Another great vid, Rowan. Thanks so much. I remember hearing the distinct tone of the new electronic bells in my town growing up. I also remember going from two crossings in town having gates (the highway crossing and the one closest to the elementary and high schools) to all crossings having gates. That was so exciting for me as a kid. I lived two blocks from a crossing that went from no gates to gates. It was an added bonus being able to watch the gates go down and come back up. Like you said in the vid, so many people are probably thinking, how geeky is that? For true train fans, it’s a pretty awesome thing, especially as a child. I still love them even now, though. Also thanks for stating “there are no stupid questions here.” If you’re just a fan and not in the biz, you don’t know all the lingo and technical terms and I’m so glad you help bring that to everyone. Keep up the great work! Later tater!

@@RailfanRowan and here's my honest answer I don't know 😕. All three of you bring different styles of railfanning and coverage. One day I am watching one of more then the author then the next day I am watching the author one more then the author. So I don't have a favorite. I mean recently I have bean watching you the most so I guess you are my favorite

Did you notice the bell is always at the top of the signal to keep irate neighbors from muffing or disabling it? 🙉

I will be looking for mechanical bells now in South Eastern Ohio. I know you've talked about getting a drone, it would give you lots of options on new perspectives.
I appreciate the knowledge and passion that goes into your videos

It is really nice that you made this video, I greatly appreciate it. There is only one crossing near me on CSX,s Chicago line that has mechanical bells. And after watching this video I want to go there more before it goes bye bye.

In my town we have one of the first E Bells produced. The ASC E Bell type 2. The type one is incredibly rare. We also have only one Safetran Mechanical bell.

There are no more mechanical bells left in my area of Michigan. While the mechanical's are not a loud as the electronic version, the "old school" are much more pleasing. Nice job on preserving the past system while they are still in service.
