Dang!!!! That bumper is killer!!!! I used a deadbolt bumper that I pushed all the way in and removed the D-ring mounts. It is tight and clears all the tires I have including the Little guys. Great episode. I want that bumper!!!🤘🤘🤘
I was going to use that but it doesn’t clear the tires with the extended wheelbase.

I’ve done the lwb mod on my scx24 “stretchbolt” deadbolt. Also used the JL bumper mount to clear the servo, and trimmed a bunch off of the front of the body

thats good because i ordered the C10 Jeep metal links, instead of the deadbolt ones, plus now i have proper ones on the way all i need is the driveshaft to do this mod
I’m really enjoying this series. That was great having a stock version to give us a great visual of how the upgrades have impacted the stance. I’m glad to see the use of the 3D printer as another tool to leverage in this series.

Longer wheelbase has a lot of advantages, yes there are downsides as well but the advantages to climbing far outweigh the down sides.
@@HarleyDesignsInc That depends on how tight the course you are running on is. It will high-side over peaks a lot more easily too.
I would have chosen smaller tires if I was concerned about steep climbs. Weighting the front axle would have the same effect as lengthening without giving away turn radius and frame clearance. It would also help the front tires drag the rear over obstacles more effectively. I have a video of one of my rigs climbing at 72 degrees on my channel. It happened on video so it happened. 🙂 I know how to make them climb. ; )
The rig you built would struggle on the types of courses I normally run on. Out in wide-open nature long and wide works. On tight courses it doesn't do as well.
I will post a climb on my channel that a long wheelbase rig has no chance on. I have tried. I have 3 LWB rigs of different designs. They can't do it.

Thanks for the new bumper option I have had lots of clearance issues on my JLU and have stuck with the short wheelbase on my deadbolt in order to eliminate any problems. Now I can clear my 3D printed 4 link set up.

As important as the center of gravity discussion is, sprung & unsprung weight would of been a nice add-in xP Took me awhile to realize that's what I was fighting on my Wraith

How can having too much weight down bottom be an issue? I got brass axles and full brass wheels on my rig and was wondering if I was kicking myself in the same process of doing so. I have almost no weight up top and a crap ton down low
Loving this series. Any chance there could be a 1/10 budget series? Say start with an off the shelf RTR honcho or trx4 and go from there.

To be fair to the spirit of the budget build, your price for the printed bumper should have been the price to print at Shapeways.
But he's giving it away for free so anyone following along it should be free.

Being that it’s just a bumper and printers are becoming more common tools in peoples homes/school/jobs, I was fine with this approach.

You could want to install the longer rear links on your JK to stretch the Wheelbase.
If it was me I would call that servo horn like 5.99 🤷♂️

true but to low you have no ground clearance is where the balance come into play.
Just lowering the truck isn’t the biggest factor to lowering COG, but most people to run things too tall.
@@HarleyDesignsInc that is true if your truck not wide eough, wide truck fixs that. but it all have you want to run
I wouldn’t consider width to be the compensating counterpoint to ride height personally. Just like in the (scale) comp scene, low trucks, low weight and narrow to make it thru gates.
Rule you do best you can.surely there rule for wide crawler
For every day use I prefer the wide method it fixes all that and if I need the narrow one just buy a different truck and build one your way

I haven’t changed the servo yet, I was just talking about a flimsy servo horn I found. Replacement servo will be coming soon.

Giant tires, longer wheelbase, increased track width. It sounds more like you are just trying to make it a larger scale rc lmao.
Trying to make it as large as this scale will support. Go too large and you’ll exceed the geometry, such as when people put way too wide of a widener on it.
Fill my rc tires with water. Check ✅
Could’ve saved the wheelbase mod for the free week and done 4 link at the same time 😬

I dont get why everyone makes them bigger. why not just get a 1/16 scale or something.
Because this is a platform with options parts available and a decent drivetrain. In stock form the performance just feels you like which has always been my gripe with small scale. With adjusting size, weight, balance, etc you can make it feel so much more planted. But you can’t extend them so far that you completely destroy the geometry.
@@HarleyDesignsInc i might rty to extend my betty front endI think with my smaller tires It might get high sided more often. If you like this platform take a look at the atlas 6x6. it has potential at the price point if someone would come out with steel gears for it. hopefully soon
