    I feel like a really good way to confuse Nathan or Lee in a blindfold challenge is to give them a few Musicman basses of different prices and ask them to name the model and brand. There's the Stingray from Musicman, then there's the Stingray from Sterling by Musicman, which is 1/2 the price of the Stingray from Musicman, then there's the Sterling from Musicman, which is the same price as the Stingray from Musicman, then there's the Ray from Sterling by Musicman, which is 1/2 the price of the Stingray from Sterling by Musicman, and there's no way to tell the difference between any of them visually without looking at the headstock.

      It's hard to play with eyes. Until they are somebody's else' eyes. Then it's quite easy, actually.

    I also don't even play bass but I thoroughly enjoyed this bass piñata challenge. Love the way Nathan kept looking intently at the Fender in his lap even though he couldn't see a thing.

    A dingwall or any of those fanned frets would be out for things like this. I guess there is a dingwall and that series Ibanez does. I guess it would be possible.

    I just stumbled on this channel and I love it. I am totally blind and I play bass. Lee sounds really good on bass but I have to say that going through some of these bass videos and listening to Nathan play, Nathan has some awesome vibrato. He can really make that bass sing. Anyway, I love it.

    Something I find fascinating is that he says "P or a J". I would have thought I could easily tell the sound difference between the two but he is much more experienced than me. I wish I could be in the situation to see if I could tell when blindfolded.

    • @mouthmw
      @mouthmw 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd be able to tell a J from a P any day, any time. I much prefer Ps to Js lol. I found that quite weird to be honest.

    • @danadrian2752
      @danadrian2752 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      mouthmw same I was so confused when he thought the Music Man sounded like a P... two completely different pickup positions. Maybe if it was a bc Rich / Fernandez mockingbird in the bridge position but really? A MM bridge sounded like a P middle to him? And the same with Nathan not being able to tell if it was a p or j, i would think the sheer brightness would give away at least the Mexican as a J, maybe the American could be confused for a P in the middle position with the tone knob rolled slightly while blindfolded though.

    • @mouthmw
      @mouthmw 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danadrian2752 Yeah, agreed 100%. I like the guys, but that was a bit embarrasing for them to be honest. I could always tell a P, J and Ray in the mix, and especially when I'd play them. Those 3 are, IMO, the most classic bass tones of all time. How can you not recognize those tones as a bass player? I only play Ps and Rays nowadays (those are my favorites for sure), and I'd never confuse one for the other in a blind test.

    In fact this is the perfect way to choose you bass in a shop. Tell them to hand you a lot of basses in your price range en play them on your own amp and you hear which one you like the most. Later you can chose the colour.

    What about a hollow bodied Bass guitar with Opti-Pick pickup system and associated electronics so you can use Steel or Nylon guitar strings and the sounds will resonate for longer as there are no magnets to cause drag on the strings.

    My bass playing is nowhere near the standard of Nathan and Lee but I think I would be able to tell a Jazz bass and a P bass purely on the width of the neck. I have played a P Bass almost exclusively for 30+years and the odd times I played a Jazz bass I found the neck much too narrow for me. Gimme the extra acres man!
