    Talk about timeless videos... This is surely a great example... 11 years later, it provides the most insightful help on how to set and operate dies in a single stage press. Thank you so much for taking the time teaching us! 👍👍

    I have been reloading for 15 years. I had to force myself to watch it for the first two minutes but after that, I was locked in. This kid does the best description, ever. He is knowledgeable, organized, precise and speaks clearly and slowly enough to give it time to sink but not so much as to allow your mind to wander. Unlike almost all others he doesn’t have to keep backing up over himself (as in ‘fits & starts’ [my term]) until you have completely lost the sequence. (And NO, I’m not his Dad or his buddy. He’s just that good!

    This video is EXACTLY what I needed. I'm a new reloader. Just ordered my equipment; not even arrived yet, but I'm reading and researching like crazy so I will be ready when it arrives. This answered so many questions for me. I have to admit, when I first came across the video I said to myself: "A 25 minute video just on setting up pistol dies. You must be kidding." Like I said, this is exactly what I needed, and executed with amazing patience !!

    This video and the earlier video by Jiujitsu2000 regarding setting up rifle dies are absolutely the clearest and most detailed on the subject. These videos did not assume that I knew anything, and thus were excellent for the purpose. Highly recommended!

    JIUJITSU I know this is a really old video. I have reloaded for over 60 yrs but I like to look at videos and refresh on techniques. I have to say that this is the best video I have ever seen on pistol cartridges. The only thing I saw missing is the need to have all cases trimmed to same length. Maybe I missed it. Good on you.

    Dear Lord I came across this video completely by accident. I fully remember asking other channels what’s the deal between the 3 die sets and the 4 die sets. And you would think that is a very easy question to answer but nope. I similar couldn’t get a straight answer welp now I know 3 die sets are for single stage press and 4 die are for progressive press. Also it makes a lot more sense to me now that I have been reloading for a few years now.

    • @mohammedcohen
      @mohammedcohen 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      ...actually you can use either 3 or 4 dies sets on single stage - you're not restricted to one or the other...that 4th die - the Lee FCD allows loaders to separately crimp the case...for years I used the seater crimp die on both by Rockchucker single stage, my Lee 1000 and Dillon RL550B - I've come to like the crimp as a separate step

    A good thing to mention is case trimming if all your cases are different in over all lengths even if it a couple thousand hear and there your going to have trouble with belling all your cases then after you seat your bullets when or if you decide to crimp them your going to have issues because all the cases are different in length. You have to trim all your cases so that they are the same for consistency across all your cartridges your reloading. A lot of channels don’t explain this and you would think it would be obvious but it not to the new reloader.

    I ran into this issue recently when loading 9mm Hornady XTP hollow point rounds. Sometimes I would get a bullet that maybe was made in a different mold or something and it would seat ten or twelve thousands of an inch taller than the others. As these were going to be my latest defensive rounds I wanted them all within two thou. So I was measuring every one of them. If I had crimped during the bullet seating stage with a dual seat and crimp die It would have been difficult to seat the round deeper by that 0.010". Now it is possible to set up a bullet set and crimp die so that it only does one operation, so if you are making that "precision handgun round" with a 3 die set I would say seat the bullet ,measure, then run them all again and crimp.

  • @trevorsgaragemusings
    @trevorsgaragemusings 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Excellent advice and all spot on. 3 die vs. 4 die for me is more about the fact that I don't like the idea of applying a crimp while the bullet is still being seated.

    • @gman77gas
      @gman77gas 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      gunshooter26 true to a degree. but when you are casting from a new mold and they are suppose to be 240g and you are getting 260 to 265 g something else is wrong. Happened to me. The bullets where casting .050 too long out of a new mold. Sent it back to the manuf. at my cost and they replaced it with a new one which casts within 2g. of what it should be. Got screwed on the shipping cost sending it back. Lesson learned to check weight on ever bullet cast.

    • @gunshooter26
      @gunshooter26 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh... yea that is not good... i always thought Lee had good stuff... from what i now know their presses are good.. the dies work but i dont like them, and i guess theri bullet molds aren't very good... now i know why most experienced reloaders favor Dilion stuff.

    • @gman77gas
      @gman77gas 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      gunshooter26 This is the first problem I had with any Lee equipment. I will buy their molds and dies again because of pricing/and quality. I think they might be a bit overwhelmed with so many people getting into reloading due to ammo shortage we where and still are in. Quality control might have slipped. I am pissed they did not refund my shipping cost.
      I am no expert. I have only been doing it for 2 years now that I am retired...Powder seems to be the hardest to find local (Wisconsin).
