A country is a nation's home. If I am a guest in someone's home I am not entitled to participation in the decision making. If I am a foreigner in Switzerland I am not entitled to vote and there is nothing wrong about it.
If you were born in that house, you have been raised by that household, you are working with and for them and you and your children will stay there, you're not a guest anymore and you should be given the right to have a say in decisions that will be affecting you and your family.
By this analogy, the EU is like an open office, with open passages between the homes of nations: you can go visit, get to know the friendly neighborhood.
I'm an immigrant myself, even if not in Switzerland. But I think that if I want to gather citizenship of my new home country, I for sure have to make an effort on my own part: either through influencing my fellow citizens to recognise my worthiness and vote in my favor; or by going through the existing procedures set by the government and authorities to get naturalized. This is so damn unfair, I thought. My country will never be like Switzerland, because my compatriots have historically developed a mentality of the poor and slaves, ready to work for a penny, who, moreover, are not able to give rise to a single worthy and intelligent ruler - only thieves and clowns who year after year plunder the country, giving away its wealth to Western puppeteers for nothing. I respectfully disagree. I'm a foreigner living in this country and all I did was to genuinely show respect and enthusiasm for they way of life. I regarded the chance of being here like an enormous privilege. That's my stance on it. Even in a small village of old people in Berner Oberland I didn't encounter that much barriers. As long as people see that you are playing by the rules, you don't look for any shortcuts in doing things right, than you don't feel excluded. I'm now living in a town with many foreigners. I do miss the times when letting my bike in front of the house unlocked didn't mean a higher chance of having it stolen. Please, don't get me wrong. There are very nice and correct people in every single nation of the Earth. Unfortunately, in some cases you need to dig harder to find those people.

I'm a foreigner living in this country and all I did was to genuinely show respect and enthusiasm for they way of life. I regarded the chance of being here like an enormous privilege. That's my stance on it. Even in a small village of old people in Berner Oberland I didn't encounter that much barriers. As long as people see that you are playing by the rules, you don't look for any shortcuts in doing things right, than you don't feel excluded.
I'm now living in a town with many foreigners. I do miss the times when letting my bike in front of the house unlocked didn't mean a higher chance of having it stolen. Please, don't get me wrong. There are very nice and correct people in every single nation of the Earth. Unfortunately, in some cases you need to dig harder to find those people.

Agree, I only wish any US President would put equal rights into the constitution and not depend on the courts for the obvious. It takes a little work but it would easily get ratified by all the states and then that would be that. It should have happened a very very long time ago.
