Switching to the 97 in 2007/8 would have been ideal. A 90 inch racquet was never intended to hit a single backhand on clay from above your head. It's crazy he could still do it for 4 hrs. Nadal was playing with a 100 sq inch I believe in the early babolar aeropros.

i hit with the 85 every now and then for fun. when you do centre it, it's brilliant. all the control and power you could ever want. but i'm not good enough to hit the centre every time like roger is.
I like the way he explains the logic behind every racket. One thing Edberg or I could have told him long before, 95 is the sweet spot for any decent player. he didn't need to go to 97. Also, he is lucky to have Wilson make the molds for his exact requirements. The retail 90 rackets fluctuate so badly between any 2 given rackets that they need to be professionally balanced and tuned to have similar feel and they still do not feel the same.
I started playing with the proataff just like he did of Pete Samper and Roger Federer and that’s the only racket I ever use and will use when I play league matches. It makes me feel like I’m part of the same tradition as those guys when I play with that especially as I am a one-handed backhander. When Fed says he was "looking for a little bit more racquet head speed on the forehand side"... he reinforces an opinion I've had for a while. I always thought his forehand didn't have as much "pop" with the 97 than it did with the 90. The 97's beam is just too thick... maybe he should have just switched to a 95 which has a slightly thinner beam... also, Fed likely only switched to a bigger frame because of one player (Rafa) - and to improve his topspin backhand - can't help but wonder whether he would have won more of those big finals against Djokovic in the latter parts of his career had he stayed with the 90 (he had a very decent record against Djokovic with the 90). But then he wouldn't have dominated the latter parts of the rivalry with Rafa the way he did with the 97... so a bit of a catch 22...
@@WilsonRacquet Not much because an even thicker beam wouldn't suit Fed's style. Bring back a limited edition 90... that would sell out very quickly...

Now if you don't know what balance point, swing weight and twist weight are, I suggest you go on the Tennis Warehouse University page and/or watch the videos from the TH-cam channel "racquet tech".

Can confirm we had Andy hit with all of our franchise frames (Blade 98, Pro Staff 97, Ultra 100, Clash 100, Shift 99) strung and weighted to his spec, and even extended length so that he could make an informed decision. Will definitely demo the new one out to see but I think you guys should follow Roger’s idea of making the same racquet but offering different colors from year to year. Really love the new RF tennis bag. I’ll wait patiently for a sale eventually to pick one up :) I might slowly change to a vcore over time but my rf97 v11 and v13 needs a nice bag to be kept in. Keep up the great work on the collaborations with Roger! One Wilson i will also keep playing with is champs choice. That is definitely a great hybrid. Have u ever thought of having champs choice hybrid with 17g as an option as well ?
adds a line to the old racket and call it a day
Somehow i couldnt sign up for the wilson rf giveaway😢
I play with pro staff v13 but if they release the RF97 with better maneuverability and somehow perform faster strokes I definitely buy it 🤩
Boy do we have a treat for you ⏲
That could be RF98 Aero Speed. Haha
Federer plays Wilson because of Stefan and Pete. He has a one hand backhand because of Stefan and Pete.
Why he didnt play with pro staff 6.0 95sq ?
federer might come back for senior tour? plzzzzzzz
So either there was a small tweak we never noticed or he is acting... .
The new racquet has a 23mm beam (actually it’s something like 23-24-22). I understand thing evolve but 23mm is too much a departure from the beloved tour 90. I understand this is Fed’s heritage but I’ll happily play with the 6.1 95 or 97S instead if I want something stiff or with the blade 98 for a softer feel.
Fantastic😎💪🏆
what was the new racquet!?
8/8 ...
Roger birthday 🎉
Rafa, Broke, Back, Roger. 4 words I am not expecting to hear together in this video.🤣
🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐
tldr: they made a lighter, bigger recreational racuqet and had Roger endorse it to make it look more "pro staff"
Nike actually let him have his RF logo. I’m sure it came with a price
u got a graphite racket with a new paint. with cost even more now cause rf logo. prob 300 usd
Those rackets he's using, they look like 97's with vintage paint job. Been playing with my 90´s for over a decade and I can recognize the smaller frame... This one seems bigger
Can confirm as I strung them myself we had an 85" with all gut, a 90" with gut/alu rough, and a 97" with gut/alu rough 🙌
@@WilsonRacquet I can see it now. But hey! when you think about it, a vintage recolor with a bigger frame sounds awesome
@@WilsonRacquet What tension did you string each of them at?
what does the 97 mean exactly?
Square inch head size. The area of the strings of the racquet. He started with 85in (small) and went up to 97in (bigger area size)
@@TheMrSacred i think im 100 then
@@Chris90. nice! I’ve mainly only played with 98,97, and 100in. Anything below 97 for me is harder to hit the sweet spot and I hit the frame more often
RF98...Open string Pattern...
98, 16x9, 320g, not a pro staff. The racquet is called RF01.
@@SSJBen Lol gut went to 98...Line..we need exhibition RF98 vs Aero98
Please buy the new outcoming one. Thank you.
All this racket better be preamble to Federer in some form of tennis play...
😍😍🎾
even though i like federer style of play, i can't play with wilson racquet..i wish i could but i'm more to dunlop to head racquet.
Add 15g of lead tape to your blade 98 16x19 and you will be ok.
Man wtf I just paid $600 on eBay for a v13 rf97 and u keep making more racquets dammit? Just take all my money damn u Wilson and Roger
No box beam, no buy
Fix your quality control issues and stop making all your racquets in China. Until that happens, I'll be looking at Yonex and Angell.
I hope people vote this comment up
Maybe fix your stroke so you don't need to blame it on the racket? 😊
@@coltonzhou387 Because you don't know what you're talking about and what is actually the problem. I'll explain it to you. When you're a serious player and you have several of the same racquet because you want to sometimes test a few different strings, you want every racquet to have the same weight and balance so they all feel and play the same. Now if you don't know what balance point, swing weight and twist weight are, I suggest you go on the Tennis Warehouse University page and/or watch the videos from the TH-cam channel "racquet tech".
Lovely video but then we have the load of crap they just came out with of Andy Roddick selecting the Shift as his racquet of choice. Really? What a lucky coincidence.
Sorry to be a hater, this video is really nice tho.
OMG Nooo, do you think Roger will endorse shift now? I didn't think about it but it makes sense. Are they going to call it Shift RF or RF 99?
@@dmitryt9286 is a new lineup called RF01 is not the shift, its actually more like a blade
Can confirm we had Andy hit with all of our franchise frames (Blade 98, Pro Staff 97, Ultra 100, Clash 100, Shift 99) strung and weighted to his spec, and even extended length so that he could make an informed decision. We definitely did not want to force feed him his racket selection, and he wouldn't have wanted us to as well!
@@WilsonRacquet well hot damn that’s pretty cool. I’ll be picking up a new RF racquet when they drop btw:) thanks Wilson.
Okay, so are we buying new rackets, guys? 😁🎾🔥
fedsqaush, more like the most over marketed ok tennis player to the armchair tennis crowd to sell stuff!! Fedsquash career record against nadal/djoki is a total failure only winning 33% of their GS mataches including 33% in GS Finals!! Fed skill was no match for nadal never beating him at FRENCH or same on his supposed best surface losing to Djoki 3 times in a row at finals of wimbledon!! Fed's tiltes 50% on the b circuit 250/500 level..His mental game was weak, weak backhand, didn't think when he played shows he isn't very bright..Fed is a puppet to big corp to sell running shoes!! fed got lucky in a weak era 2003-2009 when sampras/aggsi were leaving and won 15 slams..Once nadal/djoki,murray,wawrinka got going feds sqaush game faded only only won 5 slams over the next 13 yrs!!
If only he had switched to a bigger frame few years earlier…
