My love story with Malayalam cinema is kind of interesting 💖💖
I am a North Indian and a die hard Priyadarshan fan when he was active in Bollywood after he left Bollywood so I missed him but loved his Hindi films. Later when in 2021 he came back to Bollywood so I was about to enter college life, I applied in Symbiosis Pune, so in the interviews I was asked about my Interest which was 'Filmmaking' and Inspiration who was 'Priyadarshan' so the Symbiosis staff asked me that Do I watch Malayalam films? but I had no knowledge of it, though I left Symbiosis as I did not get admission in Mass Comm but always had a wish to see Malayalam films. During the same time phase many Malayalam films were promoted like Home or Joji and 'Home' was my first Mollywood film followed by Uyare and Minnal Murali(did not understand it much), later in 2022 I fell in love with Mollywood more with films like Hridayam, Bangalore Days, Drishyam, Oppam and became and addict to it. I later even watched the cult classics of Priyadarshan and that lead to me discover another legend Sathyan Anthikad.
I was born in 2003 but the 80s and 90s is my most favorite era of Mollywood after post 2010 era and now 2024. I am just addicted with Malayalam music and even tried cooking Malayali food and started understanding the language though unable to speak, read or write due to which some of my cousins say that I should live in Kerala and get married to a Malayali. I wish that I can work in Mollywood also because as an aspiring filmmaker, I started loving Malayalam cinema more than any language and it has an influence on my writing and vision of filmmaking. 🎥
Hope I visit Kerala soon. I even have a budding filmmaker friend from the state who offered me to work in Mollywood.🎬 🎬💖💖
Thank you for sharing your passionate story. It is refreshing to know that the newer generation is also interested in older generation cinema. I wish you all the best to pursue filmmaking and work in Mollywood as you love its culture.
As a malayalee, I'd like to think of it as the difference between a person who reads novels, vs a person who does not read novels. Any avid reader of books or stories would want to hear new stories and would be appreciative of a good story, no matter the language.
Kerala has a rich legacy of libraries, writers and scripts from decades. Which has slowly translated into movies since.
@@TheGeorgeous My biggest weakness is this that I am not a reader of fictions, though I can read non fictions.
@@tanvitripathi3997 Imagine, 20-50 movies being made a year that we watch and enjoy. Now think of 200-500 books that we could read from today and over the years with different stories , thats the universe of storytelling waiting , if you can find the curiosity.
Even I love malayalam movies from 80s and 90s

Every film industry has a golden era. Malayalam cinema is doing great now , no doubt . But the quality of Malayalam cinema frm mid 80s to early 2000 were totally in a different league . If Malayalam film had the similar reach in that era , this industry would have already become global or so called pan India .
Exactly 💯❤
True ...but some of the good movies from that time ...were remade by bollywood which is now considered as classics by them...

bro 3:29 section, the poster belongs to devasuram and not manichitratazu. Devasuram is a very good movie.
Thank you for pointing it out, I have updated it in description now.
Great indepth analysis, Waiting for your reviews of older malayalam movies.
Thank you! 🙂🙏🏽 I am stoked to start that series
Nowadays Malayalam viewers wanted to know who all are the technical part of the movies along with actors eg: directors, script writer, cinematography ,music camera man , production team etc. they play crucial role in movies. People are the great fans for directors too.
This doesn’t get talked about enough in the Hindi film industry much. The face is what sells but hopefully with the evolving audience, the technicians will get their dues too 🙂
This video hits the nail on several harsh facts. Kudos to the research done. Cheers.

A very balanced analysis highlighting both film industries, which I equate to being branches of the huge tree that is Indian Cinema. You've succintly put forth your points on craft that Malayalam actors and technicians have for the craft of cinema. I was also happy that you did not dismiss Hindi Cinema that many people automatically do these days when compared to regional stuff while highlighting the consistent period of decades that the industry churned out, which I feel is way more than all other film industries in our country.
At the same time, kudos for calling out the major problem of mainstream "Bollywood" and the celebrities that constantly cater to box office collections and mindless entertainers by taking the audience for grated due to which superlative Hindi movies get buried, whose list is huge, under the crap pile of bad work. Please also make a video on the superlative stuff of Hindi and other regional industries as well.
Thank you for your comments which have been levelheaded throughout. I will start a series with all the regional movies and some gems that have been missed under the glamor of big budget cinema in the country!
@@ReelRealReflect For Hindi as well. The general public is either completely unaware or knows very little of those gems. Also pls watch two Maithili language films 'Dhuin' and 'Gamak Ghar'.

3:26 showing the poster of devasuram, another Mohanlal classic
Yes that’s right, I have added the mistaken poster edit in the description. Thanks anyway 🙂🙏🏽
Just the truth😊
To feel a slice of Malayalam film culture you should visit yearly International Film Festival of Kerala - IIFK. You would see common man and woman, young and old from streets walking in to watch some of the best movies of that year from around the world. The bonus, you would be sitting next to some of the most famous movie makers. You won’t see the sunglass wearing glitterati anywhere.
This is a very valuable piece of information, thank you! 🙏🏽
Mammooty's New Delhi... Like God Father, I would say the base for malayalam movie's modern base...
Which started the revival of Malayalam industry which just was at that time was just depended on Shakkeela and Silk Smitha....
Mohanlals Kireedam, Dasharatham and Mammokas Bhoothakannadi, Surya Manasam. After watching Dasharatham Suniel Shetry said his fingers were acting.
Bro why I feel like you have malayalam slang in your hindi and you pronounce malayalam correctly like any other mallu.. unlike North Indian... is that a mallu guy behind the mask..
Yeah...same thoughts, he is properly prouncing Malayalam 🤔😅🤟
I don't think he is malayali. No malayali would ever mistake the Devasuram poster for Manichitrathaazhu. Both movies are cult classics.
3:28 Wrong poster! It's Devasuram.
Thank you for pointing it out, I have updated it in description!
Watch tower of turkey .....background score ... Its a must watch video❤
Still all change ❤❤
You have shown Devasuram picture instead of Manichithrathazhu
Pls watch recently released ullozhkku which is still playing in theaters. Fine acting at its best .
And one great thing is Malayalam cinema doesn't care about the skin complexion of actors.
It was Devasuram's poster, not Manichirathazhu. Hope you realized it later
Hi! Yes, it has been corrected in the description already. Thanks for pointing out though 🙏🏽😊
@@ReelRealReflect From late 1980s to late 1990s was the golden era of Malayalam cinema, which directly connects social life and common man. You can watch Mohanlal starrer - Yodha, Dasaradham (which was a bold topic that time), Bharatham, Chenkol, Spadikam, Ulladakkam, His Highness Abdulla, Aham, Rajashilpi (retelling story of Shiva and Sathi) etc. Mohanlal's Abhimanyu directed by Priyadarshan was a masterpiece. It was based on Mumbai Underworld. Another Priyadarshan movie is Vandhanam. Yodha directed by Sangeeth Shivan is also a must-watch. It's my most favourite Mohanlal film. Then Mohanlal's light hearted films like Manu Uncle, Gandharvam, Harikrishnans, Butterflies etc. I have not mentioned films which Priyadarshan has remade to Hindi. Otherwise the list would have been long. Mammoooty's CBI series, Suresh Gopi's Commissioner, Pathram etc are a few more. Both these superstars have also done wonderful movies in the 1990s. Yet Mohanlal scores more. Jayaram's debut film Aparan is a masterpiece. His Melepparambil Aanveedu is a light hearted comedy. He also owns a list of comedy films.
Can popular cinema raise social consciousness? Malayalam cinema did that during 80s, along side meaningful entertainment. Unfortunately, you had to live in kerala to witness the flow. But some of those films are available online these days.
I commed you on your Malayalam pronunciation 🎉

Early 2000s were a bad time for Malayalam cinema. With crass and mass scale movie that the likes of Dileep and Mohanlal wanted to churn. Thankfully sanity was restored.

@@ReelRealReflect I am a Malayalee by the way. One point I would like you to understand abt Mallu films are they were having golden age films like 60,70,80 and 90. Then the early 2000s began to make crappy un-needed films that single Handedly ruined Malayalam films credibility with Movie goers. Until the age of New Gen Malayalam cinema started. Special mention starts with Salt N Pepper in 2011. I was personally there when the film was released in Kerala theaters and went with friends to watch it. Still my fondest memories. Since that film Malayalam film makers began to experiment especially young movie makers.
@akashsuresh1369 I see, good to know that. And yes I am aware of the dormant era, guess it makes us appreciate the new gen more so now, so glad they brought their flair back! And thank you for the recommendation, I will definitely give Salt N Pepper a watch!
Watch Mohan Lal's Kireedam, Spadikam and Narasimhan..same story... different manarism ..
I shall! Thank you for the recommendation 🙂🙏🏽
You didnt mention Film Festivals conducted by govt like IIFK where world cinema is showcased and discussions are held
Also you have missed a legendary director KG George
Do you live out of india?
I do, for now. I will do a little introduction video about myself in the coming months 🙂
The main reason for bollywoods failure is the johars... Chopra... etc
Malayalam and Bengali movies were always classic since start of cinema. OTT and covid brought the small malayalam industry to masses. Let's not bash Bollywood it was the audience that made them what they are. Over the years Bollywood might change.

Malayalam filmmakers also make movies for money and what not its just that fewmalayalam movies are greater than so called other industry , and seems like youtubers has taken mission to make malayalam industry famous , presenting them as underdog and making money in tandem , overpraising is now a big problem
Hi! Thanks for your comment. I would highly suggest to watch the video fully. I’ve been careful with my words and I have implied “not just for money”. Also, I have not portrayed Malayalam cinema as an underdog, I have given equal dues to Bollywood but pointed out where “mainstream” Bollywood lacks and we as an audience.

Why gatekeep others choices, you only watch good popular cinema from south, more than 95% movies there are equally trash, mollywood had no bigg hit film in the last 3-years, like how bollywood had continous blockbusters last year, this year is for mollywood. You know what Vijay, Kamal, Rajini, Suriya, vikram are as bigg as Mohanlal, mammothy in kerala, infact all the cringe commercial movies of vijay and rajini make more money than a Mohanlal and Mammothys big films.
Absolutely true on the other industries being very much similar to Bollywood. I can cover the same in the future but since Bollywood/Hindi audience is bigger I had to compare the best with it
Says the person who thinks Box office collection = Quality. Most of the malayalam movies that hasn't been a "Hit" are still better stand alone movies than most Hits from other industries and places. Its virtually impossible for 3.5 Cr people of which maybe 1.5Cr can afford to go to the theater, to ensure 2-3 films every week makes 50-70Cr at the box office.
In Kerala, the audience until very recently have stayed away from hero worship, terming it as cringe and unreasonable, which is why you assume Tamil and Telugu superstars have a huge following when the OGs don't.
Cringe movies get cringe viewers, Be it Mamooty's Turbo, Mohanlal's Aaratt, Rajni's Jailer or Vijay's Beast. Surely the cringe lovers would prefer the more cringy balaiyaa, rajni movies than the cringe lite Malayalam movies ?
@@TheGeorgeous just beacause you liked a particular niche film, does not make any superior to other who likes watching cringe.
@@personalaccount5498 It does. Its easy to make cringe, its difficult to make intelligent films. Superiority is in the writing not marketing
@@TheGeorgeous great then, enjoy feeling superior.
As a malayalee i feel its unfair on bashing the movie Animal.
I really liked the movie!!
Not every movie needs to be grounded or talking about social issues!!!
There should be raw, unapolegitic and dark movies too.
Every humans are flawed and have a darker side, which comes out at the moment of vulnerability.
People say it depicted violence!!
Like it doesn't happen in our society!!
Nevertheless i am glad ANIMAL didn't fall to negative marketing campaign by yhe liberals, and was a blockbuster.
I am looking forward for its sequel
What u said is correct
True. I am a believer in freedom of creative expression, and not against Animal the movie. I have made a video on the cinematic and problematic(specific to our country’s situation) standpoint why I thought it wasn’t up to the mark.
Prophet 😂
Truth
Malayalam is the worst industry in case of budget
Budget is not always evrything. Being worst in budget makes Malayalam industry churn out better movies.
Liked Animal❤
Liked Aavesham❤
If Animal was made by malyalam director with malyalam actor you'd be riding it
Highly debatable. The video is not about how “all Malayalam movies” are good, the video is about consistency of Malayalam cinema. Many Malayalam films are not at par with its golden era films but the numbers are low as compared to Hindi film industry. Animal would still be an average film if made by Malayalam filmmakers.
Using animal in thumbnail , u need that film for publicity and constantly mock that film and constantly praise Malayalam movie that is the trend, people doing stereotyping and making money go all ahead , reason is the unemployment and lack of skill development
Hi! I have never mocked Animal, I have made a video about it too. There’s very few good aspects of the movie but other main substantial cinematic elements lack thought.
Brother please don't feel offended. Bollywood has a lot of good movies, it's just that Animal is in no way one of them. We can do better as a nation.
