First Amazon Fresh Store Visit

- In this video we are traveling in southern California and we came across an Amazon Fresh store. This is the first Amazon Fresh store we have ever seen and been to. We decided to try it out and grab some snacks while we are on the road. Join as we check out the Produce department at #amazon #fresh

a few years back there was a stop and shop I use to go to in the early 2010's that had a similar system to This.
Originally you take a cart and then you take a scanner device. For produce you put the code into a computer and it prints a ticket out with a price based on the weight.
Not every location had this and this was at a time when self checkouts didn't require that you have 15 items or less.
They finished building one about 2 blocks from my home and then decided they needed to hold back on their expansion. They have the brand new space up for lease now. Was really looking forward to using Amazon fresh especially for things we might have ran out of during dinner time.
They are cool stores, but I have only been in one and this was it. Haven't seen one since!

First time there today. I walked in and saw the gate and walked out. The employee thought I needed help. I told her no thanks I’ll go somewhere else.

it was an experience.. Think about the introvert that wants to shop by themselves and in peace. This store gave that. Employees were still stalking shelves, helping customers and working the store. Just no cashiers.

This would save a lot of time at super busy times like the day before thanksgiving or other food based holidays. All thats needed is that the produce have a barcode so you can scan it instead of putting in that number. Also, you need to go to the grocery store sometimes because other people picking out my produce just doesn't cut it for me. Its never what I want.
Nina, good point, sometimes during the holidays this could be easier!! I agree I love to pick up my produce and smell it... LOL - Also the barcode idea is way better than having to go weigh it and type the plu code in.

So they basically moved self-checkout to the cart. It looked way better in the commercial before the store opened.

the two amazon fresh stores i've been to are always empty. It seems they're losing a ton of money at this point.
Yea the ones I have been to are already shutdown. They were empty inside as well
This is like self service or full service gas stations. I still prefer having a professional cashier run my cart. Back in the day, the good cashiers were SO fast and overall the time it takes to shop was far less than it is now in self service.
Yes, I too love seeing the art at work, I use to be a bag boy when I was a kid and if done right, you're in and out!! Literally.

Don’t work for one, from experience they will turn you into a robot! Jewel Osco’s product displays look more appealing and Caputos store has cheaper prices so the general population and save more of their money.
For the record.. I am so jealous of this shopping trip!

Good point, never thought about it like that! Could be a great store for people with Autism as well. They don't get the overload.
I think it's cool, but I don't get who this is for. Maybe in a busy city, but for the majority of America, the normal cashiers do a good job and we don't have to keep entering the values manually like this. It just seems like it's more work for the customer.
Definitely could be for a bigger city but don't see this in a rural town.
I don't like stores that make you work and bag your own things, or restaurants that make you cook or grill your own food.
Everyone has their own opinions and I can’t say that I loved it or hated it but it was something new and I enjoyed shopping and seeing the process. Thanks for the comment.

I don't like being bothered when I shop so this is perfect for me. Im not lazy so I don't mind sticking some stuff in a bag 😂

I don't know about the whole scanning cart thing. I feel like the old fashion way is still better. I will have to try it out myself one day to see. I laughed so hard at 2:41, so complicated to buy one fruit. 😆. The lamest thing I see is that you can't cart it back to your car, so you have to carry everything. I guess if your in a rush and only need a few items, the cart scanning way is a fast way.
It was a different experience, but had to at least check it out and try it. Yes trying to figure out how to be a store clerk and a shopper at the same time. The basket that I grabbed was a 15 items or less basket and you can take the carts outside. There are larger carts for the entire store and even other check out counters. We just chose the quick shopping way. Thanks for laughing with us buying fruit!!!
Makes sense that you cant leave the store with the cart. Assholes especially in america like to leave them in parking lots to get damaged and rained on which would destroy an expensive cart like these
What happens if you put something in the cart without scanning, or scan the wrong thing etc?
Once you remove the item from the cart it removes the item from your bill.
Getting ride of people
There were still people storming shelves, cleaning and helping customers. It was not a ghost store.
Does any you guys know how to sign in amazon fresh store in order to get in ?
We scanned the bar code on the cart.
Scan the barcode on the cart, but we also heard it has all changed now!
Can you get it for free if you find a way to cut or blacken the barcode, since they dont want to pay for any actual employee who can watch you?
As somebody who worked in food retail I got to say that that's Management's job. Making your employees be your own sniffer dog is a cheap way to do it especially not getting full-time or a decent wage. There's no way in hell I'm risking my life for somebody who shops lifts. They could have a gun or knife. Better for a manager to do that seeing as how they get bonus checks for keeping their employees at part time with no benefits.

No, just a new experience for shopping. Kinda like ordering online but in person.
If you want to get paid to Snoop on employees all you got to do is get hired at Safeway. Or I used to call it when I worked there slave Way. Swear that company was fake like pressed on nails.

It was definitely new to me and there were people stocking the shelves and there was customer service.
Definitely not for everyone for sure. The store was not packed. Reminded me of Walgreens traffic

It was definitely a unique store!! I have not found another since this one! Not sure how many are really out there!
