    Agreed . The Canon 50 1.8 is clearly my best investment considering the results and the price point.

    100% agree with this video. I am pretty new on photography, got a 50mm 1.8 Yongnuo for my Canon and already know that I need a wide lens for the shoot I lile

    • @TheHatMusic

      I use a 35mm f1.8 on my APS-C Nikon as it gives virtually the same field of view as the 50mm on my film SLRs does, which is useful in taking some of the guess work out of where to stand when framing a shot. With the crop sensor, it's a very nice focal length to work with.

    • @ItsJonnyKeeley
      @ItsJonnyKeeley  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a good shout. 35 will feel the same, and if you go full frame the 35 1.8 is a brilliant lens.

    Hi Jonny, thank you so much for this informative video. I wanted to ask you is this lens compatible with Sony a6000? In your professional opinion is this camera still a good beginner’s camera to learn photography? Thank you in advance! 🙏

    I have it for my Canon 70D. But with the crop it's about a 85mm equivalent. Too much crop for me. But if I ever buy a full frame I'll start using it again.

    • @ItsJonnyKeeley
      @ItsJonnyKeeley  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I touched on this in the video but didn’t want to go into it too much so as not to overload the beginners

    Rather slick video there matey! As an additional thought, as mirrorless cameras lend themselves well to using lens mount adapters, you can save even more money by getting older manual focus 50mm f1.8s to see if you actually like the focal length. A lens and adapter can be had for as little as £30 on ebay, and if you do like the focal length, you always have the option to flip them again and get something built for your platform of choice.
    ... also, is that a Korg Minilogue in the background?

      @ItsJonnyKeeley  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The ART lenses are really nice, I wouldn’t compare them to entry level lenses though they can be pretty pricey. Personally if I was shooting APS-C and spending out I’d get the sigma ART 35 for the versatility or just the Sony 35 1.8. That 50 is super nice though.

    • @IliasKoureas
      @IliasKoureas 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ItsJonnyKeeley the 56mm is not an art lens, its only for apsc and its really cheap (compared to art lenses) and sharpest lens someone can get for the system. you can get it new around 300. Much better value over all than the traditional sony 50mm. But this applies only for Crop sensor users :)

    Hello Johnny, im a beginner and start with a 150 mm lens. On that you can also use 50 mm. Is there a difference between the 50 mm lens and the 50 mm on a 150 mm lens?

    • @ItsJonnyKeeley
      @ItsJonnyKeeley  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The area of 50mm on the 150mm lens will be the same frame but a less shallow depth of field as it very likely has a smaller aperture. The 150 is probably f4 or f5.6 whereas the 50mm prime is f1.8 which results in a shallower depth of field (which means more blurry background).

    Hmmm good video spoilt in the last few moments.... 'Upgrade to full frame', are you trying to say that crop and M4/3 is for beginners? Thought we'd finally dispelled that stereo-type. Many pros use M4/3 and crop and may be very offended by the thought that moving to full frame was an upgrade! By this logic, all pros need to be upgrading to 8 x 10.. the original full frame!

    • @TheHatMusic
      @TheHatMusic 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure that the point was that you *must* upgrade to full frame as a pro, but that if you chose to go down that route, a 50mm on a budget friendly crop sensor camera would allow that particular upgrade path to be carried out in stages, rather than requiring a complete platform change in one go.
      All the pros I know who shoot M4/3 do so based on some specific reason as to why it works for their style of photography, but it's always been decided based experience and they all use fairly high end setups, so in their case, it's "upgrade to M4/3". I think the upgrade part of it in this case is more upgrading from a basic setup to a more full featured setup, whether that is using a larger or smaller sensor.

    • @ItsJonnyKeeley
      @ItsJonnyKeeley  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Put simply, the a5100 to the A7rii as described in the video is an upgrade.
      Please find the part in the video where I say m4/3 is for beginners.
