I agree with using white LEDs under the water. I also installed a floating multi colored ring around my fountain head. the fountain looks amazing spraying up from the pond, while my water, and fish remain natural. :-)

i prefer my natural looking backyard koi pond to the pool turned into koi pond. great video though, I do enjoy the beauty of your koi.

I prefer lights out of the pond shining down as they do not show the particles floating in the water .Makes the water cloudy and fuzzy and shines in your eyes .LED's shining down look much better .Try both out and see how you like them and see which you prefer .Plus out of water lights are a lot cheaper and you don't get the hassle of blown bulbs or leaking cases .Non LED lights give off heat also

I have a led 18 volt portable light with a diffuser that I set up whenever I am at my pond at dark because my pond is a pond and not a pool next to the house with access to easy power... Does just fine and does not require adding more wires cause my pumps and filters already take up alot of circuits plus I have 3 aquatic turtles who would be majorly pissed off if there was a light on them all the time... They have this behavior called sleep... And prefer to do it in the dark..

don't lights effect fish sleep habits? Or even vision while swimming at night?

    • @peterharris8506

D Leal yes, lights mess with fish habits and way of live, light are bad bad for fish.

You shouldn’t leave these lights on all night. You’ll also want to leave some areas of the ponds dark so the fish have a choice. You’ll see they prefer the lights. If anything the lights attract bugs and the fish get a late evening snack.

Btw..we bought only 7 fish from Petco ..& 1 died in the 1st week. All the fish are doing great! All 30 of them!!! Yes, babies galore..lol I thought they weren't supposed to sell the fish if the y could still produce. We are not mad, but I hope they are not like rabbits..lol Ya know? Do you know how many times one can have babies? Just curious..thanks

What about putting hanging light on top of the pond? Is it gonna give the same effect as putting it on the sides?

This doesn't look like a pond to me; it looks more like a pool with fish in it.

Jerry Velasco I imagine they would not be kept on all night. Probably only for viewing because keeping them on all night must be expensive.

Does it effect the fishes being exposed to light long term?
