      I think it funny we have some video and we think we actually have a clue of the events that lead up to him shooting protestors. I mean if you just want to go off film he sucker punched a young lady caught on camera not long before these killings. To pretend you have good faith bring your AR-15 to a riot you lost. There is one reason to go to a riot with an open carry AR-15, either shoot someone, or scare someone into thinking you would shoot them.

      This is why I can't even watch this debate. This is how ppl like Cenk operate. They will apparently convincingly argue one point, but then be shown up as complete charlatans on another.
      Just because someone can win an argument does not mean they are right. I know this from personal experience, some people are just really good at arguing, especially when they refuse to give in and are willing to just make stuff up that is so outrageous that you're caught out by it.

      @Garrett Stewart He put himself in that situation, yes. They all put themselves in that situation; however, there is no situation in which you lose your right to self-defense. Also, when you carry a gun, it is your moral responsibility not to let anyone disarm you. When a person is threatening you and attacking you even when you are trying to escape, you have a right and even a responsibility to do what is necessary to prevent that person from taking your gun. Legally, it's incredibly clear-cut. Any reasonable person in that situation would feel as if they are in danger of death or grievous bodily harm, and sorry, nobody loses the right to self-defense because you don't think they are behaving how you would like for them to bechucked. Also don'tt think you have viewed all of the evidence if you think Kyle was thr one mouthing off. As a final note, your speculation about whether they may murder the kid or kick him a few times is extremely cucked. Just because you fall to the ground in a fetal position when threatened doesn't mean we all have to.

I think people like me on the Left are not arguing on the law and the outcome of the case. I have no problems with judgement - that's just a natural outcome of a wrecked system. Broader social justice questions and its relationship to self-defence, private property, inequalities and blm, yada yada - is where I find Steven's position still pretty weak (albeit less so than previous years).

    • @Wow91163
      @Wow91163 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@PlayDeadPleaseI think the point being made by a lot of people on the left is that, although he didn’t break the law, that doesn’t make what he did morally correct. I watched almost all of the trial and came away feeling like not guilty was the right verdict but felt really horrible that the law, applied correctly, led to that conclusion. Bringing that sort of firepower to a situation is excessive, he was looking for trouble, claiming he was there to do first aid… hmmm. He had no clear idea about how he was going to defend the community and just ran without a plan into a shit show. That’s a guaranteed way to get someone killed. Then once he’d killed his first victim, people tried to stop him because they thought he was fleeing after committing a murder. He did look like he could be an active shooter. Again I don’t think the law is satisfactory here… the next two people he killed are surely entitled to try and stop him if they think he’s fleeing a murder? Destiny claims he had a right to defend his community but he provided little to no evidence to suggest he had any idea how to actually do that. Rittenhouse went there with an AR-15 to protect property-what do people think that means? Lol he obviously thought he might use it (aka shoot, maim, and possibly kill someone with it) against people stealing STUFF. That’s not reasonable imo. Whether he had a right to be there I don’t dispute. It’s not illegal in most cases to cross state lines and enter another community. Now whether he had a right to have the AR-15 with him is dubious because he was 17 at the time. I think what helped his case the most was that he was running away from people before he shot the 2nd two guys. But one could argue they were trying to apprehend him thinking he murdered someone and ran off, so they could also have been attempting to defend themselves and others against who they believed to be an active shooter. The third guy who was armed with a handgun and shot by Kyle in the arm argued as much. It seems like Kyle and the people chasing him both thought each other was a threat.

    • @SquallLionhart409
      @SquallLionhart409 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@vvieites001 Rittenhouse did not use the AR to defend property. His mindset was the rifle was to protect himself, as stated on camera that night. YOU assuming Rittenhouse's thoughts does not reflect reality.
      It is INCREDIBLY niche for it to be illegal to cross state lines. It is almost ONLY a crime if you've already committed a crime.
      He had the right to have the AR with him, fairly clearly under the law in Wisconsin but also under the second amendment combined with all makes 17-45 being declared as part of the "unregulated militia" or "reserve militia".
      What proved his case was that he was running away from someone that had been violent and threatened to kill him earlier that night for the first shooting. The rest of the people that attacked him would have a quite a dubious claim of self-defense. The requirement for the use of potentially lethal force (like hitting someone in the head with a skateboard, kicking them in the face while they are on the ground or pointing a handgun) all require a reasonable fear of imminent death or grave bodily harm. Rittenhouse was running away. He was an imminent threat to no one. He was also running towards the police line. Using such force to apprehend someone running towards the police doesn't make sense.
      The biggest reason I wanted to reply was to point out each individual has their own analysis for whether or not their actions were reasonable. The fact that Rittenhouse's actions were reasonable does not mean anyone else is automatically unreasonable, nor would the reverse apply. Self-defense (with "lethal" force, force that is sufficient to be reasonably expected to cause death or grave bodily harm) requires a reasonable fear/apprehension of death or grave bodily harm. No one even needs to be right in that fear, just reasonable.
      An example of two people shooting each other in self-defense would be a person disarms an active shooter in the mall and is holding them at gunpoint. Someone else hears the shots from the active shooter and sees one person holding another at gunpoint and draws/aims their gun. The first person sees this. Regardless of who is shot between the two of them, both would be entirely justified in their use of force.

    Honestly not only did this go way better than expected but this was much more substantial than most of the political conversations Destiny engages in with other political streamers or online figures. As much as TYT gets labelled as a brainless far left echo chamber one thing they have over alot of other online political media is they actually do care about these issues enough to read up on them and genuinely stay abreast of the topics they care about.
    Also, I think this was a really good balance between being respectful and charitable while also giving pusback where needed. I would definitely like to see more debates like this and I also think this kind of debate is alot more valuable for people who see debates as autistic screaming matches or boring hyper-erudite nitpicking.

    I really do think Kenosha is a clear example of the importance of early and hard police intervention into riots. There's no reason why there should have been fires there in the first place or massive destruction of property and if the police had curbed this violence, then members of the community would not have felt the need to stand up to it themselves. This was 100% a government mess up and so many people argue about Rittenhouse. When members of a community feel like their community is not being protected, they will naturally go protect it; it's the job of the police to keep order as the intermediary for the community.

    • @tommysuave4802
      @tommysuave4802 ปีที่แล้ว

      so first, 14th Amendment doesn't say "shall not be infringed" it says "shall not be questioned." But secondly, and more important, the "shall not be infringed" in 2A only makes sense when you read the actual right that cannot be infringed. 2A doesn't say "the people's right to own, carry, and use firearms shall not be infringed" no matter how some people want to read it. The idea of public debt and a "debt ceiling" means something completely different now than it did in 1868 when the 14th Amendment was passed, which seems to be why it's not used now (ie, a political argument since our economy is so intertwined in the world economy). Any comparisons to 2A just don't make sense because OBVIOUSLY gun regulation is constitutional

      @JadeWave ปีที่แล้ว

      Cenk's got an interesting take, doesn't he? His argument isn't that the amendments are always set in stone. It's that Biden had enough leverage to invoke the 14th amendment (and that Biden had enough leverage to argue it's absoluteness in this setting) to raise the debt ceiling without negotiations because it would not actually get overturned. His reason for why it wouldn't get overturned is that the establishment politicians' and supreme court justices' pockets are lined with wealthy investor/donor money, so they would never make a decision that would cause direct economic ruin.
      His main point is that Biden knew he could have used it, but he didn't because he himself is for some of the fiscally-conservative proposals from McCarthy.
      When Cenk says that the wording of the 14th is crystal clear, it's to support his argument that Biden could have invoked the 14th amendment without having to seriously fear it getting overturned (because again, the establishment politicians/justices won't cause financial ruin)
