I’m gay, and you should NEVER believe people when they try to tell you that the pride flags are non-political, or even that it’s JUST about supporting LGBT people. LGBT INDIVIDUALS are non-political, but the flag is just as ideologically related as a MAGA flag. There’s a reason that the new pride flags have black/brown stripes to stand in solidarity with BLM - it’s never been about the individuality of gay people, it’s always been about signaling which side of the culture war you settle on. All you have to do is listen to what the radicals say about it. The flag isn’t about just LGBT, it’s about dismantling heteronormativity, gender binaries, capitalism, and in many instances “whiteness”. People see Pride flags on the White House and get the feeling that they’re being occupied by an invading state - and they’re more right than wrong to believe that. Once again, the hardcore LGBT activists continue making normal gay people’s lives (like me) more difficult by forcing me to disassociate from the largest cultural movement that claims to be in favor of my well-being because they repeatedly choose to make it about politics BEYOND my ability to marry and adopt children. Modern gay activism makes people hate me more than accept me, or if they do accept me, they do it assuming I’m on their side of the culture war.
The activists are screeching because LGBTQ rights are being attacked. You have more to say about the people defending your civil rights than the people attacking them. Last year it was CRT, now it’s the LGBTQ community wants to trans your kids. These stupid issues are being manufactured. Nobody cares this much about this shit. Abraham Lincoln didn't do that, why should we? * Norms/institutions aren't the ends, they're means to ends, and they require reciprocity and reliability. It can endorse whoever, and if who it does endorse is the majority the party stays in if not they get kicked out, that’s democracy, granted hanging a confederate flag would empower white supremacists which to say the least wouldn’t be ideal, although in all honesty that would be a world where this politician has already been voted in with their political beliefs known (ideally), so if it’s what the people want then… although granted this is not really considering human rights, the pride flag to the bet of my knowledge doesn’t really represent violations of human rights, a confederate flag would, a maga flag not necessarily so I think more valid to hang then a confederate, however less then a pride if you get my point. Although also I don’t necessarily agree with the flags differing meaning thing, of course I agree they do, however when the government body does it, it’s not ambiguous what they mean, you look at their policies and such and can easily discern what it is they are actually representing when they hang the flag.

i feel Destiny made a bad call with the hypothetical congressional law. passing a law that would REQUIRE government property to display the pride flag during pride month would be a really bad law.
If "Pride" flag is allowed to be in the white house, then the same should apply for the "Straight Flag", and since now the pride flag also includes brown and black to signal support for "black" and "brown" races, then there should also be allowed to be a flag for the "white" race. With the roles reversed I think it's pretty clear why this whole thing is problematic.
It's not at all problematic. Straght flag and white flag would be allowed to be hung. Pisco literally said Trump was allowed to fly a MAGA flag and he was ok with Trump having the power to do so. He would just be against Trump taking that action because it doesn't align with his value system.

Hi, Jessiah/Ruminate here. Y'all should jump in call next time this is discussed and we can try to hash it out live, I'm sure Steven will let you in. In the meantime, some quick fact checks that Destiny himself conceded:
* The political landscape isn't neutral, Republicans/the Right are heavily advantaged in the American system.
* Politics is for action, not virtue signaling, so obstinately standing on principle regardless of what the other party does is stupid. Abraham Lincoln didn't do that, why should we?
* Norms/institutions aren't the ends, they're means to ends, and they require reciprocity and reliability. When one of two parties repeatedly and flagrantly violates them, they arguably cease to exist.
I'm unapologetically partisan because one party (Democrats), despite their flaws, are better than the other party (Republicans). Destiny also agrees with that. What if there was a flag celebrating freedom of religion instead of any particular religion? Would that be ok to display? And if so, why can't a progressive just make the argument that the pride flag isn't forcing people to be LGBT, it's just saying we have the freedom to do so? Therefore not everyone is LGBT, but everyone does have the right to be LGBT, so the flag does represent all of us.

Like he's literally not even listening he's here to argue what he thinks Destiny thinks. Dude's not hearing Destiny at all
The reason Steven stated for only supporting the American flag, city/municipality, and state flag is exactly what I was thinking.
We all have something that unites us when we have different cultures, different races, different lifestyles, etc.
We are all Americans, living in ____ state in ______ city. There shouldnt be preferential statements to one subgroup of people being celebrated or favored while other groups would never even be considered to be allowed the same.
32:50 Pissco finally understands Destiny's point despite him repeating and clarifying multiple times
Actually, if you listen to the next two minutes, Pisco gets Destiny to accept that Pisco's position is perfectly valid. Destiny was just too much of a bitch to actually state his position on the flag and once again, retreated to what powers he thinks an office should have as opposed to how that power should be used, and then he went on to accuse Pisco of using language in a weird way when he was the one confusing the two to begin with.
Never would I hire this guy to represent me legally

24:00 - Just a quiet side-note that people aren't aware of. "In God We Trust" is and was always a reference to the latter verses of The Star-Spangled Banner: "And this be our motto - "In God is our trust,""
It was not a Christo-Fascist movement, or a melding of religion and state. It came just a few years following The Star-Spangled Banner becoming our official national anthem. Nationalism was big at the time, and all sorts of "Americanisms" were being added to official symbolism.
When our side does it it's ok. When the other side does it, it's playing both sides and bad. Can't take these people seriously. They don't realize the cult they align with will sell them out in an instant when it's advantageous for them to do so.

The opening is always clickbait but it's supposed to be clickbait that makes Destiny look good, but the question "How would you feel about Trump doing a maga flag (at the white house)?" that he doesn't give the answer to has an *obvious* answer. The pride flags aren't representative of a wide array of demographics and aren't definitionally partisan. Sure, because of how the republican party be it *tends* to be partisan but it isn't that way by definition. The equivalent to that would be biden printing some Dark Brandon meme poster onto a flag and hoisting it up, which as fun as that reclaimed meme is, *would* be pretty cringe.
Edit: Actually listening to some of the arguments involved, I think there is some merit to the idea of prohibiting most flags, but it's a topic to debate. I would say that the "blue line" flag comparison to the "pride flag" comparison is a lot more of a 1-to-1 same-tier. Anyone coming into the country who has an issue with that needs to understand that there is a historical precedence with those types of statements.
If we are at the point where we are criticizing the most profound vestiges of our country’s founding, then this is another instance where we fail to understand the structure(s) we are criticizing.
It’s not a statement coercing you to adopt those beliefs.

I feel like the issue is that flags are separate from people making declarations because a political figure speaking on an issue is always going to be treated as a personal matter, but a government building showing solidarity with an issue looks like the city/state/country is supporting that, even if a lot of the population disagrees.
It's easier to say, "I dont care what Biden says" versus dealing with the symbol of the presidency of your country waving a flag you find contentious.
He was voted into power by the majority, pro lgbt views are the majority held view, I’m not sure what your problem here is. And you hit it right on with the state showing support, that’s the entire point.

Also for the record pride flag and maga flag is a false equivalence. While both aren’t state or country flags that doesn’t mean they are the same. The pride flag represents real people who’s experience is backed in full by the scientific community, it is purely a political war not a scientific one, the pride flag doesn’t represent “trans-women in cis sport” which is at odds with current science, it represent “trans women exist” which is understood and agreed upon within science. MAGA just represent an ideology and political party, although to reiterate I’d still be fine with it hung up
@@kiranthomlinson3056 You accidently hit the nail on the head with the problem with flags in general in your last paragraph. What you just wrote is what you believe the flag stands for, not what the flag stands for. People think the American flag can stand for war, oppression, freedom, liberty, late-stage capitalism, etc. If someone waves a pride flag around and says, "Trans people deserve compassion" and another person waves the pride flag and says, "Trans children deserve gender affirming care", then the flag stands for both of those things equally, like it or not.
The issue with a city/state/country waving a MAGA flag is that it doesn't represent what the President thinks, it endorses what Qanon and every extreme position held by that flag, and the same thing applies to the pride flag, which is why both are equally a bad idea to be flown on government property.
@@note4note804 I don’t know if you didn’t read my first paragraph but I think all flags should be allowed to be flown.
We all know why these get approved. There is NO dissent allowed. Thats what happens when your ideology is an obsession with victimhood.
