We meet Dr. Stevens, a psychiatrist, on her first day back to work since burying her sister. Tasked with paying a visit to a radically religious family who believe their Mother is possessed, hospitality turns to contempt when the family discovers Dr. Stevens is an atheist.

CREATIVE MISSION:
This film seeks to explore the dangers of keeping ourselves overly distracted while suffering traumatic events or losses. Furthermore, it explores the contrasting conclusions drawn on 'possession' as diagnosed by religion versus psychiatry.

Holy shit. After it ended I said out loud, to no one, “wow...that was awesome...it was fantastic.” I was taken aback by it. The 80’s vibe and music, the atheist experiencing a dream before she knocked on the door, never even knocking on the door in either state. The devil turning into her sister, back into human form and talking to her in that voice inches from her face...really, really, really awesome in all possible film manner. Production, actors, location, everything. I would love to see more of this story, before, after, and more of your work...past or future. Beautiful work.

All these short films in "horror" or "sci fi" seem to have a horror of conclusions!

For the Catholic Church to perform an Exorcism, one of the conditions is that all medical and psychological reasons for the behaviour of the "possessed" needs to ruled out. Hence the request for psychiatrist to evaluate the mother to eliminate or diagnose any mental illness. True possession is exceedingly rare and usually explained by schizophrenia or epilepsy.

I don't know about other denominations, but the Roman Catholic Church won't even consider an exorcism unless all other possibilities have been eliminated. For example, mental illness, epilepsy, dementia and so forth.

Damn that scared me as much as the exorcist did. I was raised Pentecostal and my grandmother would always showing me these pamphlets of overseas missionaries performing exorcisms and she told me on several occasions that a demon had been running around her bed so that kind of stuff has always freaked me out from an early age. Well done horror short. Thanks for scaring the living shit out of me!!! Keep making great shorts! 😏 😈

The psychiatrist didn't deal with the hostility from the man very well. They are taught techniques to resolve conflict with family members and patients almost from day 1 of training. She certainly wouldn't snigger when he challenged her for her beliefs.
Still, I enjoyed this; very good!!

Not particularly religious myself but what really scares me about angels and demons is how charming, or especially good looking, they can seem to be if they wanted to. Think Nick Thurston totally killed it here, the whole vibe wow good choice on the casting

I know this is from 2 years ago but I just saw this recently. That actor is Nick Thurston. He’s an amazing actor, he was in a movie called Reviving Ophelia, good movie

This is exactly the opposite concept of what ‘The Exorcist’ is all about. A completely spectacular film that will keep you second guessing until at the last moment.
When does the series start?

Maybe this is short but it has a great dark atmosphere especially when the conversation take place. And i love when a director choosing the devil theme in their film.

Doc Michael's threw Stevens all the way under the damn bus.
This is basically Father Merrin blowing off Pazuzu and sending Karras instead.
Stevens is emotionally vulnerable and guilt ridden over her sister's death.
Just like Damien was about his Mom, wasn't an atheist but dealing with a crisis of faith.
Kudos to the actor playing the devil, he nailed it.

‘The House Call’ is right up my alley.Thinking it merely a nod to Friedken/Blatty’s masterpiece, the film took an unexpected turn when I realised to whom Dr.Stevens was actually speaking at the house. Edit: Slick production/direction/acting with demonic elements = SOLD.

This was very well done with very involved acting, a spot on pacing, set design, even the open title typography...and of course the fright factor. Wow. Would like to see where else this goes. I bet the main female character starts to question her atheism since science certainly can't explain everything. The spiritual realm (good/holy and bad/evil sides) are a reality.
