really is such a bargain. I adore the original Eastward and tend to love games in the "cozy" sort of genre,, so having a more relaxed game with the same characters and charm as the original is absolutely perfect. The pixel art looks as gorgeous as ever!
Reminds me back when dlc was a beloved idea full fledged new areas and mission decent hours, nowadays its just one mission a weapon set and maybe a animal companion lol glad eastward devs came through

Eastward is always the first game I recommend to friends looking for a real hidden gem on the switch. Loved the first game and being 1k hours deep in stardew made this dlc a no brainer. I'm ~5hours in and feel in love all over. can't recommend it enough and I hope more people will play the first game now as well.

Would it be unwise to play the dlc before completing the main game? Love the farm sim style and I can definitely do the 20 hours but so far I haven't found the time for the full main game. Dumb idea? Or should I just pony up and get cracking on eastward first?
So happy this dlc turned out so well and that we can return to Eastward's world. Eastward's presentation and vibes are perfect for this genre and in my opinion the pixel art makes Octopia prettier than most games in the genre. The price is madness
I agree. They should just go full fledged farming sim like stardew valley. Where you watch the kid grow up(to teen, then adult) and ultimately john grows old and has to be cared for until he passes away. Treat it respectfully but realistically(dialogue wise/non gameplay). It could go from light hearted and simple gameplay- to full on sim- then bring in the deep heavier life subject matter, like a novel.. where by the end the gamer would feel all of the emotional pull of it. Like after an oscar winning, epic period piece. And why not when the games got probably the best pixel art style ever created.
The main title, Eastward was so quirky and charming and Octopia is somehow MORE charming and quirky. Such a steal and so good for a farming sim, starts out a little slow but I love seeing the leaves of the friends we made in Eastward again. Only let down is I feel like they robbed us of the cooking mechanic, I mean in Eastward it was a whole thing, and the fishing in this is great but the cooking, so boring missing that element
I’m really not into farming sims, but you know what, I’m going to give this one a go. The base game was fantastic and the very reasonably priced DLC I think for expanding already mentioned great game is fair. Hats off to the devs for not going for a basic money grab… the fans will remember this ❤
Just hearing the soundtrack brings tears a grown mans eyes. Eastward managed to make me feel something truly special, few games hit me as hard as it did. This game is the definition of gem. I was so happy to see a dlc but also wierded out by the farming sim format. Either way I knew it was gonna deliver. Thank you Chucklefish and SwitchUp for bringing attention to this game
I’m currently working my way through Eastward, I’m at chp5 & loving it. It’s not a difficult game but it is fun. The cooking is better than zeldas with a funky tune I find myself dancing to. I think people who wanted DLC were probably looking at more of the same but I’m good with this, loved stardew valley, so eastward in that universe is great. I wonder if John will talk?
This looks really sweet for people that like the farm sim genre, and those who love the characters and want to spend a little more time with them. I played the demo for the original game and it wasn't my thing, but I definitely understand it's charm and why so many people love it

That said, since it was based on one of my favorite games ever (eastward) it at least got me to try out a genre that I’ve completely been turned off by, so that was a success in and of itself!
Got sidetracked with other games, so I haven't finished Eastward yet. Just finished Prince of Persia the Lost Crown (fun game). Now I am picking up Eastward (another fun game) again. Gonna be picking up the DLC for sure.

Not a fan of Sam's new get item animation. Also not sure what to make of the "boy having lost his toy"-line in the opening cutscene. I knew i'd get me into a kind of farming sim, a formula I couldn't care less about. But I'm still ok with buying the DLC since I very much liked the main game to the point of several playthroughs... So a few extra bucks towards its creators won't kill me. Shame those design revisions though, but oh well. Have fun everybody!

The combination seems somewhat random, but thinking about it, playing through adventure games personally gets me in the farming sim mood (my delusional dream would be a Zelda farming sim). I haven't played Eastward yet so I don't know whether that would be the case here, but I know I'm gonna have to get that DLC either way!

Wow. Eastward is one of the best games on Switch, and I’m way more impressed with this farming sim than I expected that I would be. Probably just because of that beautiful art style, and my relationship to these characters, because I’m not much a farm sim type of guy generally.
This looks so cosy and amazing, honestly so excited to try this out. I wonder if this DLC will be included in the new Physical edition that Iam8bit are putting out? I did ask and they gave a very vague answer, which is frustrating because i want this game physical in one complete package
Not sure how much you guys are familiar with Chucklefish, but they have a pretty awful history quite literally not paying their workers. Please look up what happend with Starbound, and the awful stuff that Chucklefish did and how they abandoned the game after it all.
I think so many games need a dlc like this. It would prevent post game depression if you can just build your home and town and have a nice place to go back to your world you love so much. One game in particular even though not on the switch.. but baldurs gate 3.. if you could help rebuild the town and just farm and stuff and I could still bang shadowheart whenever I want ^_^
I’m only a couple days in but it’s great to hear that that cooking/recipe crafting component ramps up because I was I little disappointed by the simplicity at first. Also excited to get to the mining portion. Seems like pixpil just can’t resist adding a little game within a game and I’m all for it.

Fast travel points appear later in the game, at least they do in the Steam version which I assume is identical. They appear, as the narrator of Mr Ben used to say, "Suddenly, as if by magic." Honestly, I have no idea what I did for them to appear.

I finished the main game like 10 days ago and was so stoked to have more, more of the same world and people with a new spin, and no need to replay, even tho I'd love a true NG+ since I missed a lot of secrets and 1 sam's ability. I have to admit I miss beating stuff with the pan!
Im sorry guys, im a big fan of the channel, but this review misses the mark. I think the cost is scewing your appraisal of the ofher ratings. The gameplay is a 12 tops. There are vast chunks of the game where there is nothing to do and you are forced to sleep days over and over until a character to progress the story arrives. I was convinced i have to be missing something, but no, there's regularly nothing to do but wait. The perfromance shold be slated too. The frame rate is poor during the fishing game and crashes are pretty common. Theres also a post game event that just isnt occuring for most people. Money isnt the only currency, and the other categories should be assessed indepewndent of cost. They shoukd have reduced the waiting periods and cut this down to a 5-10 hour game.
In love with this, Eastward is still one of my favourite games of all time and this DLC couldn't be closer to perfect really. It compliments the main game so well and you can tell the developers genuinely love this world and good grief, it shows. The only thing that I would add is that you probably need to have pkayed throufh the main game to get the most out of this one, which, I'm guessing, is why they chose to release this as a DLC rsther than a seperate game.

The gameplay is a 12 tops. There are vast chunks of the game where there is nothing to do and you are forced to sleep days over and over until a character to progress the story arrives. I was convinced i have to be missing something, but no, there's regularly nothing to do but wait.
The perfromance shold be slated too. The frame rate is poor during the fishing game and crashes are pretty common. Theres also a post game event that just isnt occuring for most people.
Money isnt the only currency, and the other categories should be assessed indepewndent of cost. They shoukd have reduced the waiting periods and cut this down to a 5-10 hour game.
In love with this, Eastward is still one of my favourite games of all time and this DLC couldn't be closer to perfect really. It compliments the main game so well and you can tell the developers genuinely love this world and good grief, it shows.
The only thing that I would add is that you probably need to have pkayed throufh the main game to get the most out of this one, which, I'm guessing, is why they chose to release this as a DLC rsther than a seperate game.
I’m surprised at the price for this DLC, that’s a lot of new game content from such a small developer… can get a full dlc expansion of an indie game for about same price as a loot box from a greedy developer 🤯
