I love your videos! I have learned a lot and have since started school myself. I personally attend an online school in TX, Arlington Career Institute. I chose this school because it was NCRA approved and they also accept financial aid which was what made my education possible, for those who are needing that. I’m only one month into my schooling but I am loving it!
Okay pls make a video on interjecting while reporting. I’m a student and I know interjecting is the norm in real life and would love to have some phrases I can practice and get comfortable with! And thanks for making these videos 😊
Thank you for making videos about court reporting and advocating for our profession! I would have loved to watch your videos three years ago when I had just heard about court reporting! 🤩
I was a court reporter for fifteen years in a small court in Indiana. When I was in college in 1980 we learned computer aided transcription (CAT) but I never made the transition to computer - I was strictly typewriter transcription manually from my steno notes. Looking back it was a fascinating profession for me as a young person. All the slouching over a stenograph machine led to a lot of shoulder and neck issues but years later and completely recovered I have a lot of great memories from a lot of fun and crazy cases.
Can you do a video about how to take care of yourself physically in this profession? I’ve heard it can be very strenuous on your neck, back, and even cause carpal tunnel. Have you dealt with these issues?
Please make a video on interjecting! It sounds so scary and would be a great resource. Also, would you be able to explain the exams you had to take to be certified in Texas? I was also reading online that you have to continue your education and get re-certified every two years. Could you talk a bit about what that looks like?
Yes, please make a video on interjecting. i am someone in cr school and that would be so helpful! also, i love your vids! thank u for all the cr content!!
If you live in Houston or near that area, Mark Kislingbury's school is the best in my opinion! I am a little biased because I attended his school, but I enjoyed my time there so much! They do have in person and online classes. Another school you could look into in that area is, I believe, the University of Houston downtown. They have a court reporting program and also teach Mark's theory, If I am remembering correctly.
As a freelance Court Reporter, do you do your own production or do you have a firm do it? I guess I am wondering what you do when you have a mass amount of exhibits that need to be scanned or printed for copies and if there are any oversized exhibits what do you normally do? And do you print and bind your own transcripts?
Can you do a video about your experience in school? Which speed did you get stuck at? What were your hurdles? I desperately need encouragement! I am attending online school, and I am struggling at 120-130. Thank you!
Hi, thank you for your videos. If you do another Q&A my question is: are you at all worried about AI taking over in the years to come and your job becoming obsolete? I am thinking about starting school but am also nervous that 3 years from now AI will be advanced enough for that to be a possibility. Thanks!
I doubt it. AI can't discern between accents/thick accents or speech impediments. AI can't annotate non-verbal and observed actions, such as when someone marks an exhibit or enters or leave the room. AI can't perform readbacks, repeat backs, or playbacks. AI also can't ask questions to verify the spelling of proper nouns.
I liked this video I doing more research on this video alot you answer more questions I need to know and I new subscriber by the way and I do like typing in being on a computer so thank give us more video chole on court reporting I be 34 in 4 months I be looking up school either in north carolina
I've tried to contact someone at the ATOZ program, I've called 3 different days multiple times and can't speak to a human. Is there any other free course out there to try it to see if its right for me?
Hi, Chloe! There are no accredited schools in my state (NV), are there any accredited online schools/programs that i could take, so I can get certified?
I don’t blame you I have had that thought also in the midst of doing my research but so far all articles and majority of court reporters say or know for a fact there is no need to worry about AI taking over the field and that the job security will always be there especially for ones who choose to be a full time court reporter for a firm. It’s a field that the job growth will always be steady and the job will always be needed.
Hi! My daughter is interested in court reporting. I have a question. How do you navigate cursing in your reports? Have you ever been asked to repeat things?
Hi! I am in CR school. While this type of dialogue is not in our dictations, I would assume the CR has the obligation to write down every word (curse words included) for the record. There is no sugar coating what one may hear!
Do a sit down interview with your mom or interview other court reporters!

Yes, please do a video interviewing your mom if she's interested. Also, what are your goals within court reporting?

I’m really interested in court reporting but I’m nervous about the job security with AI and stuff like that.
