I like how lifetime thinks online harassment involves making entire websites about how much you hate your classmate, like it's 1998 and twitter doesn't exist.
It was common for tech savvy people to make their own websites in the 90s early 2000s For literally the most insane things you can imagine. Pre-2014 internet was simply a different place than these kids could ever imagine
It was refreshing for a little while but lately Iv been listening to old episodes and deeply missing Stav absolutely losing it when Nick strikes gold with a character
@@TronVila Stav's laughter was the only "yes and" that Nick needed. Adam is the Bit Killing Bug who can't keep anything funny going to save his life. He shoots down any riff Nick starts on TAFS.
This is my favourite side of Nick. Not the depressed nihilistic terminally ironic shit, but this guy who’s fascinated with middle brow media and can make listening to him talking about it interesting.
Same, honestly. I'm already incessantly ironic and nihilistic in my own life so I just want to see a fellow dead-insider be hilarious about his niche passions for 30 minutes lmao
Also I know, what an original take, but it's stuff like this that makes me miss stavvy. Nick and stav on one is so good. Adam has his moments but his low energy style of back and forth w nick is such a waste
I love how you can basically see the behind the scenes of cyber seduction on screen since they can’t actually pop monocles with actual porn or the main guy jerking off so it’s just an insane guy staying up slamming red bulls and watching fully clothed women. If that happened real life it would be even weirder than if he was just a porn addict
I like how they were trying to bring awareness to porn addiction but instead had him doing something that's 10x weirder. It would genuinely be less uncomfortable if he was just beating off his penis to brazzers.
Listening to Nick dispassionately describing these painfully awful Lifetime movies is perhaps the highest form of art available on the internet in 2023.
It's awesome. As a freelance comic/successful podcaster, Nick can live comfortably while basically having the same lifestyle as an unemployed guy. I'm glad that my close personal friend Nick Mullen can offer such insight from such a position.
Something about this bit that shows Nicks power level is how he knows that every one of these movies are written by strange woman with even stranger (often paranormal or lame thriller) twists like being emailed by a dead gay ghost from 1969.
18:35 Very funny that that line is a Sopranos reference, the actor who plays the old cop dad in the movie played Mickey Palmice on The Sopranos and thats one of his famous lines when he shoots Brendan in the bathtub.
I would love to sit in on the pitch meetings for some of these Lifetime movies. "So it's basically Mean Girls, but also there's a serial killer for some reason and it has nothing to do with the mean girls."
I love nick describing movies in perfect detail and then when being asked anything about it saying "who cares" like he doesn't have it mapped out with pins and string on a cork board.
Its genuinely amazing how well LMN milked woman abusing woman movies with a slight variation on "oh, you bullied me in high school, so now im going to torture you at work" every time
I can't tell if those plotlines appeal to the LMN demo because IRL they used to be the bullies, or because they were the ones who got bullied. Like, are Lifetime moms watching these movies as a vicarious fantasy of getting revenge on the bitches who bullied them in high school? Or are they watching it as a horror movie because they're afraid that the losers they bullied in high school will eventually reappear one day and get revenge on them?
No joke there are some that are worth watching for the laughs! My Daughter Was Stolen is my favorite! Family of Lies is also worth a watch as well as Seduced By My Neighbor.
Lifetime movies are a fascinating glimpse into the mind of bored, paranoid suburban housewives. Their lives are so dull and unfulfilling that they fantasize about horrible shit happening to their family just to break the monotony. It's why Lifetime movies appeal to them so much. Because deep down this is the kind of dark shit that runs through their minds on a regular basis.
"Hi Jack - bye Jack." Haha! It's a nod to Mikey's line on the Sopranos, and at the same time, Mikey's playing the father in law. So stupid, but so good

I think the old cop in "you can never go home again" is mikey palmice from the Sopranos. EDIT: and theres a line of dialogue where the stalker says "Hi jack, Bye jack!", which is the words that mikey palmice says to brendane filone before he kills him. Weird.
I'm genuinely curious how Clangers wades through the thousands of Lifetime Movies to find the one nick is talking about, source it and edit the pertinent scenes. Very impressive.

I worked at a group home where the most vicious borderline old lady bullied everyone into keeping the TV on Lifetime movie network. Interesting that Nick shares her tastes
If I didn’t know better I’d say that Lifetime doesn’t pay writers for their tv movie scripts. They shovel enough money at the network and whatever’s in the script has to be made no matter what.
I worked on a bunch of these movies. They shoot em in Vancouver, cost 1.5-3M, the execs take all of it and pay us absolute peanuts. They take 15 days to shoot and they hire a washed up movie star to work for 1 day as the judge, or scientist or whatever and put him on the cover.
