There's something beautiful in a franchise built on "we don't know if we'll get a sequel so we'll sort of finish the story every time and retcon it in the next".
Yeah, and they somehow keep bringing you back regardless, for me it's the Resident Evil and the Underworld and Riddick movie franchises

Literally every single one of Paul W.S Anderson’s modern movies are just him trying to show off how “badass” his wife (Mila jojovich) is and that’s it. Everything else be damned.
And we got over it with the 3rd movie.
With every single installment they just added more characters with names from the games and they were side characters to Super Alice

The fact they retconned the ending to Retribution is worthy of 1000 sins to me, and what happened to most of the characters from the last movie?
That's what I thought too. And there was no mention of that big fucking room with all those Ppl and alice prime in stasis in the first movie either it's like how did they not know they were down there
They all died sadly (except Becky, daughter of clone Alice from 5) and it's all explained in the novelization of the movie 🙏🏻

@@BabaNovac792 Actually it was mentioned in this movie, albeit very briefly. The whole thing was a setup by Wesker and he basically killed everyone. Except for Alice because plot armor.
The worst bit for me was that the ENTIRE plot of the second movie revolves around a little girl that was the original model for the Red Queen. Then they come to this movie and do the “it was all Alice the whole time” nonsense. You said “they made it up as they went” and “retconned” and damn if that doesn’t sum these up.

I still remember the day I saw it in the cinema. Everyone was feeling sick from the crazy editing. People were actively complaining about feeling ill. There was an old guy that actually puked. It's not the worst editing ever, but it's up there for sure.

The worst part about the whole franchise is not showing the final fight at the White House fight that they set up.
This. They canned what would had been Leon, Ada... for this movie??? They need 100 sins off the bat for that.
Not gonna lie, I was REALLY looking forward to that setup.
It was such a rip off how we never saw it unfold. The last bastion of humanity’s already doomed, yet they fought on anyway. And somehow Wesker managed to escape despite hostile skies. 🤷♂️

The amount of inconsistencies and retcons in this movie franchise from movie to movie is hilarious. Also you gotta love when a movie ends on a badass cliffhanger and teases something amazing only to undo it right at the beginning. And these movies do that alot.

@@babytoshiro7014 Because in the novelization of the movie the White House battle showing characters like Ada, Leon, and Jill getting melted by a giant blob like t virus creature called the Malange that was created by those spike shooting bat dragon things, in the novel a trigger released those bat things that all of them launched their spikes into the massive river of t virus creatures swarming the White House lawn and it was triggered by Wesker, the main characters of Ada, Leon, and Jill all get grabbed by the blob like creature and its acid like skin melts them and dissolves them.
Than a low yield nuke gets dropped on DC wiping it out as we see Alice emerging safely from the presidential bunker door hatch.
In the novel it took only 2 paragraphs to kill them off including the deaf clone girl Becky.
She didn’t make it neither.
Don’t worry Paul SW Anderson loves to shit on capcom game series’s cause he later make a another giant piece of shit with his wife as the star and sole survivor Monster Hunter.

Resident Evil: The Final Retcon would be a more appropriate title because… what is actually consistent through this whole franchise, beyond Alice’s goddess status?
From memory, we first have Jorah being upgraded from lowly scientist guy to one of the leading board members of Umbrella. Why? Well because Ian Glen went and got himself all popular on Game of Thrones, silly, so they had to capitalise on that fame while it lasted.
Then we have Wesker going from Alice’s dubious ally to “betraying” her in DC meaning Alice had to leave the city. Why? Well because the Red Queen is now played by Paul and Mia’s daughter which means she’s the good guy of course, silly, which also contradicts the earlier claim the Red Queen was based on Angie Ashford but consistency, what’s that???
Then there’s Alice’s adoptive daughter going to live with Chris, Claire and K Mart in Whocaresville because they’re not important for the story, only Alice matters, silly!
Then there’s Alice being special because of her superpowers or whatever because she’s the original and Umbrella can’t clone her, but nope, the original Alice was one of Jorah’s fellow shareholders, meaning there should be nothing special about Alice at all, right?
It’s like the movie expects you to remember things, vaguely remember other things and forget other things ALL AT THE SAME TIME! There isn’t even an attempt at consistency here, and if Paul was ever trying to write real scripts for these movies, this was when he just completely gave up and devolved into unadulterated FanFiction of his wife.
I’d say that was fine so long as they’re happy, but a stunt double lost their life while filming this movie. Nothing about this was worth a person’s LIFE.
I looked it up but I can only find a stunt woman losing an arm, not anybody dying? Not that it's much better...
Makes you wonder why they didn't just, oh I don't know, adapt the game story instead.

Let's be real: all of Anderson's Movies featuring his Wife in the Lead Role feel like badly written FanFiction. Monster Hunter just proved that anew.
The stunt double in question didn't die, but she was critically wounded. The fatality was just some crew member who got crushed by a Hummer.

One of the biggest issues with his plan, besides the countless dead, is that it destroyed the environment too, as said in the 3rd movie "lakes dried up and whole forests reduced to nothing but wasteland". Kind hard to change that crap

They forgot about that shit by the 4th movie. It was mentioned only to artificially make the stakes higher, and to justify the third movie being set in a desert (because the USA apparently has no deserts).

Regarding the “black umbrellas,” I was friends with someone years ago who went to school to be a mortician, and he was taught that funeral homes usually invest in between 50-100 black umbrellas as a courtesy for the mourners.
Not that I’m trying to defend this dumpster fire, I’m just pointing out a reason for the truth behind the trope. Usually it’s dark and rainy, too.

Fun fact: before the invention of the elevator, the use of a raising platform held together by a series of vines and clothes hangers was the transportation method that allowed people, zombies, and just chilling around pterodactyls to access a structure's higher floors.

This movie went so crazy with the jump-cuts, I felt like I was getting motion sickness & epilepsy at the same time. In most of the action sequences, I had absolutely no idea what was happening.
Yea the beginning made no sense at all. Guess they wanted to emphasize that action was going on. Made it very hard to watch

RE5 Wesker: infects himself with a deadly virus, moves at superhuman speed and can fight everyone at the same time, refuses to die when falling from a chopper and refuses to melt in lava.

The fact I can't remember anything about ANY of these movies except the first one says all I need to know about the unforgettable quality of it. I'm sure 15 year old me thought it was cool af though.
RE2 was pretty neat.
The main thing I remember is from the movie taking place in a prison. An 8ft tall, black-cloaked mutant wielding a giant hammer that bashed in the gate after the zombies failed to get in. I'd freakin run if I ever encountered him, lol.

The first 4 was great 5 was boring and the final chapter contradicts everything about the first 5 films
i know this series is really convoluted but im surprised you didnt sin Wesker(who also is a super human) dies by having his leg cut off. Whereas in the 4th movie he has 2 full mags dumped into his head and comes back.
The most fascinating thing about this movie series is how they are consistently credited with one writer, and yet each one after keeps changing details that were set up in previous films! And yadda-yadding minor details is one thing, but yadda-yadding your whole big battle setup is downright sinful.

Bonus Sin: Most military humvees dont have ignition keys. So her hopping in the humvee and starting it with turning keys make no sense. Plus 10 sins

I don't know how the US military deals with surplus vehicles but in Australia you can buy out-of-service Range Rovers, which are bare-basic with no door locks & push-button ignition. The thing is though, that they can't be registered as road-legal or insured unless they're converted to have door locks and key-start ignition installed, because they could be stolen super easy otherwise.
Maybe the same could said of that Humvee?

To me this movies was ok to watch and had some ok moments but man I wanted to see the Washington fight so badly it looked so cool and epic and also makes me wonder why they made her go and save that little girl if they were just gonna offscreen take her out like the others as well. But the biggest sin to me is how Wesker was taken out dude went thru so much and gets taken out by a door? Bro what the hell kind of crude is that? It also that one tiny vial was gonna save the world? Yeeeeeeeeeah no dude I don’t believe it.
My biggest problem with this movie was the God of resident evil Albert Wesker being killed by a door The Man that can grab an airborne RPG heading straight towards him he also took a City destroying nuke and survived not to mention Wesker can literally evade bullets with back flips and reflex's he can also just faze out from place to place

The Wesker one is kind of understandable but poorly executed and ofc lame as hell. He got rid of his powers being afraid the antivirus would kill him so it only took some doors to kill him easily but it is still dumb.

The first sin should be that there are SIX of these, "I'm-Paul-S-Anderson, I-Can't-direct-for-shit-and-competing-with-Uwe-Bolls-for-number-of-shitty-video-game-based-movies." shit feats that take even the somewhat stupid Resident Evil lore and make it even dumber, and they're excuses to just have his wife as the MC, which Rob Zombie also does,but Rob doesn't pretend he's making good movies like Paul does.
Though as shitty as these movies are, they're Oscar nominees compared to that fucking travesty that was the Netflix live-action Resident Evil series.

It is laughable how they kept saying they altered this movie from the previous ones because "everyone was asking: who is Alice?" I watched these with friends. We loved how awful they were. Never, not once, did any one of us ASK who Alice was. We knew she was their little Resident Evil OC Mary Sue character. For real: NO FANS were asking about Alice.

The live action RE films were a guilty pleasure of mine growing up. This is the only one that I couldn't finish, not because of how unbelievably aids it is, but the shaky cam was literally making me sick

Basically these films are Resident Evil fanfiction where Paul's OC is the most important person in the story.

I’ve tried watching this movie probably 5 or 6 times and I just can’t get through it…
I would give back every sin if someone actually got eaten by a grue (even off-screen, since it has to be in the dark)
The Asian markets kept this franchise alive and the same market is gonna keep The Meg alive until Meg is in space
So the ending with the giant bats kinda makes sense now. It foreshadows Alice fighting giant monsters in the monster hunter movie with Ongbak

I love mila jovovich .i admired her coz of the RE movies and her character alice but this movie didn't even make sense to me coz of all the plot holes like what happened to all the zombies attacking the white house and the characters that were there like ada , leon , jill etc and did they all die ? movie never explained what happened to K-Mart, Chris and Becky... They gave hints at Angie's fate in Excintion, unless you never read the novelization.... They probably couldn't kill of Jill, Ada and Leon, because Capcom already struggles with killing of Barry in Retribution, so those characters just dissapeared.

The potential this had to bring it home strong and instead we got this trash. I thought they wouldve picked up in DC and show a huge battle with the whole squad then head to the hive where they split up an each encounter a main boss from the campaign and then have a final battle with wesker but naw.

The B.O.W. Dragon/Bat looking thing is, well, a B.O.W., same deal as like, the Lickers and such. Umbrella engineered these things from a conglomeration of DNA from other animals, and did their creepy mutate-ey virus thing that they usually do.
In the games, however, these things mutated out of the bodies of those infected by the Uroboros Virus in the 5th Game, and were MUCH smaller. So I have no clue.
How about a movie with marathon runners who are zombies? Running strong for 2 to 3 hours, getting brains along the route instead of water etc...

One of my biggest sins is, back when Alice had her army cline and was attacking all the various hives. Around the globe and clearing the umbrella goons out, why didn't she ever take one over for herself as a base of operations? I mean she clearly had access to they're systems and equipment. Like hey, let's just abandon this super high tech facility with years worth of supplies instead of making it a base and maybe sending survivors here for safety and the continuation of mankind.
Oh, and the fact that after the first year or say all those DEAD DECAYING zombies would be immobile, least the big standard ones would be. And id day pronly another year after that most of the big nutated ones would have starved to death for lack of food.
When I went to see it that movie volume was so loud that it was actually painful.

And can’t believe it’s been 6 years now since this movie came out and that’s crazy too I remember Dead Space Remake came out the exact same day as Resident Evil Final Chapter came out on January 27, 2017 and Dead Space Remake January 27, 2023 6 years it’s been and this is the six installment of the Resident Evil franchise we’re all the odds huh 🤔 lol 😂
I know it's one of many inconsistencies but having the red queen say she values human life is sunk when you remember the laser security sequence from RE1. There are much more human ways to incapacitate people than cutting lasers. No lethal games or simply removing oxygen until people pass out are good options
