The Perlenbacher Patronus comes out of the Privatbrauerei Eichbaum in Germany (Mannhiem to be exact), and the Rheinbacher Weissbier is from the Brasserie de Saint-Omer in France.

The Rheinbacher was my introduction to wheat beer. Unfortunately, I cannot drink much of any wheat beer as it disagrees with me. However, I do regularly have 1 in the fridge each week. Never tried the Lidl. Maybe the lack of creaminess could help me. I'll grab one tomorrow & find out

I’ve drank a tonne of Weissbeer in Bavaria, Austria & Switzerland. The Rheinbacher is 80 - 90 % as good as anything I’ve had to be honest. Simon calls it mouthfeel, I call it “body”. Cheers.

Mouthfeel is a dreadful term that I first came across when I lived in NZ. A poor substitute for body.

Patronus all the way. It's definitely brewed in Germany but I'm not sure about Reinbacher. Anyway, after your review I will pop for some beer ammo to Aldi. Cheers.

Beeradvocate community reviews has Patronus 81 and Rheinbacher 78. I agree tbh. Patronus is better and tastes more like a Weissbier should do imo even if it's not 100% of one like Frank. Also agree that it was better at 5.5% but still not bad at 5%

I have really been getting into Weissbiers recently really enjoying them. Nice drinking them cold out of the fridge along with some cider perfect during the summer months.

I've really got into my Weisbier of late all thanks to this channel Simon. I love a keg of Franziskanor in my perfect draft but when I can't afford it I opt for the bottles of Rhinebacher from Aldi 🍻🍻🍻

I buy Rheinbacher when F’skaner and Erdinger aren’t on offer. Will stop by a Majestic and check it out tomorrow. I work in Germany for about 10 days every couple of years. Last time out we were partial to the Benediktiner.

First bottle of Patronus tonight. Massive fan of Erdinger. Patronus is only 1.29 on offer at the moment so get yourself down to Lidl Si. First impressions.. definitely contender for Erdinger. Not to complex, just typical weissbeir characteristics and enjoyment.

The real good weissbeer taste comes from the yeist they use. That yeist is pretty expensive for brewers because it comes from the weihenstephaner university. Thets why the cheaper versions mostly dont have that banana, clove kind of taste to it.

Having bought these several times, they are definitely notthe same beer.
I like the Festbier Weissebier that Lidl sell every so often. 2 years ago it was only 99p but £1.49 last time they sold it in my local store.

Weihenstephaner is another Premium one I pick up from Sainsbury’s. I think it’s now over £2 a bottle but personally prefer quality over price.

£2.60 a bottle. does't stop me though. Can pick up Paulaner for £3.00 in Morrisons.. my recent go to has been a 12 pack of Hacker Pschor (or however you spell) for £25

For the price can’t fault Patronus. Only recently went up to £1.39 from £1.29 too. Always pick up a few when I’m in Lidl. Thanks for the tip on Majestic Simon 🙏

Minimum pricing per unit in Scotland, UKNI and Ireland makes stronger beers more expensive. Effectively it pushes the retail price above the expected price when VAT and Excise Duty is taken into account.

Franziskaner works out cheaper if you get them on 4 for 3 in Asda as Aldi weissbier is now £1.69 a bottle by ours.

I'd never had a weissbier till a couple of months ago then saw some of your videos raving about paulaners offerings so, bought 1 of the Munich hell and 1 of the weissbier in M&S. I was expecting to prefer the helles but was blown away with their weissbier, needless to say I dropped into the local Majestic for a box of their weissbier a couple of days later!

Good price at Majestic for Paulaner. A previous comment mentioned that it's £2.80 in a local M&S. It's £2.50 in my local M&S. I haven't got a Lidl near me but there is an Aldi, so I regularly buy Rheinbacher.

tried both of these, to me they are both like Erdinger, watery not much flavour and thin bodied. not a patch on paulaner, franki, maisels, weihenstephaner, schneider, hacker pschorr to name a few

    • @deepfriedmango
      @deepfriedmango ปีที่แล้ว

Nothing quite as bad as Erdinger 😂
Granted the likes of Patronus I'd agree seems a bit watery, however is a good one to go onto after a couple of Franks ie once your taste buds start to get a bit drunk.

I regularly buy Patronas from Lidl now, for the price it's a good wheat beer.
I compared it to the more expensive and well known Erdinger.
Sorry, but the Erdinger tasted just like a descent lager to me, slightly hazy, not much flavour and certainly no aroma.
    Patronas wins for me.

In Germany they both are in plastic bottles... 👎 Have different names (Aldi Karlskrone, Lidl Perlenbacher). Both are crap..The best cheap Weizen is Turmbräu (in a can from Penny)...Maybe we are a little bit spoiled by our other great Weißbier (Weihenstephan, Schneider, Franziskaner,...) In Netto there is Franziskaner (20 bottles/box) € 11,99. So I only can laugh about UK beer-prices....
