- Today, we're going to take a look at a watch that marches to the beat of its own Chrono, the TAG Heuer 'Steve McQueen' Monaco Ref. CAW211P.FC6356.

The Heuer Monaco model associated with Steve McQueen in the movie _LeMans_ is the Calibre 11.
The TAG Heuer Monaco that Jesse Pinkman gifts to Walter White in _Breaking Bad_ is the Calibre 12 model.
They look quite similar, but are different.
The cal 12 looks a lot better IMO.
I love this watch and always look for recent vids regarding it.. I have no idea who you are but this was an excellent, honest review.. You make a great point about the timing accuracy.. No one has ever brought up that point and you make sense.. I'll check your other vids for fun and info.. Thanks!
I’ve always loved this watch.
This was the watch that got me into watches. Unfortunately when I had the cash to splash and tried one on, it felt too thick and didn't sit well on my wrist so I had to give it a pass. I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for the Monaco, but it just wasn't to be.
Give it a change after a day I love the heft en the great looks gives me a smile ❤️
I think I've seen Tom Brady also wear this watch in a few interviews.
That's a pretty cool looking watch. I don't usually get off on square pieces but that piece definitely has a sexy classic vibe about it.
The only Heuer watch I would consider owning since they added Tag. It doesn't hurt that Steve McQueen is one of the coolest people in recent history either. Good review Nick.

I've owned one for many years. Love it. Don't wear it as often as I thought I would, but I still won't get rid of it. Like Nick said, " it has flavor". Lol.
Just received a black 02 Monaco as a gift. I really like wearing it and am probably going to use it as my daily wear for the foreseeable future. Yeah, I might ruin the crystal at some point but what’s life without risk? I like it enough that I would not rule out picking up a blue caliber 11 in the future.
I love the sideways indices in the corners.
Great review, Nick. I think you're the only one who has the courage to say it: with an average finish and average movement, this watch simply is not worth the asking price. All they did was ride the McQueen hype.

Nick, do you “worry” about minor scratches on your watches, like on the clasp? Do you leave them, like wear on a knife blade, or polish them out or such?

Can you show me a shot of the height of the sapphire glass? Roughly may be 3 mm? So the steel portion is 12 mm so the total height/thickness is 15 mm?
The crystal is amazing. It is tall, but sleek. Extremely well-made.
Damn, never realised how thick they are, but I guess it makes sense being an auto chronograph. Indices look interesting also, not sure how I feel about the watch in general

You hit the nail on the head with that raised crystal. It'll be a chip magnet. When you're playing in this price range, you're also bumping up against Zenith, IWC, etc.
The crystal is sapphire; it is mineral crystals which chip. Sapphire is just below diamond on the hardness scale, really hard to damage them at all. Most watch crystals are somewhat raised. This is really no different on any of the other brands you mention here.
mrfuriouser Its hardness has more to do with scratch resistance. The hardness is what makes it susceptible to chipping.
Yes sapphire is more brittle than glass due to its hardness, but it’s actually incredibly durable in some respects. That said, if the blow is hard enough it will chip/shatter. Yet, predicting that it will be a major issue is flawed since there are *so* many on the market spanning almost a decade (using the sapphire crystal) and it’s not a known issue, and if a 6K Tag watch had an obvious deal breaking flaw like this every watch forum would be overflowing with comments dunking on it. Finally, I suppose it’s worth mentioning that aside from the “perfect” hit that would damage this watch and this watch alone, almost any blow that would chip sapphire in this way, in actual practice, would come from high speed contact with a hard substance like stone, which would majorly scratch almost any other watch crystal of any kind anyway. If it was acrylic buffing would be possible, in many cases, but most modern watches feature mineral or sappire, both of which would require a replacement, anyway.
To me, it’s kinda like saying “having big teeth must suck, if someone throws a rock at your mouth, they’re gonna get chipped.” Yet, if someone throws a rock at your mouth, you’re going to the dentist, no matter what kind of teeth you have.
Yer killing me with this one. There’s a limited edition titanium with orange accents on the hands (may have been a Porsche co-design?).....anyway, that’s my dream watch
I wish it had an integrated chronograph movement. Chronographs are already expensive to service, and add-ons are even worse. Not to mention that you don't get to see any of the chrono bits through the window. It would also help with the thickness.
The D.D. Chrono module is quite well-known by most competent watch shops and therefore not very difficult to service. In fact, the modularity allows the module to be serviced separately from the movement if necessary.

Hello Nick, I need your help. I don’t trust most of the reviewers of watches on here because they sell watches themselves. You on the other hand tell things as they are. I really like this watch but as I am a swimmer I’d like to take it with me in the sea/pool (just swimming not diving) maybe on a textile strap or something. Do you think this will be ok or an expensive mistake? I read somewhere that it is water resistant to 100m but then I read that I shouldn’t take that at face value..
You know, you probably could. But is it a great plan? Probably not.
Whenever i hear that a watch "hacks" i immediatly think of some guy plugging his his watch into a laptop and stealing data from the pentagon.

They formerly sold for $11k. These are now more affordable. It all depends on your perspective...
So, here’s a good, maybe even a great.... usually when we, in the U.K., see a product reviewed in the States, we expect the price to be similar, or even more, in £s than $s! Despite exchange rates suggesting differently, $6k often translates to £6k, or more; but here, it’s $6k translating to £4.5k! I know the reasons, I don’t need educating, but I’m just pleased to see it for once.

I find it hilarious that TAG removed their own logo from the face because they know it's anathema to some watch collectors because of how much they shit on the Heuer brand after acquiring it.
They use the Heuer branding for their iconic heritage/reissue/homage pieces that originate from the pre-merger company. So from memory that's the _Monaco Calibre 11_ , the _Autavia_ line and their Carrera line. There may be others. I think that's a good thing.

You're silly if you think any watch at $6000 is "accurate" My 2019 Omega Seamaster keeps the same time as my monaco. The seamaster is master certified and all that nonsense. Real world accuracy on mechanical watches is always user dependent, especially with how active you are and what positions you rest the watch in.
I agree I have a 2018 seamaster 300m diver and it does keep time good but it's not accurate like what these companies like to exaggerate about. That's the charm of automatics though having to wind it and get it as right as you can. You want reliability get a quartz.

I'll admit to not getting style at all - I wear jeans more often than not. This thing just not attractive to me. What are the 4 horizontal chunks of metal at 1, 5, 7, and 11 meant to do? I get it's a design or aesthetic thing?
Those are the hour indexes, placed horizontally for visual distinction at a quick glance on the square face.
I’m not keen on those hour markers, it’s like they extended them to fill the gap.

Yes, but how will this watch retain its value, especially when it's not meant to be a daily use watch? There are so many variants flooded since they brought it back. This isn't even a 'review' but a long narration... seriously no 'insights' offered. The talk about the 'lume' was ridiculous.
