07:41 - This week's recommendation
Did you know that the story of Laapataa Ladies has some resemblance to one 1999 film?
Ananth Mahadevan is a National Award winner(won best screenplay Mee Sindhutai Sapkal) actor and screenwriter. He made 'Ghoonghat Ke Pat Khol' in the year 1999, the plot of which shows 2 newly wed brides getting exchanged, but the story progression and ending is completely different than Laapataa Ladies.
Biplab Goswami, the writer of Laapataa Ladies swears that he did not plagiarize Ananth Mahadevan's film and that his story is original, which he wrote 10 years ago.
I believe this situation is an apt example of the idiom "Great minds think alike", that it is possible but not probable to happen. Anyway, we know from Fight Club that "Everything is a copy of a copy of a copy", so rather why not focus on the good?

    He just not only fired back on Javed Akhtar. He also criticised Kiran Rao and told her that she should criticise Aamir Khan (who’s her ex-husband btw) and see what kind of misogynistic songs he did in the 90s even though the song was only a single song you could find his entire filmography (ladki hai ya chaddi hai, khambe jaisi khadi hai) and Aamir himself called the lyrics out that too years ago and that is the reason, Vanga caught it.

    bro Animal was trending in Netflix for more 10 weeks straight, after 3cr footfalls in theaters. You know what, a film called "Raja the great" garnered more TRP than Baahubali2 in telugu, what does this say?? Jaane Jan has more viewership than Jawan. You are trying to push your agenda.

    • @ReelRealReflect
      @ReelRealReflect 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi! When one movie’s viewership is more than the other on OTT, it clearly means more people are watching one content than the other one(at least online). I am not talking about the business made. Jaane Jaan has a far better and gripping plot(content) than Jawaan. Not saying Jawaan is a bad film, I’m saying Jaane Jaan is a better written film. Regarding Laapataa Ladies, one thing to consider is that this film with its new cast did better than a movie with a superstar(Ranbir) in it, and a director(SRV) who had a hype created from his first movie. The only factor that makes this possible has to be its story? There is no agenda here, it is clear as day that a better story/content/writing is doing better online. I have mentioned the reason why Laapataa Ladies didn’t earn big on box office later in the video. I believe a good litmus test for better content movies is OTT viewership, even more than movie theaters. Again, Animal is not a bad film but Laapataa Ladies has much more to offer than Animal, and a story very well written which in my books makes it better.

    • @personalaccount5498
      @personalaccount5498 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@ReelRealReflect Animal was trending in top 10 on Netflix until very last week, and Laapata Ladies did only 0.2M more than Animal in its first month. OTT viewership does not signify anything, it only tells people have watched the mvie untill a certain threshold value 5 min or whatever. Many exclusive Adam Sandler films on netflix were highest watched in the first weekend, first week, am sure it will get more viewership than Interstellar, Inception if parallely released, so what now they have now better writting?? They have got viewership because there is no exclusivity involved. Films like Animal, Jawan, Sultan, Baahubali have reached their maximum viewership potential while playing in theaters so there will obvioulsy be decline in OTT viewership, and also the OTT viewership depends on the genre of the film. All these popular films are better enjoyed in theater with crowds around. Laapata ladies had aamir backing, which is itself very huge, and also the film had some controversy around which would have helped it to get some clicks and also on its own merit. Fighter is the highest watched than both Laapata Ladies and Animal, so fighter is a great film now?? There are too amy gatekeepers today than the original film makers.

    You can't compare any other movie's with Animal bcz it's a unique piece of art. Complex characters, intriguing emotions, wildness , art of violences, out of the world imagination of director Vanga and his exuberant way of presentation. Any directors can make movies like Laapata Ladies and there were many movies like that too. But no one can make a movie like ' Animal ' even Director Sandeep Vanga can't do it again...

  • @drvmlk
    @drvmlk 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Sorry but it was really surprising to watch your videos as our views coincided. But calling Lapataa Ladies “not preachy” is the hypocrisy because when I watched it even though I liked the story the movie was too preachy and tried to address too many issues at the same time but missing on the issues men face, not a single word about that. There can’t be equality if you portray all the ladies as the epitome of righteousness and men as demons.

    • @anirudhmenon425
      @anirudhmenon425 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      But.... they didn't portray all men as demons

    • @ReelRealReflect
      @ReelRealReflect 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi! I believe the definition of preachy could be a bit subjective. However, the film doesn’t lose its storyline to forcefully send a message which is why it doesn’t feel preachy. I can see why it might look preachy to one, especially Manju Maai’s character but it is only because Phool’s character is naive. Sure there are men’s issues which may have not been addressed in the film but the film is about one gender’s social issues, and to show another gender’s issues along with it would have made the film lose its plot. Usually, we see male protagonists in a film and women characters are just existing. Similarly, in Laapataa Ladies the men are simply existing because it is a female protagonists story.

    • @drvmlk
      @drvmlk 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@ReelRealReflect sorry just seeing the comment notification now… those films where women just exist are the masala or commercial movies with almost no subject matter. How can you only talk about the social issues or injustices done to women only. They didn’t have to go too far there were men in the movie. At least a side plot would have been sufficient. And yes, Manju Mai was preachy as anything, demonising her husband and kids and maybe that is the reason she was left alone. Now, I get it there are women who face such harsh of relationships but there are also people who could not put up with anyone in early phase of their lives and then blame everyone else for their state. And what I meant by my statement, let’s take Masaan for example. It was a perfect low budget movie showing all aspects of society and it can be brutal without seeing your gender. One cannot paint everything in one shade and then call it the solemn truth of society. PS:- People must watch a lot of true crime to get an idea that nothing is gender specific. Stop putting genders (male or female) on pedestals.

    • @ReelRealReflect
      @ReelRealReflect วันที่ผ่านมา

      While issues not pertaining any particular gender exist, Laapataa Ladies chooses to talk specifically on issues faced by women. Also, important to note that it is set in early 2000s. Having said that, what is going on in Indian society today, I believe the day is not too far when we see a male-issue film which I believe is much needed because a man’s inner and external struggles need to be addressed as well.

    I don't think Ranbir is a good actor to that degree to be listed with great actors. He always has the same blank expression. But people say its great acting because he has sad eyes. In fact I personally liked his acting in some roles. I don't say he is a bad actor but not as great as people makes him. Upon watching the Animal teaser, there's something that didn't sit well with me - Ranbir Kapoor's dialogue delivery. Although, I loved the teaser overall. I anticipate that some people may disagree with my viewpoint, but I believe that Ranbir Kapoor's voice modulation leaves room for improvenment. There is lack of variation and sometimes the dialogues falls flat which makes me disconnect with the characters over all. (Even Rk sounds the same on every film. The animal teaser the scene with Rashmika sounds same like Bunny is. Delivering it. Same tone. No change. The argument scene during Papas birthday from Animal is a good example. He has this tendency to just rant on his dialogues in a monotonous voice with barely any gaps in between sentences when he's attempting to showcase anger). He's especially weak with voice modulation work, Here are,a few clips. He sounds the same, gazes the same, emotes the same. th-cam.com/users/shorts0tuvdwB6UFI?si=9oK9fVwffhfki9sB th-cam.com/users/shortsMqUrhHSjXgo?si=5Tld7WiBBwsNbTAD th-cam.com/users/shortscwAwyIlvgSo?si=3FofVoxxzTHFVr7R th-cam.com/users/shortsRvyNWudCZaE?si=Wwx5J3lgY6KGfWzf He isn't also versatile to that degree.. His almost roles and character development in them are man child roles.. Raj kumar rao, Vicky and even Ranvir are more versatile than him. But overall I agree with your video. Your channel is good!

    • @ReelRealReflect
      @ReelRealReflect 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you for your comment! I concur with you on this. Ranbir is a good actor but I believe he is certainly not in the league of legendary actors(not yet) for the same reasons you mentioned. There is a performance element to his craft, one can spot the “acting” in his acting. Maybe this stems from my propensity towards liking natural actors. However, he is courageous with his roles which is testimony to the fact that he is a capable actor, and has honed his skills. If he doesn’t tangle himself in his “next superstar” status, there is potential we see one of the greatest actors in the making.

    While a good video to objectively highlight the contributions of the golden triumvirate without rattling their hardcore fan clubs, I feel you could have also mentioned, in Aamir's case, the offbeat movies he did like Raakh, 1947:Earth, Dhobi Ghat as well along with Peepli Live, where he gave brilliant performances in all of them. This proves that he, in comparison to the other two, always put his craft and artistry ahead of his stardom and gave movies for the betterment of the society. What's more, he did so by blurring the lines between commercial and offbeat cinema in order to appeal to masses and classes in equal measure that made his movies both critical and commercial successes. This is why only he could create box office records on a regular basis and subsequently break them with new projects.

      Thank you, I may have slightly infuriated Salman Khan’s fan club though. Salman has some strong suits but falls short compared to the other two. And of course, I didn’t include the movies explicitly but have provided B-rolls for mentions. And thank you for pointing out 1947 Earth, I didn’t know it existed. True! Aamir has struck the right balance and it is commendable to be able to do that. Also, he is the only superstar that I feel doesn’t shy away from being vulnerable in his interviews either, he cries when he has to and not worry about his “image”, which for me is above all else as well!

      @@ReelRealReflect That's one of Aamir's traits that I love about him is that he never hesitates from showing his vulnerable side. On a different topic, based on the greatest actors of Indian Cinema that were discussed in your 'Who is the Best Actor in India' video, I would also request to make videos on many others in Hindi Cinema right from the earliest days like K.L Saigal, Prithviraj Kapoor, Mazhar Khan (dubbed as India's Paul Muni), Ashok Kumar, Motilal, Dilip Kumar (pioneer of method acting), Balraj Sahni, Sanjeev Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan (had to mention his name as fans from other industries don't see him as such in comparison to Mohanlal, Mammootty, and Kamal Hassan but one look at his entire body of work tells a different story), Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri, Pankaj Kapur, among others. Also make on on the best actresses as well whenever you get time. From Bengali Cinema, there are many names that deserve to be on any list of 'Best Indian Actors' like Chhabi Biswas, Pahari Sanyal, Soumitra Chatterjee, Uttam Kumar, among others that are sadly relegated to the background due to the constant infighting between Bollywood and South fan bases hogging all the limelight that has been going on since time immemorial, not helped by the fact that the media doesn't hesitate in adding fuel to the fire.

    I became his fan after watching 3 idiots. But what really felt like a punch in gut was his 2022 movie Lal Singh chadda. I had watched the original forest gump many times so it felt insulting to see him just flat out copy the entire original movie scene by scene. Nothing really clicked.
